QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.23.10.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr G. Ireland, Mr D. Hensler.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 3.5M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: From QTC. meeting, Saturday, 19.10.02.

L. Morrison was severely reprimanded for returning to scale on TOBASCO GIRL in race 8 when in excess of half a kilogram overweight.

Trainer B. Smith informed stewards that following the disappointing performance of PHENOM at the above meeting, the horse was found to be suffering from muscular soreness in the back.

RACE 1: ROY RADUNZ H'CAP - 1818M.

As there was no rider available, stewards acceded to a request from trainer R. Heathcote to permit C. Reith to ride BIDDADDBA half a kilogram over its allocated weight. C. Reith was fined the sum of $200.

OUR PROUD HOPE was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 12.55 p.m. when the horse became fractious in the mounting enclosure and could not be mounted to go to the barriers. Trainer R. Deas was advised that OUR PROUD HOPE would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before racing again.

BIDDADDABA was a late scratching at 12.58 p.m. when the horse was unable to be loaded. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that BIDDADDABA would be ineligible to race until it officially trials to the satisfaction of the stewards, and the horse must also obtain a further barrier test certificate at a jumpout.

Following the late withdrawals of OUR PROUD HOPE at 12.55 p.m. and BIDDADDABA at 12.58 p.m., stewards ordered all monies invested on both horses be refunded in full and the following deductions applied: bets placed prior to the first withdrawal at 12.55 be subject to deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, and 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, and that bets placed after the withdrawal of OUR PROUD HOPE and prior to the withdrawal of BIDDADDABA at 12.58 p.m. be subject to deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of winning bets, and 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

KIMBERLEY COOL blundered on jumping away and shifted in, hampering TOO RIGHT and ROSE OF HENNESSY.

Rounding the first turn, SEX AND THE CITI had to be eased as a result of improving inside the heels of BEAT THE BEST.

RACE 2: TONY FITZGERALD H'CAP - 1500M.

COCKY CRUISER was a little slow to begin.

Stewards questioned P. Hammersley concerning his riding of COCKY CRUISER, in particular in the early stages of the race. Trainer G. Stewart informed the inquiry he had instructed P. Hammersley to ride the horse quietly and save it for one final sprint. P. Hammersley explained that in the early stages he allowed the horse to settle at the tail of the field and near the 1200m., when racing on the outside of MAGADI, it shifted away from the rails, thereby forcing COCKY CRUISER 3 wide. When 3 wide, the horse commenced to race keenly, and after being placed 3 wide, he allowed the horse to go forward, however near the 1000m., EXCLAIM shifted away from the rails, forcing PSYCHIC KELLINA wider on the track, and this resulted in COCKY CRUISER having to be steadied and forced 4 wide. After being forced wide, he then elected to ease the horse back in the field in an effort to race closer to the rails. A veterinary examination of COCKY CRUISER failed to reveal any abnormality. After hearing P. Hammersley's explanation, stewards agreed that as a result of movement of other runners in the early stages of the race, he was a victim of circumstances and his explanation was noted.

RACE 3: GWENDA KLEINHANS H'CAP 1200M.

As S. Shield was indisposed, A. Spiteri was substituted as the rider of TRINITY DANCER.

PHIBBER MCGEE jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, causing BRASH to be hampered.

PASHKAA was inclined to race greenly in the straight.

A veterinary examination of BRASH following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: JOHN LEE H'CAP - 1400M.

As A. Pattillo was indisposed, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of SKILFUL DANCER.

TAYLA'S GOLD and THRASH were tightened for room at the start between I TOLD YOU and MAGICAL MADDIE when both horses shifted ground.

As a consequence of jumping away awkwardly, MAGICAL MADIE had to be checked and shifted out across the heels of MISS SIAM.

MISS SIAM resented being restrained in the early stages and was inclined to race ungenerously for some distance.

At the 1000m., THRASH, which was inclined to race keenly in the early stages, shifted in and hampered MAGICAL MADDIE.

THRASH, which tired over the latter stages, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to be tender in the front feet.

RACE 5: MIRIAM GITTINS H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer A. Ross was fined $25 for failing to present PRINCE OF DENMARK to the enclosure with blinkers.

D. Tanti replaced the indisposed G. Duffy on NIGHT DRIVER.

TRUE CONFESSION was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to start.

SPIRITUAL MAN was slow to begin.

TRUE CONFESSIONS, SEANZA and PRINCE OF DENMARK were cramped shortly after the start when tightened for room between PRIDE OF PARIS and CAPRILL when both horses shifted ground.

S. Galloway, rider of FOOTWEAR, was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in near the 700m., resulting in BRAVE GENTLEMAN being steadied.

After being steadied, BRAVE GENTLEMAN was accidentally galloped on by SEAENZA, which was inclined to hang out. Due to being galloped on, BRAVE GENTLEMAN then raced ungenerously and took no competitive part in the race. A veterinary examination of BRAVE GENTLEMAN confirmed that BRAVE GENTLEMAN had been galloped on on the off side hock.

PRIDE OF PARIS and TRUE CONFESIONS had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

D. Evans reported that SEANZA was inclined to lay out throughout running.

A veterinary examination of SPIRITUAL MAN, which finished a considerable distance from the main body of the field, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 6: BILL MCGOVERN H'CAP - 1000M.

JAZZ FUND jumped awkwardly and made contact with MINT REGENT, which shifted in on jumping away.

SAIL THE WIND jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

HOW HIGH SIR was caught wide after the start and raced wide for the majority of the race.

RACE 7: SOUTH-EAST QUEENSLAND COUNTRY CLUBS H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer P. Jones was fined $50 for failing to declare M. McDonald as the rider of SAMMY by the prescribed time.

At the start, KULNURA jumped in the air, resulting in A. Best being dislodged.

Approaching the 300m., DOOGALL'S LUCK shifted out to improve and brushed DESERT SASHAY.

RACE 8: PETER DUNN H'CAP - 1600M.

ANOTHER BELT was a late scratching at 2.17 p.m. when the horse failed a veterinary examination on arrival at the track.

M. Pelling was substituted as the rider of OUR ANGEL when N. Day was indisposed. M. Pelling was subsequently stood down by the club's doctor after riding in race 5 and M. Williamson was substituted as the rider of OUR ANGEL.

M. Rodd replaced the indisposed G. Duffy on RISKY BUSINESS.

S. Campton, rider of RUN A MUK, was fined $50 for returning to scale in excess of .5 of a kilogram over his allocated weight.

RUN A MUK, which was a little slow to begin, was cramped for room shortly after the start between ROYAL DANEHILL and RISKY BUSINESS.

After travelling a short distance, the saddle on MANICURED shifted, placing A. Best at a disadvantage.

Approaching the 1400m., RISKY BUSINESS had to be eased when tightened for room by STAR SENSATION and DANERIN, which was taken in by QUAVI.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
