SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
Due to a back injury, G. Colless was unable to fulfil his riding engagements and was replaced as per the raceday summary sheet.
As A. Pattillo was ill, riding replacements were made as per the raceday summary sheet.
As C. Whiteley was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the raceday summary sheet.
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into N. Jolly's behaviour at the scales when weighing out for Race 8 following a complaint from Clerk of Scales, Mr P. Mullen.
Race 1: CLUB CONRAD 0MW LY H'CAP – 1000M
1st – Unite And Prosper 2nd – Poetic Papal 3rd – Slick Operator 4th – Katabatic
DELLWOOD DANCER was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to run.
Apprentice B. Hull was fined $500 under AR. 92(12) for failing to claim his full allowance on LEGCAPA. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account B. Hull's recent poor record of failing to claim his full allowance.
LEGCAPA (B. Hull) jumped away awkwardly.
GRAND FILANTE (B. El-Issa) was tightened at the start between BREAKFAST TALK (C. Munce) and CRYSTAL LANE (J. Byrne).
Near the 650m LEGCAPA had to be eased to avoid the heels of GRANDE FILANTE which shifted in.
Approaching the finishing line CRYSTAL LANE was tightened for room between ABDULLAH (A. Darmanin) and LEGCAPA, which was inclined to shift out.
GRAND FILANTE was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse had haemorrhaged from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the horse had bled, in accordance with AR. 53A, GRAND FILANTE is not permitted to race for a period of three months.
When questioned as to the somewhat disappointing performance of ABDULLAH, apprentice A. Darmanin stated that the horse did not jump as well as it normally does and was then inclined to lay out throughout the event. Trainer J. Conlan agreed that the performance was disappointing and he indicated that the horse's campaign in Queensland may be reviewed. A veterinary examination of ABDULLAH revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2: CAFÉ 21 CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1820M
1st – Last Claim 2nd – Very Canny 3rd – Maizy May (DH) 4th – Fastness (DH)
FASTNESS was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to run.
PRESS (D. Nikolic) was slow to jump.
Near the 1600m LAST CLAIM (N. Harris) was inclined to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of MAIZY MAY (G. Palmer).
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of BOSWORTH FIELD, trainer S. Dwyer reported that the horse had had a setback in this preparation and he felt that it may not have been suited by the pattern of the race today. A veterinary examination of BOSWORTH FIELD revealed no abnormalities.
Race 3: QRSE SIR DOUGLAS WADLEY QTIS H'CAP – 1200M
1st – Nova Star 2nd – Timeless Miss 3rd – Florenza 4th – Nik Nak Noee
NIK NAK NOEE (B. Stewart) jumped in at the start tightening NO MISTAKE (B. Fenech) on to AMARAZETTI (G. Lynch). A short distance later NO MISTAKE then shifted out across the heels of NIK NAK NOEE.
NASRULLAH'S GIRL (G. Boss) and REAL SMART (B. El-Issa) came together on jumping away.
Passing the 1000m NASRULLAH'S GIRL raced ungenerously when in restricted room between STREET SMART (J. Byrne) and LA MONTAGNA (M. Cahill). When racing ungenerously, the horse got its head up and shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of STREET SMART.
Approaching the 800m NIK NAK NOEE commenced to pull hard and shifted out off the heels of FLORENZA (N. Jolly) and made contact with STREET SMART. A short distance later NIK NAK NOEE, when continuing to overrace, shifted out and made heavy contact with LA MONTAGNA (M. Cahill) which resulted in NIK NAK NOEE becoming unbalanced and shifting back towards the rails, tightening AMARAZETTI.
R. Stewart, the rider of BELLACHENKA, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 700m when not clear of REAL SMART, resulting in that horse having to be eased to avoid heels.
Approaching the 500m AMARAZETTI, which had improved on to the heels of NIK NAK NOEE, shifted out, causing STREET SMART to be inconvenienced.
Leaving the 200m WHATYOUDOIN (B. Shinn) and FLION FENENA (L. Cassidy) were tightened between ACCELERATION (D. Nikolic), which shifted in under pressure, and WELCOME SITE (P. Hammersley), which shifted out.
Race 4: LIVEWIRE BAR QTIS H'CAP – 1200M
1st – Florilegium 2nd – Persuades 3rd – Fond Kiss 4th – Suubird
Trainer E. Ropiha failed to notify M. Cahill as the rider of MILLIMAC by the prescribed time. Following an explanation from Mr Ropiha, no action was taken.
LADY LONGUEVILLE, which was kicked behind the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to run.
IFLOOXCOULDKILL (S. Seamer) and DECIBEEL (J. Byrne) came together at the start.
TIVOLI DANCER (D. Ballard) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with LUST IN SPACE (B. El-Issa).
Race 5: QRSE MARCO POLO H'CAP – 1600M
1st – Spirit Of Tara 2nd – Dezigna 3rd – Tui Song 4th – Desert Flight
Trainer P. Jenkins failed to notify A. Pattillo as the rider of DESERT FLIGHT by the prescribed time. However, when A. Pattillo became ill, he was replaced by C. Munce. Following an explanation from Mr Jenkins, no action was taken.
DEUXIEME (B. Stewart) and TUI SONG (D. Nikolic) missed the start.
TUI SONG was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
M. Cahill, the rider of DEZIGNA, accidentally dropped his whip near the 250m.
BUSH HONEY was forced to race wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of BUSH HONEY revealed that the horse was short in its action in the offside foreleg.
Apprentice B. Shinn, the rider of DOONAN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of WISHART (C. Spry), which was taken in on to STEP AHEAD (B. El-Issa), resulting in that horse having to be checked and forced in on to the running rail. B. Shinn's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the period to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 15 June, and expire at midnight on Friday, 1 July 2005. In addition, B. Shinn was fined the sum of $1,000. B. Shinn was severely reprimanded for improper conduct leaving the stewards' inquiry.
Race 6: THE RACETREE T.J. SMITH – 1600M
1st – Darci Brahma 2nd – Ready As 3rd – Daemons 4th – Le Celibataire
NABIRAZ (T. Treichel) was tightened and DAEMONS (B. Shinn) lost its position as a result of tightening at the start when FOOLISH (G. Lynch), which shifted out slightly, and TESTAFIABLE (L. Nolen) which shifted in.
UPILIO (B. Stewart) and DARCI BRAHMA (S. Seamer) were tightened for room on jumping away between NEHEMIAH (D. Nikolic) and READY AS (H. Bowman) which shifted inwards.
JUST THE STAR (C. Munce) was caught four wide in the early stages and then raced three wide for the remainder of the event.
TESTAFIABLE overraced in the early and middle stages.
UPILIO (B. Stewart) was inclined to overrace in the middle stages.
Rounding the home turn UPILIO (B. Stewart) shifted out to improve and bumped NEHEMIAH (D. Nikolic) which was racing greenly.
DAEMONS was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Close to the finishing line TESTAFIABLE and FOOLISH were cramped for room by DAEMONS, which shifted in to take a run to the inside of LE CELIBATAIRE (B. El-Issa).
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that KATSIDIS sustained a laceration to the inside of the near hind above the hock.
Race 7: BRISBANE TREASURY BRISBANE CUP – 3200M
1st – Portland Singa 2nd – Shamrock Shore 3rd – Regal Punch 4th – Pantani
D. Nikolic, the rider of PACIFIC DANCER, was fined $200 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR. 118A of changing his boots after weighing out.
SUNRAYSIA (A. Darmanin) was slow to jump.
WALTERMITTY (T. Treichel) jumped away awkwardly.
A. Best, the rider of CHINBOK, was charged with careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 3000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PANTANI (J. Byrne), resulting in PANTANI being forced in on to DANASRI (B. Shinn), which was taken in on to PACIFIC DANCER, which had to be checked. Following an application by A. Best, the matter was adjourned until one hour before the first race at the BTC meeting on Wednesday, 15 June to enable A. Best to present his defence.
Approaching the 2900m ZABEAT (N. Harris) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CHINBOK which shifted in.
SHAMROCK SHORE (R. Stewart) was caught wide and obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 2600m WHO DEALT THIS (L. Morrison) had to be steadied off the heels of DANASRI (B. Shinn) which was taken in momentarily by SHAMROCK SHORE.
Near the 2500m WHO DEALT THIS, which commenced to pull hard when the pace eased, had to be checked off the heels of DANASRI and shifted out on to PACIFIC DANCER, causing that horse to be checked and taken wider on the track. COUNTY TYRONE (G. Boss), which was racing to the outside of PACIFIC DANCER, also had to be checked and was forced wider on the track.
Near the 2400m WALTERMITTY, which was racing ungenerously, had to be checked when tightened for room by PACIFIC DANCER which was taken in by WHO DEALT THIS which, when overracing, shifted in slightly.
DANASRI broke down leaving the 2100m. A veterinary examination revealed that the horse had fractured its off humerus, and it was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
After leaving the winning post on the first occasion WALTERMITTY got its head up and raced ungenerously and had to be checked off the heels of PACIFIC DANCER.
Passing the 1800m FILANTE ETOILE (S. Seamer) improved on to the heels of CHINBOK (A. Best) and had to be steadied.
Near the 1000m FAMOUS DANE (B. El-Issa) ran up on to the heels of EMPYREAL (L. Cropp) and had to be steadied.
Near the 500m PACIFIC DANCER, when commencing to improve into the race, had to be severely checked off the heels of the tiring WALTERMITTY. PACIFIC DANCER then shifted out and made contact with ZINGAM (H. Bowman).
Near the 200m EMPYREAL shifted out and made contact with FAMOUS DANE.
Stewards intend to interview L. Cassidy in regard to a celebratory gesture on PORTLAND SINGA prior to the winning post.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that WALTERMITTY, which compounded, was suffering an irregularity with its heart. Following a recommendation from the Club's veterinary surgeon, stewards ordered that the results of an ECG be provided to the stewards, and the horse must trial satisfactorily before racing again.
Race 8: CASINO REWARDS NO MORE THAN 1MW LY H'CAP – 1300M
1st – Mitanni 2nd – River To The Sea 3rd – Lamond 4th – Prince Of Ashes
J. Byrne was examined by the Club's medical officer following his ride on PANTANI in Race 7 and passed fit to take his ride in this event.
DANE FEVER (B. Shinn) jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with MITANNI (G. McKeon). As a result of this, MITANNI shifted out, tightening SPEEDIE GONZALES (M. Cahill), BUCKLE MY SHOE (L. Cassidy) and GENERALISSIMO (N. Jolly), which had to be checked off the heels of AWESOME WARRIOR (A. Darmanin).
After passing the 1100m, when being steadied off the heels of LAMOND (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly, LIL ELSA (S. Seamer) commenced to overrace and shifted in making contact with NATALE (G. Boss). LIL ELSA continued to overrace and shifted out, having to be checked off the heels of PRINCE OF ASHES (B. Stewart). NATALE then became unbalanced when racing inside of PRINCE OF ASHES.
Approaching the 900m LIL ELSA got its head up when being steadied to avoid the heels of BUCKLE MY SHOE, which shifted in. L. Cassidy, the rider of BUCKLE MY SHOE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
After passing the 800m the saddle on SHOCKEROO shifted forward, placing rider R. McMahon at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
AWESOME WARRIOR and DANE FEVER were obliged to race wide throughout.
ALL WINNERS, READY AS, SHAMROCK SHORE AND REGAL PUNCH WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
