WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD/FAST AFTER R. 1 RAIL - OUT 2.5M.. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: FROM QTC MEETING, 9.11.01
Stewards today concluded a number of inquiries from the abovementioned meeting. The said inquiries were adjourned because of the unavailability of riders J. Byrne and G. Colless later in the day due to injuries incurred in falls in race 8, the P. J. O'Shea Stakes.
Race 1: QANTAS CLUB H'CAP - Jockey G. Colless was found guilty of a charge of careless riding which was imposed upon him on the day in question in relation to his ride of GENE'S INTEREST. It was found that near the 300m. he allowed his mount to shift out, resulting in PARTY KING being taken out on to HYDROMASTER, which was checked. In relation to this charge, G. Colless was suspended for 8 meetings.
Race 5: MULTIPLEX QTC SIRES' PRODUCE STAKES - G. Colless was also suspended for a further period of 8 meetings for directing his mount, JUANMO out around the heels of DUTCH HARRY at the 200m., resulting in his mount bumping with ALLEZ FRANCE, causing that horse to be severely hampered when taken out on to the heels of COUNTER AGENT. In all the circumstances, stewards ruled that G. Colless serve 14 meetings, with the penalty to commence immediately and to expire at midnight, Wednesday, 4 July 2001.
Race 6: QANTAS QUEENSLAND OAKS - An inquiry was conducted into an incident which occurred at the winning post on the first occasion where BRAVISA and SCALE THE HEIGHTS were crowded for room. Subsequently, K. McEvoy, rider of GO SANDY was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at this stage of the event, tightening both BRAVISA and SCALE THE HEIGHTS.
Race 8: P.J. O'SHEA STAKES - Subsequent to this event on the day in question, evidence was taken from a number of riders in relation the breakdown of GO FLASH GO near the 500m.. In this incident, CITRA'S PRINCE (J. Byrne) was brought down, and YAMMER, whilst attempting to hurdle the fallen CITRA'S PRINCE, dislodged G. Colless. A number of runners were severely hampered as detailed in the stewards' report of 2 June. Jockey D. Beasley, rider of GO FLASH GO, and D. Beadman, rider of YIPPYIO, were questioned at the Eagle Farm meeting on Saturday, 9 June. Further evidence was today taken from J. Byrne, rider of CITRA'S PRINCE and G. Colless, rider of YAMMER Acting on all the available evidence before the stewards, including their own observations and the available video footage, stewards were satisfied that GO FLASH GO broke down in the near foreleg approaching the 500m. and fell, and that such incident was not caused by any other horse or rider. Stewards also found that there was insufficient evidence to attribute the breakdown of GO FLASH GO to the 600-metre crossing.
RACE 1: CASINO REWARDS H'CAP - 1300M.
Stewards permitted the late withdrawal of BEAR RAID at 8 a.m. on veterinary advice.
TOUGH SWORD blundered as the start was effected.
FINAL FORECAST was held up and unable to obtain clear running until after passing the 200m.
A veterinary examination of TOUGH SWORD, which weakened quickly over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following the running of this event, the track rating was upgraded to fast.
RACE 2: CAFÉ 21 H'CAP - 1500M.
As S. Galloway failed to arrive on course, stewards authorized apprentice N. Tomizawa to ride SO RADICAL in the absence of any other senior rider being available. S. Galloway was fined $200.
SHAREEF ROCKET, PACIFIC CONNECTION and SINOWIN were all slow to begin.
DOFF and PRINCE STARLIGHT were both obliged to race wide during the event.
FIRE BRIGHT was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
RACE 3: BLACK JACKS H'CAP - 1812M.
SAILOR'S LARK, which was kicked by another runner in the off rib area whilst parading behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
LITTLE KATERI and RENAZZO were both slow to begin.
Approaching the 200m., ZEALY LAD was impeded inside the tiring DEERHILL.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DEERHILL today, S. Galloway stated he was provided with instructions which left him with the option of leading or racing on the pace. He added that the horse, which was racing in blinkers today, tended to overrace, and as a consequence he allowed DEERHILL to stride forward and assume a position outside the early leader GHETTO. He stated that GHETTO, when racing to his inside, also tended to overrace which made his task more difficult in assuming the lead. S. Galloway indicated that after he found lead, DEERHILL dropped the bit and raced well within himself, however the horse failed to respond when asked for an effort and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages.
RACE 4: CLUB CONRAD SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
PLAY MISTRESS, which incurred injuries whilst being floated to the course, was declared a late scratching at 12.45 p.m. on veterinary advice.
ZEE tended to overrace on the first turn and had to be restrained off the heels of BLUEBIRD HILL.
BLUEBIRD HILL also tended to race ungenerously in the middle stages and was inclined to lay out.
Passing the 800m., TREVISCAY made contact with LOOK FOR A STAR when attempting to shift out from behind the heels of ZEPPLIN, which steadied the pace after assuming the lead.
A pre and post-race swab sample was taken from the 4th placegetter, ZEPPLIN.
RACE 5: SIR DOUBLAS WADLEY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
As G. O'Sullivan was indisposed, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of COTTON BRAE.
MAGGIE'S LOVE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
On jumping away, MISS JAKEO had to be checked and GABRIELLE'S GIRL was tightened for room between RACING FRIENDS and WHAM BAM, which was taken out by RAPID WOMAN.
Passing the 200m., SYDANEE was reluctant to take a narrow run to the inside of CERTAIN BLITZ.
S. Seamer, rider of GAY ADVENTURE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that nearing the 50m. he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure, making contact with RAPID WOMAN, causing that horse to be hampered and taken outwards and contributing to interference suffered by PRINCESS CLANG.
S. Katsidis, rider of BRIDAL HILL, was also found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that at the same stage, despite his mount's inclination to shift in, he continued to ride vigorously with the whip and made insufficient effort to straighten BRIDAL HILL, resulting in PRINCESS CLANG being taken in a number of horses towards the heels of RAPID WOMAN and thereby contributing to interference suffered by PRINCESS CLANG. Both S. Seamer and S. Katsidis were suspended for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 June and to expire at midnight, 28 June 2001.
RACE 6: CONRAD INTERNATIONAL LIGHTNING - 1000M.
GREAT CRUSADER jumped away awkwardly and made contact with ALPINE EXPRESS.
ARAGONCE was disappointed for a run between GREAT CRUSADER and GOLDEN EYE at the 100m..
MAJOR VICTORY was also held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the event.
RACE 7: THE T.J. SMITH SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1600M.
As C. Brown was to be overweight, A. Spiteri was substituted as the rider of QUAYS. C. Brown was fined the sum of $250.
The start was delayed due to REGENT STREET requiring farrier attention.
At the 1100m., TELLSON shifted out abruptly off the heels of EVANDER, which shifted in when not quite clear. Whilst it was established that TELLSON had exacerbated the incident by being inclined to overrace, L. Cassidy, rider of TELLSON, was nonetheless severely reprimanded and reminded of his responsibilities to provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
At the same stage, REGENT STREET had to be checked off the heels of QUAYS, which in turn was steadied off TRAIL OF GOLD.
When TRAIL OF GOLD shifted out around the heels of JAR JAR BINKS near the 650m., EVANDER was taken out into a 4 wide position. TELLSON was forced wider in turn.
REGENT STREET was badly held up over the final 100m..
CYBERNETIC had to be steadied approaching the finish line to avoid the heels of STAR OF ST. COVET, which commenced to weaken.
BARAWIN hung in under pressure in the straight, which hindered its rider G. Boss from being able to fully test that filly.
RACE 8: TREASUREY CASINO BRISBANE CUP - 3200M.
Acting on a report from the club's veterinary surgeon that ABLE MASTER was sore in the off fore leg, stewards ordered the withdrawal of that gelding at 3.05 p.m. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ABLE MASTER on course were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
As no other rider was available who could ride nearer the horse's allocated weight, S. Katsidis was permitted to declare 1 kg overweight on VITRINITE. S. Katsidis was fined the sum of $250.
Approaching the home turn, APACHE KING was held up and unable to improve.
At the 450m., KARASI and CITI HABIT came into contact for some distance as CITI HABIT attempted to shift out from behind SILENT IMPACT to improve.
Upon straightening, KARASI had to be steadied when SILENT IMPACT shifted out.
J. Taylor, rider of the winner, STAR COVET, was severely reprimanded for using his whip unnecessarily on a horse that was clearly winning over the final 200m..
A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, CITI HABIT.
RACE 9: MARCO POLO H'CAP - 1600M.
BRAVE PRINCE had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between KENCONCARNE, which shifted in.
In the early stages of the straight, KENCONCARNE and BANFF CONNECTION raced tight for some distance as KENCONCARNE attempted to shift out from behind BRITISH BUSKA.
Approaching the 50m., CHEVERNY was inclined to lay in onto the running rail, which obliged B. York to stop riding with the whip.
Near the 50m., TREASURE HE KWILA and ROULETTE both had to be checked when cramped for room by BRITISH BUSKA, which after being inclined to shift in and away from KENCONCARNE, was obliged to shift in slightly to avoid the heels of that horse. Whilst stewards were satisfied that the manners of BRITISH BUSKA had contributed significantly to the incident, and that his own mount KENCONCARNE was inclined to lay in under pressure, D. Oliver was nonetheless reprimanded for failing to make what the stewards deemed to be sufficient effort to straighten his mount.
M. Cahill was questioned regarding his ride on MR. SMUGG in the straight. He stated that when tested with the whip, MR SMUGG commenced to lay in and for this reason he elected to ride the horse hands and heels. Stewards accepted the explanation.
A veterinary examination of SPACE AGE, which compounded badly over the concluding stages, revealed that gelding to be sore in the near hind leg. D. Beadman, rider of SPACE AGE, advised that the gelding's action changed noticeably after making the 600m. crossing.
ALL WINNERS, ZEPPLIN AND CITI HABIT WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
