WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: RIVER 94.9 & BRAS FOR LESS SUMNER PARK QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M
GORGONITE was slow to begin.
INSTANT REWARD hung out passing the 1000m and had to be checked off the heels of MOORALANA.
Near the 650m COLONEL'S CHOICE shifted out from behind the heels of GORGONITE, forcing MISS CAROLION wider on the track.
AUDITED jumped the crossing at the 600m.
OLD LION ran wide making the home turn.
RACE 2: RIVER 94.9 & THE EXCHANGE HOTEL H'CAP – 1800M
Trainer N. Petersen was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for CELTIC TRIAL by the prescribed time.
NO RACING INCIDENTS.
RACE 3: RIVER 94.9 & ALCODOL H'CAP – 1400M
MERKABA and INATIN were slow to begin.
Near the 1200m MERKABA had to be restrained off the heels of TUDOR QUEST and then commenced to race ungenerously for some distance.
INATIN was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that UNDENIED was slightly distressed on returning to the enclosure.
RACE 4: RIVER 94.9 & BASKIN ROBBINS QRSE H'CAP – 2100M
Trainer J. Dann requested the Club's veterinary surgeon to examine JUMATTY on arrival at the track and JUMATTY was subsequently passed to run.
J. Powell was questioned as to the disappointing performance of JUMATTY. He stated that whilst JUMATTY had travelled well up to approaching the home turn, when pushed out by the eventual winner, JUMATTY failed to respond to his riding and he was of the belief that JUMATTY failed to handle the 2100 metres distance of today's event.
N. Day was questioned as to his tactics on DESK TOP LOVER. He stated that at the gelding's previous starts DESK TOP LOVER had been ridden back in the field and had experienced difficulties in finding runs in the straight. He added that he had been instructed today to endeavour to improve the horse's position in the middle stages which would allow DESK TOP LOVER to be more prominent, however after moving forward after leaving the 1000m and racing to the outside of the leader at the 600m, DESK TOP LOVER's run had ended and the gelding failed to run on over the concluding stages.
RACE 5: RIVER 94.9 & JORGE H'CAP – 1000M
Both MERHOOB and KEEP COMING were obliged to race wide throughout.
Near the 250m CHOCOLATE STARFISH shifted out to improve, inconveniencing THREATNER and MERHOOB.
G. Colless reported that CHOCOLATE STARFISH had travelled well throughout the event, however when asked for an effort near the 300m the mare responded only fairly to his riding. A veterinary examination of CHOCOLATE STARFISH failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 6: RIVER 94.9 & BIG DAD'S PIES YOUNG MEMBERS' QRSE CUP – 1200M
AMAIZCAY was slow to begin.
RACE 7: RIVER 94.9 & SUNSTATE CONFECTIONERY QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1300M
VICTORY HIGHWAY was slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn HOOT'S VIEW, after being briefly tightened for room by SPINARDO, commenced to race ungenerously. BLOODLINE, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of HOOT'S VIEW and shifted out abruptly.
A veterinary examination of BLOODLINE failed to reveal any abnormality.
J. Stanley was reprimanded for returning overweight on DRUNKEN JOKER.
RACE 8: RIVER 94.9 & TONGUE & GROOVE BAR H'CAP – 1200M
As S. Shield was indisposed, M. Dorrington was substituted as the rider of OBLIGATIONS.
Trainer T. Hess was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for TRANSCEND by the prescribed time.
J. Stanley, the rider of RAISE 'N' WYN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FIRES OF IRELAND, resulting in that horse being taken in on to TRANSCEND which shifted in causing OBLIGATIONS to be steadied to avoid the heels of TRANSCEND. In this incident, TRANSCEND was further taken in on to ARI BANU, which shifted in resulting in IN THE JUNGLE having to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARI BANU. ARI BANU then made contact with GLOUCESTER ROAD which lost its position. In this incident PARASANG, which was following GLOUCESTER ROAD, had to be eased. J. Stanley was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 24 February and expire at midnight on Thursday, 3 March 2004.
SHOESHINE GAL was obliged to race wide throughout.
At the entrance to the straight VOLCANIC SCENE angled for a run between RAISE 'N' WYN and CONSIGLIERE.
Near the 300m RAISE 'N' WYN shifted out under pressure resulting in VOLCANIC SCENE being crowded for room.
Near the 200m CONSIGLIERE shifted in slightly resulting in further tightening to VOLCANIC SCENE which had to be steadied.
ALL WINNERS AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
