WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 2M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: PARAVANE H'CAP - 2212M.
As apprentice A. Masters was unable to claim his full allowance on BOLD AND BRASH, he was replaced by apprentice C. Eaton. A. Masters was fined $100.
SEMIPRECIOUS overraced and pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
Passing the 200m., JUST MACCA shifted out under pressure, taking BOLD AND BRASH out on to COURT BALLET.
Near the 100m., JUST MACCA again shifted out, taking BOLD AND BRASH out on to COURT BALLET, resulting in BOLD AND BRASH having to be steadied near the 50m.. S. Shield, rider of JUST MACCA, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
RACE 2: CHARMOSA H'CAP - 1200M.
JAFFAJACK, which was injured en route to the course, was declared a late scratching at 11.20 a.m. on veterinary advice.
CALL THE HUNTER and INCONSTANT were slow to begin.
SPIELER jumped awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with GRACEFUL PRINCE.
Near the 1100m., TAMAS shifted in, tightening BABU CHIREE, DYNAMIC FLAME, SPIELER and GRACEFUL PRINCE.
After leaving the 700m., CALL THE HUNTER had to be restrained off the heels of ROJAH FOREST when pulling hard.
Over the concluding stage, TAMAS shifted out under pressure and made heavy contact with ROJAH FOREST, which became unbalanced.
RACE 3: BENGALLA LAD H'CAP - 1400M.
M. Dracos was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 1 and was stood down from his remaining engagements. The following replacements were approved: Race 3. UPHOLD - S. McLean; Race 4. MR. CONNOLLY - A. Best; Race 5. LADY ISABELLA - B. Albuino; Race 6. FAIRYMAN - S. McLean; Race 8. MERV'S WISH - S. McLean.
UNATTAINABLE, CUBA and TOLOCIN were slow to begin.
Passing the 1200m., KINGENI had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CHALLONER, which shifted in.
ONLY THE BRAVE commenced to hang out approaching the 1000m. and continued to do so until after leaving the 600m. and was retired from the event. A veterinary examination of ONLY THE BRAVE following the event failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer N. Cowell was advised that ONLY THE BRAVE would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.
Near the 1000m., ACCOLADY had to be steadied off the heels of SHED THE LIGHT and shifted out near the 900m., forcing PEAK EVEREST wider on the track.
CUBA was obliged to race wide from 600m..
UPHOLD shifted out making the home turn.
Near the 350m., OBRIGADO had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISS SMUGG, which shifted out.
Inside the 200m., UNATTAINABLE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CANNY CONTENDER, which shifted out. J. Stanley, rider of CANNY CONTENDER, was reprimanded and advised to be 2 lengths clear when shifting ground.
Approaching the 100m., OBRIGADO shifted in to avoid the heels of CHALLONER. At the same stage, DORIN DONNA shifted out from behind the heels of KING LAURENCE, which resulted in DORIN DONNA and OBRIGADO making heavy contact and OBRIGADO being checked.
Over the concluding stages, MARY JO had to be steadied when racing in restricted room.
RACE 4: DON'T PLAY H'CAP - 1810M.
CALL TO HONOUR was slow to begin.
MAKES ME DIZZY jumped away awkwardly and made contact with KUTISHA'S BOY.
CITY RHYTHM was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Near the 500m., ROAD TO FREEDOM, which was tiring, shifted in, making contact with VICTORY RANGER, causing VICTORY RANGER to be checked. OVER THE MOON, which was following VICTORY RANGER, shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of that gelding, which resulted in MAKES ME DIZZY having to be steadied to avoid that horse's heels.
Approaching the 400m., VICTORY RANGER again had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROAD TO FREEDOM. A veterinary examination of ROAD TO FREEDOM after the event revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg.
As MAKES ME DIZZY hung out in the straight, trainer F. Thomas was advised that the mare would have to trial in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start. MAKES ME DIZZY had previously been barred in similar circumstances.
Over the concluding stages, KUTISHA'S BOY shifted in and brushed NEDEYEV.
When questioned, trainer J. Neilson stated, as previously advised, it had always been his intention to have MONTESANTOS SPIRIT race in a forward position, and he believed that the addition of blinkers today may have help the gelding to settle better than it had on previous occasions.
RACE 5: ODMUNDA H'CAP - 1500M.
Trainer K. Schweida was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for LADY ISABELLA by the required time.
TENBY SOMETHING jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MAJOR FORCE.
AGGRO was obliged to race wide in the early stage of the event.
Making the home turn, DE KWILA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SIDEKICK, which shifted out. S. Shield, rider of SIDEKICK, was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground.
EMMA READY was unable to secure clear running until the 100m..
RACE 6: JUST NOW H'CAP - 1000M.
Trainer J. McCarter was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for DANEWIN BEAUTY by the required time.
HIDDEN TREASURES shifted out at the start, making contact with MY TEMPEST.
SAHARA MACA also shifted out at the start and made contact with FLYING SOVEREIGN.
BROTHER BORRELLI and PHILP were slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m., PHILP had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SALTY SAL, which shifted in.
BONNY BREW made the crossing awkwardly.
Near the 500m., THE BURCUTTER became awkward and shifted in, brushing the running rail, then shifted out slightly. STOPOUT, which was following, shifted out to avoid the heels of THE BURCUTTER, taking SALTY SAL out on to BONNY BREW, which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FAIRYMAN. RELEVANCE, which was following, also had to be checked in this incident.
At the 250m., MY LOURDES had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HIDDEN TREASURES, which shifted out abruptly under pressure.
Near the 200m., BONNY BREW had to be checked to avoid the heels of FAIRYMAN, which shifted in slightly.
RACE 7: LORD PENN H'CAP - 1600M.
PRINCE STARLIGHT and FOSCAT were checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between UMPIRE and JEUNE'S JESTER, which was taken out by GREEN LIGHT ON.
Near the 500m., JEUNE'S JESTER, which was racing fiercely at the heels of BAILS, shifted in slightly, resulting in UMPIRE, FOSCAT and GREEN LIGHT ON all being tightened for room.
At the 250m., CARBRECEL had to be checked when tightened for room between UMPIRE, which shifted out slightly, and JEUNE'S JESTER, which improved quickly to the inside of the heels of MARIDPOUR. In this incident, JEUNE'S JESTER was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of A. Masters, rider of MARIDPOUR. Both M. Pelling, rider of JEUNE'S JESTER, and J. Stanley, rider of UMPIRE, were advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
Passing the 200m., RAFFUTE had to be checked when attempting to improve between SKY ROYAL and FIELD GOAL, where there was insufficient room.
SAMMY had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 100m., where it shifted in and inconvenienced PRINCE STARLIGHT.
RAFFUTE was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 8: PRINCE GAUNTLET H'CAP - 1200M.
GOLD BOLERO jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start, NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE was tightened for room between AWESOME EDGE and NOBLE EFFORT, which shifted in.
Making the home turn, NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE had to be checked to avoid the heels of GOLD BOLERO.
GAINLY LAD had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
