WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – OUT 8.5M
GENERAL: As S. Katsidis was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

RACE 1: GAY ICARUS H'CAP – 1000M
INTERSTORM and THIS SHOOD CLICK were both slow to jump.
Near the 700m INTERSTORM brushed the running rail.
INTERSTORM was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
When shifting out to improve near the 350m, BON MATRICE accidentally struck the heels of INTERSTORM and blundered.
Near the finishing line THIS SHOOD CLICK had to be steadied off the heels of KID DE LAGO which was taken in slightly by KOOL KALI.
RACE 2: BORE HEAD H'CAP – 1200M
Trainer G. Ryan was fined $25 for presenting SHE'S A KEEPER with pacifiers.
LILY'S CONFOY, which was fractious and reared in the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who ordered its withdrawal at 12.51 p.m. when it was found to have sustained lacerations to the inside of the knee and cannon bone on the near foreleg. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on LILY'S CONFOY were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets applicable. The connections of LILY'S CONFOY will be advised that a warning has been placed against the filly in relation to its barrier manners.
SILK QUILT and BUSTER BALLOON were slow to jump.
SPICY BELLE and PANAGIA came together at the start.
On the first turn SHE'S A KEEPER had to be steadied off the heels of SMARTCHAT which shifted in when not fully clear. K. Bell, the rider of SMARTCHAT, was reminded of his obligation to be fully clear when crossing.
ULTRA SWING was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
B. Albuino reported that making the first turn SHE'S A KEEPER was inclined to race a little fiercely and hung out. He added that the horse also hung out under pressure in the run to the finish.
Apprentice Z. Purton reported that due to BUSTER BALLOON being inclined to hang in he had difficulty fully testing it over the latter stages of the race.
Trainer G. Moon reported that MOON PIXIE cast its off hind plate in running.
RACE 3: VO ROGUE H'CAP – 1400M
BLESSED TYCOON and MACROSTRIKE were both slow to jump.
RACE 4: LORD DUDLEY H'CAP – 1200M
RYTHMIC PHANTOM, which was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg, was declared a late scratching at 12.42 p.m.
MILLER BOY and BR'ISLAND BOY both jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
After travelling a short distance PROTECTIVE CUSTODY was buffeted between FREE RADICAL and RED PILL, and near the first turn FREE RADICAL shifted away from the heels of PLAYING causing PROTECTIVE CUSTODY to be taken out on to RED PILL.
Passing the 800m STAR OF SNIPPETS commenced to race fiercely and had to be checked to avoid the heels of MAXIMUS EQUUS which shifted away from the rail.
After passing the 800m MAXIMUS EQUUS continued to shift out and ran wide on the track. TEE SQUARED had to be eased to avoid the heels of MAXIMUS EQUUS when shifting out.
TEE SQUARED again had to be eased approaching the 600m when MAXIMUS EQUUS shifted back towards the rail. J. Powell, the rider of TEE SQUARED, reported that his mount shied at the crossing and shifted out taking FREE RADICAL wider on the track.
PLAYING made the crossing at the 600m awkwardly.
After leaving the 300m BR'ISLAND BOY shifted in under pressure causing EAST HENDRED to be momentarily tightened.
A veterinary examination of PLAYING subsequent to the event failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: NGAWYNI H'CAP – 1843M
Trainer H. Williams was reprimanded for failing to submit a condition form when it was ascertained that IANITIS had been treated for a minor injury. A veterinary examination was ordered of IANITIS prior to racing and a swab sample was taken from the gelding following the event.
PEDRO'S POWER was a shade slow to jump.
S. Galloway, the rider of LANVIN, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in adjacent to the 1000m when not clear of MIDSHIPMEN ALL, causing that horse to be tightened and make contact with the running rail.
CANTERBURY DOWNS was held up for clear running until after passing the 200m.
RACE 6: BONECRUSHER H'CAP – 1200M
MORUYA was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and found suitable to race.
PRESENTLY jumped outwards at the start, causing MORUYA to be checked when forced on to LE CHATEAU.
LORD HOBBITT hung out when inclined to overrace rounding the first turn.
Leaving the 700m, when LORD HOBBITT attempted to move back to a position one wide, LORD ALANNON, which had commenced to improve to the inside of that runner, had to be steadied. M. Dracos, the rider of LORD HOBBITT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RACE 7: MING DYNASTY H'CAP – 1600M
TRUE ENOUGH was slow to begin.
On jumping away, STAR OF TELESTO, ROMAN DALLIANCE, MILITARY ASSASSIN and MURRAY BRIDGE were tightened between LOOP THE LOUP and MIXADAD, both of which shifted ground. When being straightened, LOOP THE LOUP shifted out, resulting in CHAMPION OF DANES, INITIAL CHIEF, OUR CULPRIT and GOLDEN ZENA all being crowded between that horse and SEIZE THE MOMENT which shifted in.
After leaving the 800m STAR OF TELESTO brushed the running rail.
Rounding the home turn MILITARY ASSASSIN had to be eased to avoid the heels of CHAMPION OF DANES which shifted out slightly.
MIXADAD was badly held up for clear running rounding the home turn until after leaving the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of CHAMPION OF DANES failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: DULCIFY H'CAP – 1200M
As M. Pelling was stood down by the Club's medical officer, G. Baker was substituted as the rider of WOZZA BALL.
LA TRIO and SMOKEY HALO were both slow to begin.
WOZZA BALL, which was also slow to begin, lost valuable ground at the start.
When shifting out to improve on straightening, FRYINGPAN made contact with GLACIES.
SILVER EXPRESS was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Near the finishing line SALTY SAL shifted in under pressure and brushed CLOISTERED HABITS.
ALL WINNERS AND IANITIS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
