QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.16.8.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr C. Clifford, Mr W. Flynn, Mr W. Geggie, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: CACHONDEO H'CAP - 2200M.

KAAPBET was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, DESK TOP LOVER was hampered by MR. FIORELLI, which shifted out.

RACE 2: SHOW H'CAP - 1200 - 1200M.

After leaving the 400m., REGENT STREET shifted out to improve and made contact with BOLD WILLIAM.

RACE 3: GREY AFFAIR H'CAP - 1200M.

I'M YOURS was a late scratching at 12.42 p.m. upon report from the veterinary surgeon in the pre-race area that he had some concerns with the mare. After consultation with trainer A. Bailey, the mare was withdrawn.

When questioned, M. Rice stated that he had been instructed to lead on CANADIAN COURTING and as a result he had ridden the mare aggressively out of the barriers, and upon reaching the lead passing the 1000m., he elected to ease, however CANADIAN COURTING lost her momentum very quickly. M. Rice was advised that in the opinion of the stewards he had erred by restraining the mare to a point where riders following were disadvantaged. In this incident, ALLEZ JOIE had to be checked to avoid the heels of CANADIAN COURTING and shifted out, forcing I'M IN HEAVEN and OODLES 'N' BOODLES wider on the track.

RACE 4: MAXAM H'CAP - 1200M.
.
As S. Katsidis was to be overweight, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of PERLE D'OR. S. Katsidis was fined $200.

VAIN AND HANDY and BALMURANZ were slow to begin.

RACE 5: OUR ROSALEE H'CAP - 1826M.

B. Albuino reported that he had been instructed to lead on SMIK and as a result he had ridden the gelding hard from the barrier, however after reaching the lead after leaving the 1600m., SMIK commenced to overrace and he was unable to restrain his mount for some distance.

After leaving the 1600m., MULLIGAN commenced to pull hard and race fiercely until near the 1000m..

Following this race, the track rating was downgraded to dead.
RACE 6: YOUNG CARBINIER QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.

An application was made by foreperson Mr E. Petrie, representing trainer J. Wallace, that the blinkers be removed from GET CARTER even though it was an advertised gear change. Mr Petrie indicated that a gear change had originally been lodged late last year when it was thought that GET CARTER would start in a Magic Millions event. As Get Carter had not worked or trialled in blinkers this preparation, permission was granted for the removal of same, however a fine of $200 was imposed.

A veterinary examination of GET CARTER which was kicked by RED MILE behind the barriers, revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration and showing signs of lameness in the near hind leg. GET CARTER was declared a late scratching at 3.30 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on GET CARTER were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

DAME NOVA jumped away awkwardly and made contact with RED MILE.

At the entrance to the straight, KAS NEDIYM shifted out to improve and made contact with RAJA PRINCE.

CAMBOOYA was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

When questioned, G. Colless reported that after travelling well for the first 300m., RED MILE was inconvenienced by NORTHERN FORCE, which was inclined to hang out. However, after leaving the 500m., the colt was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. He added that he did not believe the prevailing track conditions had been a factor in the horse's performance. Trainer G. Ryan stated he could offer no excuse for the showing, indicating that the colt had trialled and worked well and he had expected RED MILE to finish in the placegetters. A veterinary examination of RED MILE failed to reveal any abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.

RACE 7: SUPER MINE H'CAP - 1200M.

As G. Colless was to be overweight, B. Stewart was substituted as the rider of MALTESE LINER and M. Pelling as the rider of TIME'S PRECIOUS.

ROYAL OPERA was obliged to race wide throughout.

RACE 8: BRIAN MURPHY BIRTHDAY H'CAP - 1400M.

Prior to the event, trainer R. Macrae confirmed that MIXADAD will be ridden forward as it was at Doomben on 6 August. He indicated that in previous preparations the gelding had always been ridden closer to the lead when racing over distances longer than 1200m..

B. Albuino reported that MOSBY refused to settle in the early and middle stages.

After leaving the 1200m., MOSBY got its head up when being restrained off the heels of ACE CLUB.

Passing the 1000m., MIXADAD shifted in slightly, tightening the running of ACE CLUB. MOSBY, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of ACE CLUB.
Over the concluding stages, COURT'S IN SESSION and MIXADAD brushed.

TIME'S PRECIOUS was obliged to race wide throughout the event, and was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Jockey B. Stewart was questioned as to his riding out of ACE CLUB from the 400m.. B. Stewart stated that prior to the home turn the gelding was under pressure and only responded fairly and that he had difficulty with visibility in the early stages of the straight. Whilst his explanation was noted, B. Stewart was severely reprimanded and advised that even in difficult circumstances, he must make every effort to ride his mounts out to the line.

Following the event, trainer D. Smith reported that MOSBY had sustained lacerations to the mouth.

ALL WINNERS AND I'M YOURS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
