QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.1.1.04

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL -5M ALL TRACK


RACE 1: MATAMATA H'CAP - 1200M.

REVOLUTIONS jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the first turn, LEICA WINNER had to be checked when tightened for room between AMNESIA and ESSENTIALLY, which shifted out and away from MULLION.

Near the 800m., AMNESIA hung in, taking ESSENTIALLY in on to LEICA WINNER, which had to be steadied. AMNESIA then shifted out abruptly after this incident.

After leaving the 600m., QUEEN CALLOW hung out for a short distance.

RUBI D'AMOUR, which was obliged to race wide throughout, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon following the event, with no abnormalities detected at the time of examination.


RACE 2: TRENTHAM H'CAP - 1600M.

AWESOME EDGE was slow to begin.

SEA SIOUX was inclined to hang out in the middle stages.


RACE 3: AWAPUNI H'CAP - 1200M.

MICK'S TITLE was a late scratching at 7.55 a.m.. Trainer D. Newham will be interviewed in relation to this matter.

CAPTAIN KILOMETRE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Making the first turn, OLYMPIC SUNRISE shifted in and made contact with SUAVE SAM. OLYMPIC SUNRISE then shifted out, making contact with SOUTHBROOK KID, which ran wide.

Making the home turn, SNIPPY shifted out and made contact with COUNT IVOR.

Near the 400m., PHOENIX RULE had to be checked off the heels of SUAVE SAM, which shifted in.

CAPTAIN KILOMETRE raced wide throughout.

Jockey D. Miller reported that SKYROLLER refused to stretch out at any stage of the event. Trainer B. Bowditch advised that he had ridden SKYROLLER work on the morning of Tuesday, 30 December and the colt had worked well, however after today's disappointing performance, SKYROLLER will be immediately spelled. A veterinary examination of SKYROLLER following the event revealed the colt to be sore in the off hind leg. A swab sample was taken from SKYROLLER.


RACE 4: AVONDALE H'CAP - 1200M.

MAN ON A MISSION was slow to begin.

M. Yoshinaga, rider of RETIRE pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 1000m. when not fully clear of ZED STAR, resulting in ZED STAR having to be checked and shift in, tightening the running of GRAND EXPRESS, which was forced in onto TELE SERIES, causing TELE SERIES to be hampered and lose ground. M. Yoshinaga was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 January, and to expire at midnight, 16 January 2004.


RACE 5: TE RAPA H'CAP - 1826M.

TOBIANA pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

Making the crossing at the 600m., WINNING FRIENDS had to be steadied off the heels of COOLANGATTA, which shifted out to improve.

At the entrance to the straight, TOBIANA attempted to take a run between FARISIKNOW and LEXINGTON PARK where there was insufficient room, and as a result made contact with LEXINGTON PARK on a number of occasions and then had to be steadied off the heels of FARISIKNOW near the 300m..

FINLARIG and DORIN DONNA were held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Close to the finish line, FINLARIG had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STEAL A MARCH, which shifted out from behind the heels of ZEDSQUARE. M. Rice, rider of STEAL A MARCH, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

FARISIKNOW was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.


RACE 6: WOODVILLE H'CAP - 1400M.

BARTON BANK jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, brushing ESSJAYPEE.

When questioned as to why he surrendered his position behind the leader after leaving the 1000m., M. Rodd, rider of STARS O' GOLD, stated that he had no alternative but to steady off the heels of FLASH VALENTINE, which eased after racing to the outside of the leader, LIMITED IMPULSE. He further added that STARS O' GOLD then hung out and continued to do so for some distance, which resulted in him racing 3 wide.

Near the 200m., SLEEK ALI shifted out to improve and made contact with STARS O' GOLD.



RACE 7: ELLERSLIE H'CAP - 1400M.

J. McKinnon, rider of STARTELL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 200m. he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THE WRECK, resulting in THE WRECK being taken in on to SCARLEX and having to be checked. J. McKinnon was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 January, and to expire at midnight, 21 January 2004.

When the pace steadied after leaving the 800m., THE WRECK had to be restrained off the heels of WISHART, and COLD START shifted out off the heels of PEARLY KINGS.

After leaving the 400m., LEVANTE was held up for clear running between STARTELL and SCARLEX.

Near the 350m., THE WRECK and LEVANTE raced in restricted room due to WISHART shifting out from behind the heels of KING LOTTO. WISHART then was unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the straight.

Close to the finish line, THE WRECK had to be steadied when tightened for room between STARTELL and LEVANTE, which shifted in under pressure.

STARTELL was obliged to race wide throughout.



RACE 8: RICCARTON H'CAP - 1000M.

SAHARA JAY jumped away awkwardly.

GILDED TIARA and NICEOSS made contact on jumping away and as a result GILDED TIARA was taken back out on to the hind quarters of ROYAL SHIRAZ, which became unbalanced.

DREAMS CAFÉ was slow to begin.

LINCOLN ROAD was obliged to race wide throughout the race.



ALL WINNERS AND SKYROLLER WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
