WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION
GENERAL: As M. Rodd and G. Birney were indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved.: M. Rodd - Race 3. LITHE - D. Evans; Race 4. ARMAMENT - S. Galoway. Race 5. DOODA HUCKLEBUCK - J. Stanley. Race 6. STRANGE CONFLICT - M. Carson. Race 7. PRINCE HAL - G. Colless. Race 8. PERLE D'OR - D. Evans.
RACE 1:COMCATER H'CAP - 1000M.
As G. Birney was to be overweight, M. Bennett was substituted as the rider of MICRONIZED. G. Birney was reprimanded.
BIRTHDAY BASH was slow to begin.
PICK OF PICKS raced wide in the early stages. When questioned, D. Browne stated that he had expected the gelding to lead, however after travelling a short distance, the horse was inclined to hang out and race ungenerously, and he was of the opinion that something may be amiss with PICK OF PICKS and had reported that to trainer B. McLachlan. He added that eased the gelding over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of PICK OF PICKS revealed the gelding to be suffering acute shin soreness in both forelegs. Trainer B. McLachlan advised that PICK OF PICKS would be spelled immediately.
Near the 700m., SPECIAL QUE shifted in, taking RETENTION in on to BIRTHDAY BASH, which became unbalanced.
After leaving the 400m., MICRONIZED shifted in and had to be restrained off the heels of SPECIAL QUE. MICRONIZED continued to hang in for the remainder of the event.
G. Colless reported that after leaving the 400m., BIRTHDAY BASH was reluctant to race in restricted room to the inside of TOWN RULER.
A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, BIRTHDAY BASH.
RACE 2: IGA H'CAP - 1600M.
SAND CAY, which proved difficult to load and was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer T. Hewitt was advised that a warning would be placed on SAND CAY in relation to its barrier manners.
LAWSON HILL was slow to begin.
Passing the 1100m., SAND CAY shifted out from behind the heels of TELEGRAND when racing ungenerously.
At the entrance to the straight, BISHOP BILL shifted out to improve and hampered TELEGRAND.
When questioned, jockey J. Stanley stated that the only excuse he could offer for the performance of TELEGRAND was that the gelding may not have appreciated the rise in distance to 1600m. as compared to its last 3 starts which were over 1300m.. A veterinary examination of TELEGRAND failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: MCCANIN'S H'CAP - 1800M.
VICTORY RANGER was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.
NOBLE CASTE was slow to begin.
NOBLE CASTE was disappointed for a run near the 200m. between PHENOM and HOT FAME.
ENTITY was held up and unable to obtain clear running until near the 100m..
Approaching the 100m., PERFECT STING, when tiring, shifted in and made contact with DEFINITE DECISION, resulting in PERFECT STING becoming unbalanced.
RACE 4: HOPGOOD GANIM QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.
The starter Mr Bill Schuck reported that prior to gates being released, ARMAMENT initially lunged forward, resulting in SIR SUCCESS, which was positioned in the adjoining stall, becoming fractious and A Russell being dislodged. The start was further delayed when the bridle on SIR SUCCESS had to be adjusted.
MONOPLIST was hampered on jumping away between STAR TRIPPER and EXPRESS FORCE, both of which shifted ground.
BREBEAUDAN LAD blundered on jumping away.
SIR SUCCESS and NEDIYM'S SHADOW were slow to begin.
Near the 650m., MONOPOLIST shifted away from HELLENIC WARRIOR and made contact with SAMMY SEQUALO.
Near the 200m., MONOPOLIST, after being brushed by NEDIYM'S SHADOW, shifted out abruptly, resulting in WHAT'S IT LIKE having to be checked when taken out on to the hind quarters of COUNT IVOR. COUNT IVOR was also unbalanced in this incident.
HELLENIC WARRIOR was obliged to race wide throughout.
RACE 5: SEALORD H'CAP - 1200M.
PICABLU was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
Passing the 800m., DOODA HUCKLEBUCK had to be restrained off the heels of RANGERS.
Approaching the home turn, DOODA HUCKELBUCK shifted out to improve and made contact with LAMOND. A short distance later, DOODA HUCKELBUCK had to be checked when tightened for room between LAMOND and MERKABA, which shifted out when being brushed by RANGERS.
KATABATIC and OUTBACK ROSE were obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 6: SAM'S BRISBANE H'CAP - 1600M.
JEUNE'S JESTER cast its near fore plate at the barriers, resulting in a nail penetration the sole of its foot. JEUNE'S JESTER was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 3.38 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on JEUNE'S JESTER were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
Passing the 1000m., WARRIOR TRADER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FORTUNE'S HAND, which shifted in. GENERAL MINOLTA, which was following, shifted out away from the heels of WARRIOR TRADER, making contact with PERFECT PARADISE, forcing that gelding wider on the track.
S. Katsidis reported that the saddle on STORMY JOE shifted to the near-side after leaving the 1000m., placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Both G. Colless and J. Stanley were reprimanded for their conduct in the jockeys' room after the running of this race.
RACE 7:RIVER 94.9 FM C.E.B. BARNES PLATE - 2400M.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, UP THE BID had to be steadied to avoid the heels of AQUATIC DRIVE, which shifted in.
Near the 700m., AQUATIC DRIVE attempted to improve to the outside of the heels of IN NIUBINI and was unable to do so when LAURINEL IMPULSE held its position. As a result, AQUATIC DRIVE had to be checked. S. Katsidis, rider of AQUATIC DRIVE, was reprimanded regarding this incident.
Over the concluding stages, AQUATIC DRIVE was held up for clear running.
Near the 100m., E. Simmons, rider of BARHILL, was obliged to stop riding when tightened for room between MAKES ME DIZZY and KUGELHOPH, which shifted out under pressure.
G. Colless reported that PRINCE HAL did not appreciate the firm racing surface today. A veterinary examination PRINCE HAL following the event failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from PRINCE HAL.
POTESTAS was also examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported.
RACE 8: PITCHER PARTNERS H'CAP - 1300M.
PITCH BLACK jumped inwards at the start, taking SUNDAE JESTER in on to CORAL SALUTE. A short distance later, KID TREASURE shifted in, further tightening SUNDAE JESTER, which had to be checked.
Shortly after the start, SPONGE BOB had to be steadied to avoid the heels of POACHERS LUCK, which shifted out.
The nomination of PITCH BLACK, which finished a distant last, will be refused in the metropolitan area.
G. Colless reported that PRINCE HAL did not appreciate the firm racing surface today.
G. Colless, rider of SUNDAE JESTER, was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
