QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.9.6.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr D. Hensler, Mr C. Clifford, Mr G. Ireland, Mr D. Collingwood, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: CAFÉ 21 H'CAP - 1820M.

Approaching the 1200m., when the pace steadied, BUSH TRIUMPH was obliged to check off the heels of MAKES ME DIZZY, and in doing so shifted out.

C'MON MATE was held up for clear running in the straight until near the 200m., and then was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages.

TIMBER TYCOON was held up for clear running until near the 100m..

When improving between CAREYES and SUPER GRADES over the concluding stages, KISS AN ANGEL made contact with CAREYES on 2 occasions.

A veterinary examination of C'MON MATE following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 2: CASINO REWARDS H'CAP - 1300M.

MALTESE EDITION was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found to be lame in the near fore leg. MALTESE EDITION was declared a late scratching at 12.48 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on MALTESE EDITION were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

BANFF CONNECTION shifted in on jumping away, taking LEVANTE in on to MALLET.

SMIK and MAY ROYAL came together on jumping away, resulting in SMIK losing ground.

After passing the 1000m., EL TEMPESTAD commenced to pull hard and shifted out abruptly across the heels of LEVANTE.

Near the 800., BANFF CONNECTION shifted out from behind the heels of CATECHISM, forcing MAY ROYAL wider on the track.

Passing the 700m., SUNDAE JESTER, when being restrained off the heels of DOOGALL'S LUCK, shifted out, inconveniencing CATECHISM.


RACE 3: SIR DOUGLAS WADLEY QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

ANNIE LA VIE was a late scratching at 9.20 a.m. on veterinary advice.

KAS NEDIYM jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with CRYSTAL LANE.

THE FAVE and BELLA COUREUSE were slow to begin.

Leaving the 1000m., SYDNEY'S QUEST had to be restrained off the heels of PARMENA, which shifted in.

Passing the 900m., SHEDAD'S PRINCESS, when being steadied, clipped the heels of KAI CHOW and blundered.

After leaving the 800m., KAS NEDIYM pulled hard and had to be restrained off the heels of OUR RIO and then shifted out. This enabled both SYDNEY'S QUEST and CHARLOTTE SOUND to improve quickly to the inside of KAS NEDIYM. Approaching the 700m., KAS NEDIYM then shifted in slightly, resulting in SYDNEY'S QUEST being taken in on to CHARLOTTE SOUND, which had to be checked. DANE TRYST, which was following, had to be steadied in this incident.

At the same stage, DELLWOOD DANCER raced ungenerously when being restrained, and BELLA COUREUSE, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of DELLWOOD DANCER.

BELLA COUREUSE was held up for clear running approaching the 200m..

Near the 100m., KAI CHOW was inclined to lay in under pressure and made contact with BELLA COUREUSE.

Approaching the winning post, KAI CHOW had to be checked when briefly tightened for room between BELLA COUREUSE and DELLWOOD DANCER, which shifted in. J. Taylor, rider of DELLWOOD DANCER, was advised to make greater effort to prevent his horses shifting ground.

Trainer S. Dwyer was questioned regarding the improved performance of OUR RIO as compared with its 11th of 12 at Doomben on 24 May. He stated on that occasion from a wide barrier, OUR RIO was forced wide in the early stages and was ridden forward to obtain a position closer to the running rail, and as a result was unable to sustain a finishing effort. He also advised that, in his opinion, the filly was better suited over today's distance of 1200 metres as compared to the 1350 metres of the Doomben effort.


RACE 4: CLUB CONRAD QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer B. Guy was fined $50 for presenting SUPER ENTRÉE to the enclosure without blinkers.

The saddle shifted forward on SUPER ENTRÉE approaching the 1000m., placing M. Rodd at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

At the entrance to the straight, MONACO MISS shifted out slightly, taking MINING SILVER out on to WHAT A GUY.

Shortly after entering the straight, WIDE AWAKE shifted out to improve, resulting in FLASH VALENTINE being forced wider on the track.

Near the 200m., SUPER ENTRÉE shifted in, tightening the running of CONSIGLIERE.

CHASSIS was held up for clear running at the 200m..

Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that CHASSIS had sustained a laceration to the near hind cannon and had pulled up lame in the near knee.


RACE 5: MARCO POLO H'CAP - 1600M.

MAKE ME A MIRACLE and KENCONCARNE were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m., KENCONCARNE had to be checked when briefly tightened for room by KOOTOOMOTOO, which shifted in slightly. M. Rodd, rider of KOOTOOMATOO was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.

Passing the 1000m., MAGIQUE SKY had to be restrained off the heels of INSPIRE.

RAW INSTINCT was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Trainer T. McEvoy and jockey K. McEvoy were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COURT OF JEWELS. Trainer McEvoy stated that he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance, adding that the horse had worked well leading up to today's event and he was of the belief that adding blinkers would improve the horse's performance. Jockey McEVoy stated that COURT OF JEWELS had a perfect run with a trail behind the leaders, however failed to respond when placed under pressure shortly after entering the straight. A swab sample was taken from COURT OF JEWELS.


RACE 6: THE T.J. SMITH QTIX ADDED STAKES - 1600m.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 4th placegetter, WINDY KATE, against AMBULANCE being declared 3rd, alleging interference from the 1500 metres until after leaving the 1200m.. After taking evidence from all parties, stewards dismissed the objection as they were of the opinion that whilst both horses raced tightly at this stage, there was no significant interference to warrant a reversal of placings.

Near the 200m., SIR DEX had to be checked when tightened for room by WINDY KATE, which shifted out to improve, and MAGSAYA, which shifted in when tiring.


RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO BRISBANE CUP - 3200M.

Passing the 1600m., HENDERSON BAY commenced to pull hard and as a result, S. Seamer was obliged to allow that gelding to stride forward.

Stewards inquired into the reason for C. Munce being dislodgd from MAGUIRE near the 1100m.. After taking evidence from C. Munce (MAGUIRE) and C. Brown (CORPORATE QUEEN), which was following, it was established that MAGUIRE had broken down in the near hind leg and lost ground rapidly, resulting in C. Munce being dislodged. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MAGUIRE had sustained a spontaneous fracture of its of hind tibia. As A result of this incident, CORPORATE QUEEN, KUGELHOPF, GREY SONG, WAZZA STAR, HOMEWRECKER, PIACHAY were all checked to varying degrees, and WE'RE DANCING and LE DESTINA were forced wider. MAGUIRE was euthanased on humane grounds.

Near the 50m., PIACHAY shifted out slightly, inconveniencing COUNTY TYRONE.

CORPORATE QUEEN bled from both nostrils during the event and will be barred from racing for the mandatory period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from CORPORATE QUEEN.

Trainer N. McBurney reported that HENDERSON BAY pulled up sore in the near fore leg.

RACE 8: CONRAD TREASURY BRISBANE LIGHTNING - 1000M.

As C. Munce was injured when riding in race 7, W. J. Cook was substituted as the rider of OMNITRADER.

Close to the finish line, ALPINE EXPRESS had to be steadied when briefly tightened for room between SIR BREAKFAST and CEFFYL, both of which shifted ground.

Trainer J. Morrisey was questioned regarding the improved performance of PEMBLETON as compared to its previous start at Eagle Farm on 11 May. He stated on that occasion, as reported by the stewards, PEMBLETON was obliged to race very wide and he was of the opinion that this severely affected the horse's chances.

ALL WINNERS, COURT OF JEWELS AND CORPORATE QUEEN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
