QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.20.2.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr R. Sanders, Mr W. Birch, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 10M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As Z. Purton and G. Colless were indisposed, the following riding substitutions were permitted.

Z. PURTON: Race 2. RIGHTO - C. Spry; Race 3. EUROTEC - K. Yoshida; Race 4. IN SINGAPORE - P. Hammersley; Race 6. NORTHERN HEIGHTS - C. Spry; Race 7. BLESSED TYCOON - K. Yoshida; Race 9. POWER AND EGO - K. Yoshida.

G. COLLESS: Race 3. STEM THE TIDE - C. Whitely; Race 6. OPAL RAINBOW - A. Pattillo; Race 7. CELESTIAL SPRINTER - J. Stanley; Race 8. MALBERRY - C. Whitely.

RACE 1: MAYBE LAD H'CAP - 1200M.

BALEZE shifted in on jumping away and made contact with CHILLI CRAB.

After receiving a bump from WORTHY REWARD shortly after the start, BALEZE shifted in, resulting in CHILLI CRAB having to be checked.

S. Shield, rider of CAPRILL, was found guilty of careless riding, in that near the 1100m. he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SWAK, resulting in that horse being taken in on to BALEZE, causing that horse to be checked. S. Shield was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24 February and to expire at midnight, 9 March 2002.


RACE 2: REGAL ADVENTURE H'CAP - 1400M.

TALK ABOIUT REAL pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

RIGHTO was forced to race wide in the middle stages.

S. Galloway was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PENTAGRAM. S. Galloway stated that approaching the home turn he was unable to hold his position when the eventual winner TOPPA shifted out, and from that point, the gelding continued to lose ground. He was of the opinion something was amiss with PENTAGRAM in the straight and he eased the gelding over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of PENTAGRAM following the event failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.


RACE 3: FAUSTINA H'CAP - 1400M.

IVORY TATTOO jumped awkwardly and shifted in and brushed DERARTU.

After leaving the 1200m., LADY KATH shifted out from behind the heels of the leader, AVALANCHE OF ROSES, and made contact with EUROTEC.
RACE 4: HEROIC ISLE H'CAP - 1500M.

VERSAILLES jumped outwards at the start and made contact with IN SINGAPORE.

M. Pelling reported that NAUDERS was off the bit prior to the 1000m. which required him to urge the gelding forward sooner than he had expected.


RACE 5: MERRY MINSTREL H'CAP - 1800M.

PEDRO'S POWER was slow to begin.

PRIME INVESTMENT pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

Passing the 1000m., BORN CHIC had to be checked to avoid the heels of PRIME INVESTMENT.


RACE 6: RAJAH H'CAP - 1300M.

NATIONAL SPIRIT, KNATMEG and OPAL RAINBOW were all slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m., when steadying off the heels of ALL IN AWE, JOYOUS shifted in, making contact with ORMOLU. GARFIELD'S GAL, which was following, shifted out abruptly from behind the heels of ORMOLU.

Shortly after entering the straight, GARFIELD'S GAL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OPAL RAINBOW, which shifted out.


RACE 7: MR. CONSISTENCY H'CAP - 1400M.

VIANGAR was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

After leaving the 400m., NED'S REVENGE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring MALTESE BEAUTY.

J. Taylor reported that after not jumping away cleanly, he rode COMMENDABLE forward, however upon reaching the lead the mare commenced to overrace and would not relax and as a result failed to finish the race off.


RACE 8: PRINCE GAUNTLET H'CAP - 1300M.

SMART CHARIOT, which got down and became cast in the barriers, was withdrawn by the stewards on veterinary advice at 4.48 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on SMART CHARIOT were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer L. Ross was advised that SMART CHARIOT would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.


BRAVE COURT jumped awkwardly.

Prior to the 1000m., SHARMEEN STAR was hampered by CIRCUMVENT, which shifted in. S. Galloway, rider of CIRCUMVENT, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care.

After leaving the 1000m., SHARMEEN STAR had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CIRCUMVENT, which was taken in by MUKANIC. K. Bell, rider of MUKANIC, was also cautioned.

Near the 800m., CHIEF DAHAR had to be restrained off the heels of SHARMEEN STAR, and in doing so forced TWISTED wider on the track.

K. Bell reported that MUKANIC hung out making the home turn.




ALL WINNERS AND PENTAGRAM WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
