Race 1: Matamata 3yo & Up F & M Maiden H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Noble Lie 2nd -Shinkickin Cowgirl 3rd - Willow Park 4th - Ottavino

The start of this race was delayed for some 3 minutes due to OTTAVINO casting its off hind plate, which necessitated the filly being reshod at the barriers.

Prior to the start, OTTAVINO was noticed to have blood in its mouth, and after a veterinary examination was passed fit to start.

PROCEED TO WARN and OUR CANNY were slow to begin.

PREMEDITATE and SEEING RED came together on jumping and bumped, with both runners becoming unbalanced.

On jumping, OTTAVINO pulled its off hind plate.

Shortly after the start, NOBLE LIE momentarily shifted in, obliging RUBY HAZE to be steadied.

Approaching the 700m. both STELLINA BELLE and RUBY HAZE came together and bumped.

Near the 200m., PREMEDITATE, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out away from WILLOW PARK.

Race 2: Trentham No more than 2MW H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Nessuno 2nd - Lion Safari 3rd - Danefull 4th - Mr Hoover

As B. Dieckmann was ill, T. Pannel was substituted as the rider of LION SAFARI and G. McKeon as the rider of DANZARENA (Race 2).

LION SAFARI and WIDE AWAKE came together and bumped at the start.

Between the 800m. and 700m., WIDE AWAKE became awkward on the heels of OURS when overracing and was steadied.

Near the 600m., CAPANNELLE bumped the running rail.

On straightening, LION SAFARI momentarily steadied from the heels of MR HOOVER, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of MR HOOVER revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which MR HOOVER had bled, the gelding was barred from racing in Australia.

Race 3: Awapuni 3yo & up E & G Maiden H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Splendid Sails 2nd - Contemporary 3rd - Welsh Dragon 4th - Montechoro

DEFEND THE HILL was withdrawn at 11.33 a.m. on veterinary advice after the gelding suffered an injury en route to the course.

Due to a racebook error, C. Spry was shown as the rider of OUSTING when M. Carson was in fact the rider of that gelding.

Prior to proceeding to the barriers, VENTURADO dislodged its off fore plate and was subsequently reshod.

Prior to being loaded, DANZARENA balked at proceeding to the barriers, and after considerable effort was loaded, causing the race to run late.

On jumping, DANZARENA was slow to begin, then shortly after began to overrace, shifted in abruptly and then commenced to race erratically for some considerable distance. Trainer L. Kelly was advised that DANZARENA must perform in an official trial to the stewards' satisfaction for both barrier and racing manners.

GOTHEHOLEHOG and WELSH DRAGON were crowded at the start when both GUN CARRIAGE and VENTURADO shifted ground, resulting in GOTHEHOLEHOLG and WELSH DRAGON losing ground.

Approaching the 1000m., WELSH DRAGON was obliged to shift out away from the heels of DANZARENA.

On the crossing at the 600m., MCCOOLHA became awkward when racing to the inside of VENTURADO and lost ground. As a consequence, GOTHEHOLEHOG shifted out and brushed MONTECHORO.

Jockey A. Best reported that his saddle shifted back on GOTHEHOLEHOG nearing the 600m..

CONTEMPORARY, KING OF COOL and BOSS BEAR were all obliged to race wide throughout.

Race 4: Avondale No more than 1MW H'cap - 1600m.
1st - Planagram 2nd - King Latarmiss 3rd - Tele Series 4th - Active Combat

TELE SERIES was hampered on jumping away between ADILLO ADILLO and ACTIVE COMBAT, which shifted out.

ACTIVE COMBAT raced ungenerously in the early stages.

C. Whiteley, rider of QUITE ASTUTE, was instructed to exercise more care after shifting out rounding the home turn, obliging KING LATARMISS to be steadied.

The saddle on PLANAGRAM shifted forward approaching the 1000m., placed apprentice B. Hull at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Race 5: Riccarton Class 6 H'cap - 1400m.
1st - Key Of Gold 2nd - Wolfman 3rd - Sound Waves 4th - Monte Cavallo

A pre-race swab sample was taken from SOUND WAVES.

Due to transport difficulties, HEART OF LIGHT was presented late on course. Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer W. Ingram.

ARGENTERIE was slow to begin.

FINAL DEMAND began to overrace during the early and middle stages, and when attempting to restrain near the 1000m., momentarily hampered MONTE CAVALLO, which was following.

Approaching the 900m., FINAL DEMAND was obliged to race 3 wide when WOLFMAN shifted out, and shortly after this, MONTE CAVALLO became awkward on the heels of FINAL DEMAND for a short distance.

FINAL DEMAND underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a higher than normal heart rate and was suffering from heat stress.

MONTE CAVALLO dislodged its off fore plate during running.

Race 6: Ellerslie Open H'cap - 2129m.
1st - Chinbok 2nd - Rue The Saint 3rd - Bush Triumph 4th - Enabler

As J. McKinnon was injured, G. McKeon was substituted as the rider of RUE THE SAINT, and K. Cunningham was the rider of RUMOUR MILL (Race 7).

Trainer R. Balcombe was fined $100 for the late declaration of A. Best as the rider of CHINBOK.

CHINBOK jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

FINNIGAN, which was slow to begin, was then shortly crowded along with VICTORY RANGER when LISTEN PAL and WINSOME LOOT both shifted ground.

Shortly after leaving the winning post on the first occasion, RUE THE SAINT lay in away from VICTORY RANGER, resulting in BUSH TRIUMPH being crowded and having to be steadied. At the same stage, ENABLER momentarily shifted in away from WINSOME LOOT, crowding CHINBOK on to VICTORY RANGER. S. Galloway, rider of ENABLER, was requested to exercise more care when in a similar situation in future.

Approaching the 1600m., VICTORY RANGER became unbalanced when racing to the inside of CHINBOK, which was taken in slightly by ENABLER. S. Galloway, rider of ENABLER, was unable to relieve the pressure due to P. Hammersley, rider of GLEN MONARCH, taking up a position to the outside of ENABLER. Both S. Galloway and P. Hammersley were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

Passing the 1300m., RUE THE SAINT was obliged to race in a 3 wide position.

Near the 100m., CHINBOK, which was under pressure, momentarily shifted in, obliging A. Best to stop and straighten.

Race 7: Woodville Class 6 H'cap - 1000m.
1st - Noble Gent 2nd - San Franfrisco 3rd - Gloucester Road 4th - Armament

Trainer B. Brown was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare Z. Purton as the rider of ARMAMENT by the prescribed time.

PARALO was a late scratching at the barriers at 4.08 p.m. on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on PARALO were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of .12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer D. Gollan was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for PARALO prior to its next race start.

ALLY BEE, which slipped over in the enclosure, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

ARMAMENT and SAN FRANFRISCO came together at the start and bumped.

NOBLE GENT shifted in shortly after the start, momentarily crowding IN THE JUNGLE, which was eased and lost ground.

Race 8: Te Rapa NMW H'cap - 1300m.
1st - Rock Of Mufasa 2nd - Cut Of Diamonds 3rd - Regimental 4th - Mr. Ballistic

APPLEBY, which struck its off side stifle when proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

Approaching the 700m., MR. BALLISTIC, which began to overrace, had to be steadied off the heels of CUT OF DIAMONDS, shifted in and hampered RETIRE.

C. Spry, rider of CUT OF DIAMONDS, dropped his whip near the 200m..
