QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.13.4.02
STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr C. Clifford, Mr R. Sanders, Mr C. McLune, Ms S. Gillespie (Cadet).
WEATHER - SHOWERY/OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 6.5M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Jockey B. Albuino was fined $100 in that he accepted rides at today's meeting whilst still under suspension. It was established that the suspension B. Albuino had incurred at the Gold Coast meeting on 31 March 2002 was due to expire at midnight, 13 April 2002.
RACE 1: BAILEYS IRISH CREAM H'CAP - 1000M.
AFRICAN QUEEN and MITANNI were both slow to begin.
AFRICAN QUEEN and MITANNI bumped at the 700m..
Also near the 700m., PARALO had to be steadied off the heels of KAVANAGH, which shifted in.
After being held up for a run in the early stages of the straight, PARALO was then impeded for some distance near the 200m. between KAVANAGH and SO EQUAL when attempting to take a narrow run between those runners.
RACE 2: HANWOOD PINOT CHARDONNAY H'CAP - 1600M.
R. Morris, rider of SAILOR'S LARK, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1400m. when not clear of INITIAL CHIEF, resulting in that horse having to be restrained by its rider. NORTHERN INDIES, which was trailing, shifted in to avoid INITIAL CHIEF, resulting in STORM SCENE also being hampered. Whilst stewards accepted that he was endeavouring to avoid a minor scrimmage in advance of his mount, G. Schofield, rider of NORTHERN INDIES, was nonetheless cautioned and advised to exercise more care.
Trainer S. Dwyer reported that MISS THUNDERCAT, after having cooled down, was showing signs of soreness in the near knee. Mr Dwyer undertook to provide a veterinary clearance for MISS THUNDERCAT prior to the filly's next race start.
RACE 3: WATERFORD CRYSTAL H'CAP - 1400M.
When the pace slackened on the first turn, KUMPEL ANTON had to be severely checked off the heels of NOBLE KAAPTIVE, which also resulted in KINGCIDON, which was trailing KUMPEL ANTON, being checked.
Due to the continuing slow pace, DECORAIGH also commenced to overrace and pulled its way up inside the heels of ST. BELLE C'AIR where there was insufficient room, resulting in TALBINGO LAD being tightened on to NOBLE KAAPTIVE, which was checked at the 800m.. KUMPEL ANTON, which had continued to overrace, shifted out to avoid NOBLE KAAPTIVE, hampering COURT COBAIN and UNIQUE.
ZEE also overraced quite severely in the middle stages and as a consequence raced wide.
RACE 4: JAMESON'S IRISH WHISKEY H'CAP - 1300M.
DANCING HILL jumped inwards at the start, hampering RISING TOWER. As a consequence, RISING TOWER became unbalanced and continued to shift in for some distance after the start, crowding BILLY JARRAH.
At the 700m., as KID DE LAGO shifted in to assume the lead, that horse dropped the bit and shifted in suddenly, cramping the racing room of DANCING HILL. When M. Rodd, rider of KID DE LAGO, relieved the tightening to DANCING HILL, MAXCAY was obliged to shift out away from the heels of KID DE LAGO and thereafter raced 3 wide.
Over the final 200m., MAXCAY was inclined to lay in under pressure.
RACE 5: QUEENSLAND IRISH ASSOCIATION CUP - 1600M.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of WISHART, J. Taylor stated that approaching the 600m., the horse blundered in the going which had commenced to cut up due to showers earlier in the day. He added though that when brought to the outside in the straight on better going, WISHART did not work to the line. J. Taylor stated that the only further view he could offer was that on pulling up, WISHART had made some abnormal respiratory noises. A veterinary examination of WISHART revealed fluid sounds on the right lung. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that his findings might indicate the onset of a viral infection. Trainer P. Cox undertook to make further investigations in the coming days to ascertain the extent of WISHART'S problems. A swab sample was taken from WISHART.
RACE 6: AUSTRLIAN SELF STORAGE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
Trainer I. O'Neil was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for TOPPA by the required time.
DEUXIEME and CASSIMIR were slow to begin.
UP THE BID lost ground at the start when tightened for room between MANABOZHO and TOPPA.
TOPPA was obliged to race wide rounding the first turn.
Leaving the 1000m., NATIVE WELLS had to be restrained off the heels of MIDNIGHT FALCON. NATIVE WELLS continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.
When TOPPA assumed the lead at the 600m., HIGHLY DANGEROUS shifted out around the heels of that colt, resulting in I'M IN HEAVEN, REPRENDRE, MAGIQUE SKY and UP THE BID all being taken out abruptly.
Approaching the 300m., TOPPA shifted out under pressure, taking HIGHLY DANGEROUS out on to I'M IN HEAVEN, which resulted in all 3 horses becoming unbalanced. Subsequently, near the 200m., I'M IN HEAVEN shifted in slightly under pressure, resulting in HIGHLY DANGEROUS being hampered. A. Meritt, rider of I'M IN HEAVEN, was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient endeavours to keep his mount on a straight course.
D. Tanti, rider of DEUXIEME, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 200m..
After being held up for clear running for some distance, MANABOZHO obtained a narrow run between the tiring ROADSPY and SYDANEE nearing the 100m.. After passing the 100m., SYDANEE was taken in slightly by NATIVE WELLS, which resulted in both MANABOZHO and ROADSPY being severely crowded. Whilst stewards accepted that SYDANEE had been inclined to shift away from his mount, G. Colless, the rider of NATIVE WELLS, was nevertheless reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in.
RACE 7: GILSHENAN & LUTAN PLATE - 1200M.
COEUR DEHERE jumped away very awkwardly and made contact with HIMALAYA FALCON.
MISS CEEANNE slow to begin.
When shifting in to assume the lead approaching the 1000m., S. Katsidis, rider of ZUKA, straightened that gelding so as to avoid tightening REGAL CENTRE. As a consequence, ZUKA bumped OUTBREAK which was racing to its outside, which in turn shifted out, hampering CLOSE TO DANGER.
PELT and HIMALAYA FALCON raced wide on the first turn.
RACE 8: GUINESS AUSTRALIA H'CAP 1200M.
BREAK AND ENTER suffered severe injuries to the off fore leg whilst being transported to the course. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that BREAK AND ENTER was euthanased on humane grounds subsequent to arriving on course. BREAK AND ENTER was officially withdrawn at 2.55 p.m..
PICHOLINE, which came into contact with the outside fence whilst parading behind the barriers, was withdrawn at 5.01 p.m. acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon, who advised that PICHOLINE had sustained a laceration and bruising to the off flank. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on PICHOLINE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
As the start was effected, THE EXPAT blundered badly, almost dislodging its rider, M. Williamson. In this incident, M. Williamson's foot became dislodged from the off side stirrup iron which he was unable to regain until nearing the 1000m..
THE EXPAT was forced to race very wide throughout the middle stages.
G. Duffy, rider of THREATNER, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the 1000m. when not clear of LINEA, resulting in LINEA being taken inwards and in turn cramping the racing room of I REALISE and KRULEWSKI.
On the home turn, LINCOLN ROAD was momentarily tightened for room by THE EXPAT, which shifted in slightly.
ALL WINNERS AND WISHART WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
