WEATHER - FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL - TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: QANTAS CLUB H'CAP - 2200M.

Due to transport difficulties, S. Katsidis replaced B. Stewart as the rider of PARTY KING.

CONAIR was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and indicated that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg. As a consequence, CONAIR was declared a late scratching at 12.18 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on CONAIR. were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

On the first turn, MANZEAL had to be steadied off the heels of THIS MANSHOOD. As a consequence, MANZEAL commenced to overrace, got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance.

G. Colless, rider of GENE'S INTEREST, pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 300m., resulting in PARTY KING being taken out on to HYDROMASTER, which as a consequence had to be checked. Due to G. Colless's indisposition following a fall in the final event, the inquiry was held over to a later date.

Passing the 150m., SPIRIT OF WESTBURY, which had been held up for clear running for some distance, shifted out around the heels of GENE'S INTEREST, resulting in PARTY KING being inconvenienced when taken out on to HYDROMASTER. D. Beadman, rider of SPIRIT OF WESTBURY, was urged to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 200m., MIDNIGHT DEAL had to be checked off the heels of PADDY MALONEY, which shifted out slightly whilst tiring.

Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported GENE'S INTEREST had been galloped on on the off hind leg.

RACE 2: QUEENSLAND DAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1300M.

As the start was effected, AMAIZCAY jumped away very awkwardly and made contact with TWIN FORTUNE. As a consequence of this contact, AMAIZCAY became unbalanced and continued to veer in despite the efforts of its rider, G. Boss, resulting in severe crowding to TWIN FORTUNE, BLUE CELESTE and ENA'S TREASURE.

JUST AWE tended to overrace on the first turn as its rider B. Prebble attempted to steady that colt. JUST AWE continued to race awkwardly at the heels of ARTIQUE throughout the middle stages.

Approaching the 200m., YORUBA was momentarily cramped for room between ARTIQUE, which shifted out slightly, and SENSACHE, which also shifted in whilst tiring.
B. Prebble, in company of stable foreman Mr N. Thomson, were questioned regarding the tactics adopted on JUST AWE today. B. Prebble stated he had instructions to go forward with the option of leading or taking a trailing position. He indicated after beginning only fairly, JUST AWE showed the anticipated speed, however with the sustained pace coming from the outside runners, he elected to steady and take up a position just behind the leaders. He concluded by saying that this was to the detriment of JUST AWE'S chances as the colt pulled extremely hard. N. Thomson confirmed B. Prebble was provided with a degree of flexibility in his instructions. The explanation of both parties was accepted.

When questioned, C. Munce stated that whilst SENSACHE had a good run during the event, the colt pulled up as if it would benefit from today's race. A veterinary examination of SENSACHE, which tired in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: DANE RIPPER H'CAP - 1300M.

TRISTRAM'S SHOW and REAL FORCE were slow to begin.

TRANSFER and BLUEBIRD HILL were obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

CHINA AMBER shifted out on the home turn and made contact with CITICHY.

Over the concluding stages, ASPEN VALLEY had to be steadied when cramped for room between TRANSFER and CITICHY, both of which shifted ground slightly.

RACE 4: SIR EDWARD WILLIAMS H'CAP - 1500M.

No racing incidents.

RACE 5: MULTIPLEX QTC SIRES' PRODUCE STAKES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1400M.

On jumping away, AWESOME GLADIATOR and FLYING ANA were crowded for room between TRAIL OF GOLD and PELT.

At the 300m., EVANDER was momentarily inconvenienced by JUANMO, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Leaving the 300m., TRAIL OF GOLD had to be checked when disappointed for a run to the inside of STAR OF ST. COVET.

An inquiry into an incident near the 200m. where JUANMO made contact with ALLEZ FRANCE was adjourned because of G. Colless's indisposition.

QUAYS was held up for clear running until passing the 200m..

RACE 6: THE QANTAX QUEENSLAND OAKS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 2400M.

SOUTH SEA PEARL jumped away awkwardly.

An inquiry into an incident which occurred at the winning post on the first occasion where BRAVISA and SCALE THE HEIGHTS were crowded was adjourned to a later date to allow J. Byrne, rider of BRAVISA, to give evidence. J. Byrne was unavailable due to injuries incurred in the final event.

Approaching the 1600m., BRAVISA had to be restrained off LUXURY RIDE. ARRABEEA, which was following, also had to be restrained as a consequence.

As S. Seamer, rider of ETHEREAL, attempted to shift out around the heels of DANDIFY at the 800m., DANASIA improved quickly to that horse's outside, which resulted in ETHEREAL being taken back onto the heels of DANDIFY. As a consequence ETHEREAL had to be restrained and lost ground.

LOVELORN, which commenced to lose ground at the 600m., was further inconvenienced when cramped for room between TEMPEST MORN and ALTIERO, which shifted in slightly.

TEMPEST MORN was held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until nearing the 100m..

Approaching the 200m., GONE shifted in off the heels of DANDIFY, resulting in FETES GALANTES being hampered.

C. Munce, rider ALTIERO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 100m. he allowed his mount to shift in under pressure at a stage when not clear of BRAVE TATTLER, resulting in BRAVE TATTLER being checked when tightened on to TEMPEST MORN. C. Munce was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, with the suspension to take effect immediately and expire at midnight, 15 June. Furthermore, stewards imposed a fined of $1500.

A veterinary examination of LOVELORN, which compounded badly over the concluding stages, revealed the filly to have a slower than normal recovery rate.

Stewards intend to interview C. Munce (ALTIERO) and D. Beasley (TEMPEST MORN) regarding their respective mounts bumping just prior to the winning post.

RACE 7: QANTAS QTC CUP - 1200M.

CEFFYL blundered at the start.

AGGRAVATION jumped away awkwardly and made contact with UMPIRE.

MEAN WINE also began awkwardly.

K. McEvoy, rider of ATEATES, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in soon after leaving the 800m., resulting in RUTHLESS TYCOON being taken in on to SHOW A HEART, resulting in SHOW A HEART being tightened for room and losing its position. K. McEvoy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 7 June, and to expire at midnight, 16 June 2001.

When questioned, M. Cahill stated that SHOW A HEART was most disappointing on face value. He advised that the colt raced in a timid fashion when travelling inside runners in the middle stages. He added that the colt gave him the impression that its chances might be enhanced by the use of blinkers. Subsequently, an application by trainer B. N. Miller to use blinkers on SHOW A HEART at its next race start was approved. A subsequent veterinary examination of SHOW A HEART failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 8: P.J. O'SHEA STAKES - 2400

Evidence was taken from a number of riders regarding an incident near the 500m. where GO FLASH GO broke down. At this stage, GO FLASH GO fractured its near foreleg and fell. As a consequence of GO FLASH GO falling, CITRA'S PRINCE was also brought down, dislodging J. Byrne. G. Colless was dislodged from YAMMER as that horse attempted to hurdle the fallen CITRA'S PRNCE.In this incident, ROYAL TREEN had to be severely checked and shift out abruptly to avoid the fallen horses, resulting in CITY HABIT being severely checked and taken wider on the track. ABLE MASTER, AIR WAR, KARASI and ANCIENT CITY were also severely hampered. The inquiry was adjourned to allow stewards to take further evidence from D. Beasley, J. Byrne and G. Colless. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that GO FLASH GO was euthanased on humane grounds, and CITRA'S PRINCE also sustained an injury to the off shoulder.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
