WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 2M ALL TRACK
RACE 1: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE BRISBANE WEST H'CAP - 1000M.
SPRITELY DANCER, INTREPID ONE and BRYNICA were all slow to begin.
THEY SAID jumped awkwardly.
CAWDOR BULLET and VENUS CELESTE also came together on jumping away.
INTREPID ONE blundered making the crossing. BRYNICA, which was following INTREPID ONE, was obliged to shift out abruptly.
Near the 400m., THEY SAID was obliged to shift out abruptly to avoid the heels of COVER IT UP.
Close to the finish line, CAFFE FRANCAIS shifted in under pressure and brushed SELMA.
RACE 2: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE LOCKYER & DOWNS H'CAP - 1810M.
After leaving the 700m., CRACKERJACK'S HOPE improved to the inside of the heels of BISHOP BILL and had to be restrained.
Near the 500m., CRACKERJACK'S HOPE shifted out to improve from behind the heels of BISHOP BILL and forced THAT'S MY MUM wider on the track.
Approaching the 400m., D'ARGENT FILLE shifted out abruptly to improve, making contact with THAT'S MY MUM, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Z. Purton, rider of D'ARGENT FILLE, was reprimanded regarding this incident.
S. Katsidis was questioned as to the performance of BISHOP BILL. He stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the race, and when asked for an effort near the 500m., the gelding had made ground, however in the straight failed to finish the race off as expected and was slightly disappointing. A veterinary examination of BISHOP BILL failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken.
B. Stewart was questioned as to his riding of TIMESTO in the straight, particularly after leaving the 200m., where a run presented itself between ENTITY and BISHOP BILL. B. Stewart stated that he had been advised by the trainer that the gelding had a tendency to hang in, and therefore in the early stages of the straight his intention was to come to the outside of ENTITY, however he was unable to do so due to it hanging in. He further stated that TIMESTO continued to lay in, which prevented him from getting to the outside of the heels of ENTITY after leaving the 200m., and he was then held up for clear running over the concluding stages. B. Stewart's explanation was noted.
RACE 3: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE CARINA QTIS ADDED STAKES H
As G. Farrer was indisposed, P. Hammersley was substituted as the rider of SIMPLY VIV and D. Griffin as the rider of NEW CHAPTER.
On jumping away, DELLWOOD DANCER shifted in, taking ACTIVE COMBAT in on to PUBLIC EYE, which blundered.
HELLENIC WARRIOR blundered on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, DANE SHAKIRA was tightened for room between PUBLIC EYE and WHAT'S IT LIKE, which shifted out.
M. Rodd reported TROPICAL EXPRESS raced fiercely when being restrained off the heels of WHAT'S IT LIKE in the middle stages.
Approaching the 200m., TROPICAL EXPRESS shifted out and away from SIMPLY VIV, taking WHAT'S IT LIKE out on to ACTIVE COMBAT, which had to be checked.
Trainer R. Heathcote reported that WHAT'S IT LIKE was found to have been stripped badly on both hind legs following the event.
RACE 4: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE REDLANDS H'CAP - 1600M.
COMMAND THE WIND and KAVORKA were slow to begin.
SUPER IMPRINT attempted to buck and race ungenerously for the first 200m. of the event. A veterinary examination of SUPER IMPRINT failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that SUPER IMPRINT must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
S. Katsidis, rider of NORTHERN FORCE, accidentally dropped his whip near the 100m..
RACE 5: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE BRISBANE SOUTH H'CAP - 1400M.
WIDE AWAKE made the crossing awkwardly at the 600m..
JUGGLING TIME had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
RACE 6: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE QUEENSLAND CUP - 3200M.
As there was no other rider available, permission was given for D. Griffin to replace G. Farrer declaring 1 kilogram overweight.
FUJI BELLE pulled hard in the early stages.
POTESTAS raced wide in the early stages of the race.
M. Rodd reported that approaching the crossing on the first occasion he was unable to restrain IN NIUGINI due to that horse racing fiercely and as a result shifted out, taking UP THE BID wider on the track.
LAWLER shifted out near the 2100m. and had to be checked off the heels of UP THE BID, forcing MR. INSURANCE wider on the track. LAWLER continued to race ungenerously.
After leaving the 1600m., FUJI BELLE was obliged to race wide.
S. Shield was questioned as to why he surrendered the lead on JUST MACCA near the 2400m.. He stated his instructions were to lead, however when challenged by IN NIUGINI, which was racing fiercely, he elected to race in behind that horse.
An inquiry has been adjourned into a complaint lodged by apprentice M. Rodd regarding an incident which occurred in the jockeys room with Mr S. Jones' foreperson, Mr B. Pearson.
A veterinary examination of POTESTAS failed to reveal any abnormality.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that UP THE BID was suffering from heat stress following the event.
RACE 7: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE MACGREGOR H'CAP - 1200M.
PANZER jumped outwards at the start, taking AMBER BOY out on to POLENTA, which had to be checked.
DEUXIEME was slow to begin.
WESTERN BRACE raced ungenerously after leaving the 1000m..
After leaving the 800m., WAYJO, which was pulling hard, clipped the heels of STAR GROOM and blundered.
Near the 100m., WAYJO had to be steadied of the heels of WESTERN BRACE, which shifted out.
A veterinary examination of STAR GROOM was found to have been galloped on on the off hind hock following the event.
RACE 8: MAKING LOANS EASY H'CAP - 1200M.
SPORTS CLASS, which sustained an injury to its near hock when proceeding to the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 4.59 p.m. on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on SPORTS CLASS were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
GAINLY LAD was slow to begin.
Passing the 800m., ORIGIN HERO had to be steadied off the heels of MACALBERT.
When questioned regarding his whip use on ORIGIN HERO in the straight, Z. Purton stated that he initially tested the horse with the whip in his left hand, however due to its tendency to lay in, he changed the whip to his right hand. He added his mount then shifted out, and when changing the whip back to his left he had difficulty due to the reins being slippery.
An inquiry was adjourned into a complaint lodged by D. Gollan relating to SPORTS CLASS not being led to the barriers by the Clerk of the Course when requested to do so.
ALL WINNERS AND BISHOP BILL WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
