QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT 25 SEPTEMBER 2001

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr W. Birch, Mr W. Flynn,

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 8.5M.

GENERAL: From BTC meeting - Race 6 - 22.9.01

M. Cahill, rider of BAILS, was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.

RACE 1: ROUGH HABIT BAR H'CAP - 1200M.

OUR LAA DEE DA was a late scratching at 12.45 p.m. when the horse injured itself in the wash bay area. Following the late withdrawal of OUR LAA DEE DA, all monies invested on that horse were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that OUR LAA DEE DA had sustained a laceration and bruising to both stifles.

DEFINITE DECISION shifted out at the start, hampering ROSIE O'ROSIE, YOUTHFUL LODGER and EXPELLED.

After being briefly tightened approaching the first turn, DEFINITE DECISION was inclined to lay out.

ROSIE O' ROSIE made the crossing at the 600m. awkwardly, causing AWESOME SHADOW, which was trailing, to be checked.

LORKITA, which lost ground in the early stages of the race and had difficulty maintaining its position with the main body of the field, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon following the race and found to be shin sore in both forelegs.

M. Cahill reported that KATE CELESTE did not settle in the early stages, and when ROSIE O'ROSIE made the 600m. crossing awkwardly, KATE CELESTE was forced to race wide around that turn. M. Cahill also indicated that his mount did not finish the race off as expected under its big weight.

RACE 2: STRADBROKE BAR H'CAP - 1200M.

SUMMIT CITY, which was fractious in the barriers, was slowly away.

DIAMOND IN DUBAI and PROPELLOR made contact on jumping away.

CORD was inclined to get its head up rounding the first turn.

When the pace eased near the 700m., KARAMAZOU had to be steadied off the heels of STRONG MEDICINE. DIAMOND IN DUBAI, which was trailing, also had to be eased away from the heels of KARAMAZOU. At the same stage, PROPELLOR had to be eased off the heels of BOBBY CEE.

CORD hung out in the middle stages of the race and made the home turn awkwardly and brushed HOLLY'S SHADOW.

Near the 200m., KARAMAZOU shifted in abruptly, causing BOBBY CEE to be checked. S. Katsidis, rider of KARAMAZOU, stated that the horse was feeling the pressure of the race and shifted in, despite his efforts. The connections of KARAMAZOU indicated that they may experiment with blinkers on the gelding. A veterinary examination of KARAMAZOU following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: ASCOT BAR H'CAP - 2154M.

SEMI JEWEL jumped away awkwardly.

OUR GANG shifted out and made contact with STORM DANCER at the start.

When yielding ground near the 200m., DOCK shifted out, making contact with OUR GANG, forcing that gelding out on to STORM DANCER.

A veterinary examination of SEMI JEWEL, which raced ungenerously, revealed that the horse had sustained a laceration to its mouth.

RACE 4: MODE LOUNGE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer A. Bailey was fined $25 for presenting LONG WAY TO RUN to the saddling paddock without its crossover nose band.

THOMSON was caught 3 wide for the major portion of the race.

COMIC KING jumped away awkwardly and made contact with REDWAY.

HALVAH blundered badly on jumping away.

MYSTERIOUS MISS was inclined to race ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the first turn, PARIS PIKE, which was overracing, ran up on to the heels of REDWAY, and when checked, shifted out and brushed HALVAH.

RACE 5: GUINEAS ROM H'CAP - 1500M.

Trainer B. Dodson was fined $50 for presenting PARMA HEIGHTS late on course.

FOLLOW THE MAESTRO was inclined to lay out making the home turn.

TINKER'S FANCY and PARMA HEIGHTS made contact on jumping away. Shortly after the start, TINKER'S FANCY shifted in when unbalanced, taking PARMA HEIGHTS in on to PADDINGTON TIME and INVOICE, causing both horses to be severely checked. At the same stage, KIMBRIKI SON, which was racing inside of INVOICE, shifted out, contributing to this incident. Stewards acknowledged that whilst TIMKER'S FANCY was unbalanced, G. Duffy, rider of TINKER'S FANCY, was nonetheless severely reprimanded and reminded of his obligations to make greater efforts to prevent his mounts shifting ground.

D. Hayse, rider of INVOICE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that in the vicinity of the 300m. he directed his mount out when not clear of KIMBRIKI SON, taking that horse's running and resulting in KIMBRIKI SON having to be checked.. D. Hayse was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 September, and to expire at midnight, 12 October 2001.

RACE 6: QTC FUNCTIONS & CATERING H'CAP - 1000M.

Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to view the film to ascertain if whether BAY POET had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from N. Evans, rider of BAY POET, and Mr A. Schuck, who was present at the start, it was established that BAY POET had been fractious in the barriers and N. Evans had sought the assistance of an attendant to straighten BAY POET'S head. As the start was effected, BAY POET lunged forward and then reared up, despite the efforts of the attendant to control the horse, and further, as a result of the horse's behaviour, N. Evans was almost dislodged and the attendant unbalanced attempting to control the horse. After taking into account the gelding's behaviour in the stalls, stewards were not satisfied that the horse had been denied the opportunity of a fair start. Trainer Mrs M. Cooney, who was not present at the meeting, will be interviewed concerning the gelding's behaviour at a later date.

Near the finish line, PRINCE STARLIGHT had to be momentarily eased away from the heels of CATAINER

RACE 7: MEMBERS' BAR H'CAP - 1600M.

On two occasions shortly after the start, OBLIGE shifted out, making contact with GRISMA.

It was noted that CULTURED PEARL was held up for clear running after entering the straight, and near the 200m. angled for a run between POTESTAS and OBLIGE, however after being disappointed for that run when POTESTAS shifted out, he was obliged to shift back to the inside in an effort to obtain clear running.

Near the 100m., EN BATEAU shifted out abruptly, forcing CASTLEREAGH MAGIC out on to POTESTAS and OBIGE. Close to the finish line, EN BATEAU again shifted out under pressure.

.OBLIGE was caught 3 wide for the major portion of the race.

RACE 8: STRAWBERRY ROAD RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1300M.

GUMTREE jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, tightening the running of VIBRATIONS.

Rounding the first turn, DOFF commenced to pull hard and was inclined to overrace. When questioned concerning the horse racing near the lead today as compared to its previous starts, when the horse raced back in the field, W. Moore, rider of DOFF, explained that the connections had experimented with blinkers at its previous start and felt that this had assisted in the horse racing closer today than previously. He further explained that the horse can be slowly away from the barriers and connections had attached blinkers in an effort to have DOFF race keener. He also indicated that despite racing closer, the horse did not finish the race off as expected and was disappointing.

PRINCE RATAVA was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

ALL WINNERS AND PARMA HEIGHTS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
