Trainer L. Gough was fined $100 for failing to scratch LIKE A SOUTHERLY from race 4 by the prescribed time.
FROM QTC MEETING, 12.6.04 - RACE 2.
G. Boss, rider of LANG PARK was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m., he permitted his mount to shift out, taking BLACK SUIT out on to CONTEMPORARY, which had to be checked when taken across the heels of HEAVENLY CRUISE. G. Boss was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 June and to expire at midnight, 3 July 2004.
RACE 1: CAFÉ 21 H'CAP - 1820M.
As B. Stewart was to be overweight, L. Morrison was substituted as the rider of SILVER GHOST. B. Stewart was fined the sum of $100.
Making the first turn near the 1600m., ENABLER hung out and made contact with LANDSDOWN HOUSE. ENABLER then commenced to race ungenerously.
SEA ARTIST shifted out on the home turn and made contact with MISSION STATEMENT.
SUPER IMPRINT was obliged to race wide throughout the race.
A veterinary examination of THE COVE DIRECTOR following the event revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg.
RACE 2: SIR DOUGLAS WADLEY QTIS H'CAP - 1200M.
PIMMS was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m., CARINA DONNA shifted out and made contact with ORPENELLA.
OH KITTY ran wide making the home turn.
TEEN A TE was held up for clear running from the 200m. until the finishing line.
Over the concluding stages, LADY OF COURAGE shifted out on a number of occasions and made contact with SEATTLE ZIP.
RACE 3: CASINO REWARDS H'CAP - 1300M.
BANFF CONNECTION and HERCULES MORSE were slow to begin.
Near the 1000m., HERCULES MORSE shifted out and made heavy contact with BANFF CONNECTION.
PALLADIUM STAR was inclined to shift in under pressure over the concluding stages.
BEAMER was obliged to race wide throughout the race.
RACE 4: MARCO POLO H'CAP - 1600M.
CELTIC TRIAL shifted in abruptly on jumping away, tightening the running of AWESOME WEATHER, MISS POTENTIAL and WISHART.
DEUXIEME was slow to begin.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MISS POTENTIAL was slightly sore in the off hind leg following the event.
RACE 5: CLUB CONRAD QTIS H'CAP - 1400M.
GET IT GOOD was declared a late scratching at 12.25 p.m. on veterinary advice after the colt injured its near hind leg in a float accident en route to the course.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Rodd, rider of the 4th placegetter, PROMOTED, against SAHARA JAY being declared 3rd, alleging interference at the 800m.. During the protest hearing, M. Rodd amended his grounds of protest to also include interference near the 200m.. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official film, it was established that near the 800m. SAHARA JAY shifted out abruptly, forcing PROMITED wider on the track, and again at the 200m., SAHARA JAY shifted out, tightening the running of PROMOTED. Stewards were the opinion that the ground lost by PROMOTED in these incidents warranted a reversal of placings, and the Judge's placings were amended to read: No. 2 - ROYAL MASK - 1st; No. 7 - SIR SUCCESS - 2nd; No. 5 - PROMOTED - 3rd; No. 17 - SAHARA JAY - 4th.
ROYAL MASK was tightened for room on jumping away between CASUAL CHICK and KALINGA METAL, which shifted out.
Near the 1100m., DESERT RANSOM had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARROWSWEEP, which shifted in and as a result tightened the running of SAHARA JAY.
After leaving the 1000m. when the pace steadied, ST NICCO commenced to overrace.
At the 800m., SAHARA JAY, which was pulling hard, shifted out abruptly, making contact with PROMOTED, forcing that horse wider on the track.
DESERT RANSOM pulled hard in the middle stages.
CAJUN STEEL and ST NICCO was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Near the 200m., SAHARA JAY shifted out under pressure, tightening the running of PROMOTED.
At the 200m., DESERT RANSOM had to be checked when tightened for room between MITCHUM and ARROWSWEEP, which was taken in slightly by CASUAL CHICK.
KALINGA METAL was obliged to race wide throughout the race.
Trainer P. Wallace and apprentice C. Spry were questioned concerning the performance of DRUNKEN JOKER. Trainer Wallace stated that on return to scale he was advised by apprentice Spry that the tongue of DRUNKEN JOKER had lodged on the side of the ring bit. Apprentice Spry stated that DRUNKEN JOKER had travelled well until near the 500m., whereby DRUNKEN JOKER commenced to hang out and continued to hang out until near the 100m.. The explanations were noted.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that SAHARA JAY had sustained a laceration to the outside of the off foreleg and canon.
RACE 6: THE T.J. SMITH - 1600M.
RULE OF ENGAGEMENT was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 8.44 a.m..
SERENOTE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to this event and passed fit to race.
Upon request from the owner of MAGIC PINS, Ms M. Christos, S. Moses was replaced by A. Best when he was unable to ride that horse at the correct weight. No action was taken against S. Moses.
LORDS A LEAPING was slow to begin.
Near the 1400m., DIAMONDS 'N' PEARLS shifted out, taking SKY MOUNTAIN out on to KENGRANDE.
Near the 300m., LORDS A LEAPING shifted out, taking POOP DECK PAPPY out on to FINE SILVER.
B. Pengelly was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MIDNIGHT CITY. He stated that the colt got further back in the field than he anticipated, however failed to respond to his riding. He further advised that the connections indicated that they would spell the colt immediately. A veterinary examination of MIDNIGHT CITY following the event failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken.
RACE 7: CONRAD TREASURY BRISBANE CUP - 3200M.
UPSETTHYM was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to this event and passed fit to start.
Permission was granted for G. Boss to declare a kilogram overweight on DOUBLE EL AITCH when he was of the understanding that trainer S. B. Laming had sought approval for that circumstance. Whilst no permission had been granted or sought, G. Boss was permitted to ride the horse. Trainer S. B. Laming was fined the sum of $200.
DOUBLE EL AITCH was obliged to race wide in the early stages and middle stagses.
Trainer J. Conlan was questioned as to the instructions given to DANESTORM'S rider M. Walker, as compared to the instructions given to D. Nikolic in the O'Shea Stakes on 5 June. Mr Conlan confirmed that with the drop in weight of 8 kilograms today he instructed M. Walker to ensure he was not caught wide and to endeavor to obtain a trail as soon as possible which would allow DANESTORM to settle. M. Walker stated that after racing wide to the first turn, he allowed DANESTORM to stride forward and then sought cover as soon as possible in the straight on the first occasion. Mr Conlan's explanation was noted.
RACE 8: CONRAD TREASURY BRISBANE LIGHTNING H'CAP - 1000M.
S. Galloway was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on FAIRY QUEEN and was replaced by B. El'issa. B. El'issa was subsequently stood down by the club's doctor and was replaced by G. McKeon, who was give permission to ride FAIRY QUEEN half a kilogram overweight.
CEFFYL blundered on jumping away.
STICKS 'N' STONES was slow to begin.
CLAY SHAKER was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
KOOCHIE was slow to begin.
GENERALISSIMO, which was also slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room by SACRED HILL, which shifted in.
Shortly after entering the straight, MASINDOR shifted out, taking SEQUALITY and STICKS 'N' STONES out on to SIR BREAKFAST and LA SERENADE.
Near the 100m., GOLDEN SNITCH shifted out and made contact with LA SERENADE.
ALL WINNERS AND MIDNIGHT CITY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
