QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.19.9.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr G. Ireland, Mr R. Sanders, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr J. Williamson (cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: BLUSH D'OR H'CAP - 1500M.

Approaching the first turn, STAGEWISE commenced to overrace, and when being checked off the heels of EUROTEC rounding the first turn, shifted out, taking PODINSKI wider on the track.

PODINSKI, which was obliged to race wide in the middle stages, compounded after passing the 600m.. A veterinary examination of PODINSKI subsequent to the race failed to reveal any abnormality.

Near the 300m., EUROTEC shifted out and brushed KING LEO.



RACE 2: BENGALLA LAD H'CAP - 1200M.

DIOCLES and TRAMBURY'S TRUST were slow to begin.

SIDEKICK jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of BONBARA.

CORD and IN COBARGO were tightened for room between SIDEKICK and OUT CRUISING, which shifted inwards abruptly shortly after the start.

CORD hung out making the first turn and continued to do so for some distance. A warning was issued to the connections of CORD.

When being restrained to take a trail passing the 1000m., SIDEKICK began to overrace and raced ungenerously for some distance.

Near the 800m., EAST HENDRED commenced to pull hard and had to be eased away from the heels of IN COBARGO.

Leaving the 500m., EBONY HALO was unbalanced momentarily when racing in restricted room between EAST HENDRED and TRAMBURY'S TRUST.


RACE 3: MONTEZUMA H'CAP - 2132M.

FEEL THE BLUES jumped awkwardly.

K. Smith reported that in the middle stages BOOEYHACKER commenced to pull hard when racing outside WINGS AWAY, which had been steadied by its rider.

DRAGONVILLE shifted ground appreciably over the final 200m. of the race, causing CARCORY to be inconvenienced. M. Dracos, rider of DRAGONVILLE, was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when shifting ground.

DRAGONVILLE cast its near fore and off hind shoe in running.

An inquiry was held into the poor performance of LEGAL EXPRESS, which compounded and finished some distance behind the main body of the field. M. Rodd explained that the horse travelled well in the early stages, however near the 800m. the horse commenced to race under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer C. Shirley confirmed her disappointment with the horse's performance as the gelding had worked well in preparation for today's race. She was also at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to advise stewards of anything that may come to her attention in the days following the race that may have had some bearing on the horse's disappointing run. A veterinary examination subsequent to the race revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. A further examination when LEGAL EXPRESS cooled down indicated it to be lame in the off hind leg.


RACE 4: TOP UNIT H'CAP - 1400M.

No racing incidents.


RACE 5: EL TWICE H'CAP - 1200M.

SENJ lost ground at the start as a result of being tightened between SURR STYLE and NEARLY A DANE, which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

AVASEUS jumped awkwardly.

CRYSTAL HILL was caught wide rounding the first turn and raced wide for the majority of the race.

After leaving the 800m., SURR STYLE commenced to overrace and for some distance had to be eased away from the heels of BLANCHEFLEUR.

NOR NOVA made the crossing awkwardly.

AVASEUS jumped the crossing.

NOR NOVA had to be steadied off the heels of BURGEON, which shifted in rounding the home turn.


RACE 6: POSITANO H'CAP - 1600M.

A veterinary examination was ordered on HANCOCK when connections informed stewards that the horse had become fractious whilst travelling to the racecourse. The horse was passed suitable to race.

No race incidents.



RACE 7: GUNSYND H'CAP - 1200M.

Apprentice D. Wheeler was fined $50 for returning to scale in excess .5 kilogram over his declared riding weight.

Rounding the first turn, CIRCUMVENT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STORMY BLUE, which shifted in.

CANADIAN TIME had a tendency to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages, and as a result of shifting ground, CAPANNELLE was inconvenienced near the 100m.. M. Rodd, rider of CANADIAN TIME, was cautioned.


RACE 8: SIR SHAH H'CAP - 1400M.

After leaving the 1200m., SPRING CREEK commenced to overrace and rounding the first turn had a tendency to hang out. SPRING CREEK continued to hang out and near the 650m. had to be eased away from the heels of MAIZIERE due to its waywardness.

In the early stages of the straight, ANSONIA was held up for clear running.

CHAR AZTEK shifted out approaching the 200m., causing SPRING CREEK, which was inclined to lay in, having to be checked. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Bennett, rider of CHAR AZTEK, was reprimanded and advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts on a true course.

Leaving the 200m., TRIP TO TIARO was inclined to shift out under pressure, which resulted in MAIZIERE having to be checked momentarily when racing to the inside of JUST CASSIDY, which was taken in slightly by LADY TRICE. G. Birney, rider of TRIP TO TIARO, was severely reprimanded.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
