She indicated that this may have had some bearing on the disappointing performance of the filly.

Purton), resulting in WITH MY having to be checked and being taken out on to AU CHOCOLAT (A. Pattillo). D. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of AFRAAH, however at the time of examination no abnormalities were detected. A swab sample was ordered to be taken from AFRAAH. The trainer's representative will be interviewed at a later date as to the performance.
An inquiry was opened into the riding tactics of WESTERN BEAU in leading today as opposed to the horse's previous starts where it had been ridden back in the field. Trainer M. Conners' representative, Mr C. Conners, advised stewards that S. Katsidis had been instructed to ride the horse 5th or 6th just off the pace. S. Katsidis explained that he had intended to ride the horse with cover just off the pace and had not intended leading, however when unable to obtain a position closer to the rails in the early stages, he allowed WESTERN BEAU to slide forward intending to gain cover from horses out wide going forward and crossing him. He added that runners coming across from out wide did not cross him and he was subsequently left in front and the horse then raced ungenerously and had a tendency to lay out after leaving the 1000m. A veterinary examination of WESTERN BEAU revealed no abnormalities. Mr Conners did indicate that the horse may not have been comfortable racing with the blinkers, as on a previous occasion the horse had raced similarly when placed on the rails in the Hobartville Stakes. After considering all evidence, the explanation was noted.
