WEATHER – FINE TRACK – DEAD RAIL – OUT 2M
FROM QTC MEETING 31.05.03: Trainer B. McLachlan was fined $200 for failing to scratch CONSIGLIERE (Race 2) by the prescribed time.
RACE 5: Trainer B. McLachlan and apprentice jockey M. Rodd were questioned as to the riding tactics adopted on PICADAY in the Sires Produce Stakes as compared to how the gelding had been ridden previously. Trainer B. McLachlan stated that he had instructed apprentice Rodd to ride the gelding forward and endeavour to find a position behind the leaders, believing that there was no genuine pace in the race. M. Rodd confirmed the instructions and advised that he was unable to settle PICADAY behind the leaders and was obliged to race very wide throughout the event. Whilst stewards noted Mr McLachlan's explanations, he was nonetheless advised that any change of riding instructions must be notified to stewards.
RACE 8: Approaching the winning post on the first occasion where WE'RE DANCING had to be checked, it was established that at that stage BUSH PADRE shifted out despite the efforts of its rider M. Rodd, taking MAGUIRE out on to WE'RE DANCING.
FROM ITC MEETING 04.06.03: Trainer N. R. Dawson was fined $100 for failing to scratch MADAME SEQUETTE (Race 3) by the prescribed time.
RACE 1: DIVIDE AND RULE H'CAP – 1000M
Trainer B. Cavanough was fined $50 for presenting SPURWINGS in the enclosure without blinkers.
ZODIAC STAR reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
Approaching the 800m QUALO had to be checked when tightened for room between NEGATE and IN THE JUNGLE, both of which shifted ground.
PRINCE HAKEEM, which finished a distant last, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. A swab sample was taken from PRINCE HAKEEM. Connections of PRINCE HAKEEM advised that the gelding would be retired.
A veterinary examination of ZODIAC STAR failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M
Trainer N. R. Dawson was fined $100 for failing to declare a gear change for EDINBURGH.
MERTHYR ROAD and THRONE OF GOLD came together on jumping away.
Shortly after the start NOBLE RED and NEDIYM'S IMAGE made contact on a number of occasions. For some distance thereafter NEDIYM'S IMAGE raced in restricted room between NOBLE RED and MANNAKARMA which shifted in slightly near the 1100m.
NEDIYM'S IMAGE raced greenly throughout the event.
SUNBOAT was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 3: ROUGH HABIT H'CAP – 1500M
AWESOME EDGE was slow to begin.
CORAL SALUTE was obliged to race wide throughout.
Shortly after leaving the 400m WITH MY was checked when attempting a run where there was doubtful room between MAKIN' TRACKS and the tiring SCOTTISH REAVER.
Near the 300m LADY DAMOSEL shifted out to improve and made contact with HUIT. A short distance later LADY DAMOSEL then had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WITH MY which shifted out.
DARCY D'OR was held up for clear running approaching the 100m.
RACE 4: CANTERBURY BELLE H'CAP – 1200M
DEVONPORT was a late scratching at 8.12 a.m. A veterinary certificate will be forwarded.
FLIGHTING was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to start.
MISS ASTUR, which collided with the gate on the barriers when being loaded, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
COTTON BRAE reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
LITTLE MADAME knuckled on jumping away.
BETULA shifted out on jumping away and made contact with BELLE PAREZ.
KALISSA was slow to begin.
FLIGHTING and IRGUNETTE came together on jumping away.
Approaching the first turn LITTLE MADAME was hampered when taken in slightly by BETULA.
After leaving the 800m COTTON BRAE had to be restrained off the heels of SHA ALMA.
COTTON BRAE was held up for clear running approaching the 200m.
RACE 5: EAGLE FARM STAKES – 2212M
Near the 1700m MAGNA CARTA, after being briefly tightened for room by BARAWIN, shifted out and had to be checked off that horse's heels. MAGNA CARTA then continued to hang out for some distance.
Both BARAWIN and REPUBLIC were inclined to hang in under pressure inside the 200m.
RACE 6: BMW QUEENSLAND DERBY QTIS ADDED STAKES – 2400M
PENNY GEM jumped away awkwardly.
After being crossed by SCHUMPETER approaching the winning post on the first occasion, HALF HENNESSY was inclined to race ungenerously and had to be steadied.
Passing the winning post PENNY GEM shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced. At the same stage, HALF HENNESSY shifted out and made contact with BURNING PLATFORM, taking that runner out on to the hind quarters of THE JEWEL. LORD WOBURN, which was following PENNY GEM, also shifted in and made contact with the running rail, then shifted out taking AL MEGDAM out across the heels of KING OF THEM ALL. KRAVITZ and PLATINUM SCISSORS, which were following, were hampered in this incident.
Approaching the 1000m KING OF THEM ALL attempted to shift out from behind the heels of BURNING PLATFORM and made contact with AL MEGDAM and as a result became unbalanced and shifted back in.
PLATINUM SCISSORS was obliged to race wide from after leaving the 1000m.
After leaving the 600m FOUNTAIN ABBEY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KING OF THEM ALL which shifted out.
Making the home turn BOB'S BOY shifted out, taking PENNY GEM out on to the hind quarters of THE JEWEL.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PLATINUM SCISSORS, L. Beasley stated that due to the tempo of the race PLATINUM SCISSORS was not able to sprint when asked for an effort and as a result did not make any significant ground.
When questioned as to the performance of BOB'S BOY, C. Munce stated that whilst BOB'S BOY had raced closer to the lead than he had expected, the gelding relaxed and travelled well, however when placed under pressure prior to the home turn failed to respond to his riding.
RACE 7: AAMI STRADBROKE – 1400M
EMISSION jumped away awkwardly.
Making the first turn both SALGADO and OSCA WARRIOR had to be restrained to avoid heels.
N. Rawiller, the rider of BEL ESPRIT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that after leaving the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in, taking NORTH BOY in on to CENTURY KID, resulting in CENTURY KID having to be checked. N. Rawiller was found guilty of a further charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the 1000m he permitted BEL ESPRIT to shift in, taking NORTH BOY in on to SCENIC PEAK, resulting in SCENIC PEAK having to be checked when taken on to the hind quarters of FALVELON. On each charge N. Rawiller was suspended for a period of 12 meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday, 12 June and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 2 July 2003, with the periods of suspension to be served concurrently. N. Rawiller was also fined the sum of $2,500 in relation to each charge.
After leaving the 1000m COSMIC RAYS had to be steadied off the heels of GORDO.
Making the home turn SCENIC PEAK was inconvenienced when steadying off the heels of FALVELON which shifted in.
C. Brown, the rider of GORDO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of MOON DRAGON, resulting in MOON DRAGON being checked and losing its position. C. Brown was suspended for a period of 9 meetings to commence at midnight on Thursday, 12 June and expire at midnight on Thursday, 26 June. C. Brown was also fined the sum of $2,000.
Near the 100m BEL ESPRIT shifted out under pressure, resulting in GORDO, which had improved quickly to that horse's outside, shifting out taking CENTURY KID wider. CHUCKLE, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of CENTURY KID.
G. Colless, the rider of MAKE MINE MAGIC, was questioned as to the disappointing performance of that gelding. He stated that the horse had begun well and had a nice run behind the leader, however was struggling to maintain that position approaching the home turn and could offer no excuses. A veterinary examination of MAKE MINE MAGIC failed to reveal any abnormality.
G. Boss, the rider of the winner PRIVATE STEER, was fined $500 under AR.137C for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line.
A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter DIAMOND DANE.
RACE 8: WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS H'CAP – 1200M
D. Gauci, the rider of HUEY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of DYNAMIC DANCING, resulting in DYNAMIC DANCING having to be checked and losing its position. D. Gauci was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 11 June and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 25 June 2003. D. Gauci was also fined the sum of $1,000.
After leaving the 200m ESSJAYPEE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring KILLACHI. ESSJAYPEE was then unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the event.
Near the 100m HUEY had to be steadied when tightened for room between RANCHO RHYTHM and DYNAMIC DANCING which shifted out.
Trainer B. McLachlan and jockey C. Brown were questioned as to the tactics that were adopted on PICABLU, bearing in mind that Mr McLachlan had advised early in the day that PICABLU would be restrained from its outside barrier position to take a rearward position with cover. Mr McLachlan confirmed that he had given those instructions to jockey Brown who stated that after jumping well he endeavoured to steady PICABLU but that the gelding resented being restrained and after travelling 200m he was of the view that it would be in the best interests of the horse to allow it to stride forward. Their explanations were noted.
ALL WINNERS, PRINCE HAKEEM AND MAKE MINE MAGIC WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
