Race 1: XXXX GOLD 2MW LY H’CAP – 2115M
1st - Hofmeister 2nd - Pentathon 3rd – Sir Coup 4th – Very Canny

ABU SIMBEL (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion DEVASTATING (R. McMahon) had to be steadied off the heels of SIR COUP (C. Williams).

Near the 1900m BUGATTI ROYALE (C. Newitt) shifted in and bumped MY CHINESE KING (G. Colless).

Passing the 1500m TAIKOREA (J. Byrne), which was overracing, shifted out, forcing VERY CANNY (T. Pannell) wider for a short distance.

SPINNING CON (J. Holder) was forced to race wide in the early stages.

Approaching the 500m FOREST PRIDE (Z. Purton) ran up on to the heels of HOFMEISER (M. Zahra) and had to be steadied.

Race 2: SEPPELT WINE 2MW H’CAP – 1500M
1st - Partridge 2nd – Tycoon 3rd - Mesmerising 4th –King Of Soul

Following a shower of rain just prior to the running of Race 2, the track was downgraded to DEAD after the running of the event.

Passing the 1200m PARTY EXPRESS (J. Taylor), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of TYCOON ROSE (J. Byrne).

LOUGHNAN (D. Nikolic) raced wide throughout.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that LISTEN PAL sustained a small laceration to the outside of the off foreleg.

Race 3: WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1200M
1st - Becks 2nd – Court Adjourned 3rd – General Patton 4th - Buzz

MYSTIKOS (D. Beadman) was forced to race wide in the early stages.

CHASIN’ TAIL (R. Mason) was forced to race wide throughout.

R. Mason, the rider of CHASIN’ TAIL, accidentally dropped her whip near the 300m.

When questioned regarding the performance of MYSTIKOS, jockey D. Beadman stated that the mare was up in grade today and when they quickened near the 400m the mare was not comfortable in today’s prevailing track conditions. His explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of MYSTIKOS failed to reveal any abnormalities. MYSTIKOS lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL SIR DOUGLAS WADLEY QTIS – 1200M
1st - Astounded 2nd – Angel Girl 3rd – Simply Fantastic 4th – Diamonds Am I

SWEET AS (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

On jumping away MASERARDI (J. Bowditch), which was a little slow to begin, shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of PREY FOR PEACE (R. Mason). A short distance later MASERARDI was crowded for room beween PREY FOR PEACE and GLORIFICATION (A. Pattillo) which shifted out.

LUNA PRIDE (C. Spry), PIRATE QUEEN (G. Colless), PLACHUTTA (S. Seamer), VELVET VIBE (R. McMahon) and GLORIFICATION were all forced to race wide throughout.

CHARMANA STAR (J. Byrne) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

Near the 800m SWEET AS, which was inclined to shift out, had to be steadied off the heels of SIMPLY FANTASTIC (K. Forrester).

Approaching the 600m crossing, TELESTAH LA VISTAH (R. Plumb) improved on to the heels of SWEET AS.

PREY FOR PEACE was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that PIRATE QUEEN had been galloped on on the off hind leg.



Race 5: MYER QTC LIGHTNING H’CAP – 1000M
1st - Starlactic 2nd - Imprisoned 3rd – Helter Skelter 4th – Miss Mooney Mooney

ANY SUGGESTION (B. Pengelly) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start A LITTLE NAUGHTY (S. Seamer) commenced to hang out and soon after straightening had to be steadied off the heels of ANY SUGGESTION. A LITTLE NAUGHTY continued to shift out, taking STEP RIGHT IN (J. Bowditch) out on to KING REX (M. Cahill), which in turn shifted out and bumped ZOE’S LAD (A. Pattillo). SO CHIC (J. Byrne), which was following, also had to be steadied.

Approaching the 600m crossing FLUFFY DUCK (C. Williams) had to be steadied when tightened for room between ZOE’S LAD and SO CHIC which shifted out slightly.

Race 6: BMW QUEENSLAND DERBY – 2400M
1st – Ice Chariot 2nd – Cape Breton 3rd – Loanhead 4th - Sculptor

On jumping away SCATTERGUN (S. King) was tightened for room between MASTER DENIS (G. Colless) and LOANHEAD (L. Nolen) which shifted in.

Shortly after the start BIG EAGLE (D. Nikolic) and SCULPTOR (C. Johnson) were forced to race in restricted room between OUR ROMAN CHARIOT (M. Rodd), which shifted out slightly, and ALLOW (S. Katsidis) which shifted in.

Approaching the 2100m BIG EAGLE, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and made contact with ICE CHARIOT (G. Lynch). BIG EAGLE then continued to race ungenerously for the majority of the event.

Passing the 2100m TEPPANYAKI (J. Holder), TIME AND DANDY (J. Bowditch) and LATINO (A. Pattillo) were all forced to race in restricted room to the inside of JUST GRAND (H. Bowman). In this incident TEPPANYAKI became unbalanced. H. Bowman was reprimanded.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BELMONTE (Z. Purton) commenced to overrace and did so for some distance.

SCATTERGUN was forced to race wide in the early stages.

SCULPTOR was forced to race wide throughout.

Approaching the 1000m ALLOW was momentarily inconvenienced by TEPPANYAKI.

Near the 700m BIG EAGLE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MASTER DENIS which shifted back in. G. Colless, the rider of MASTER DENIS, was reprimanded.

Approaching the 600m SLIM PICKINGS (J. Warrington), which was weakening, had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between ICE CHARIOT, which shifted in slightly, and ALLOW, which shifted out.

Approaching the 450m CAPE BRETON (C. Williams) shifted out to improve, taking VISION AND POWER (M. Zahra) out on to BIG EAGLE.

ICE CHARIOT shifted ground under pressure over the concluding stages.

Passing the 100m ALLLOW was obliged to alter course inwards off the heels of BELMONTE to obtain clear running.

Race 7: AAMI STRADBROKE H’CAP – 1400M
1st – La Montagna 2nd – Gee I Jane 3rd – Cog Hill 4th – Magic Marvo

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer L. Kelly to remove the bar plates from BLACK INK after the track had become rain-affected.

MESSIAEN (J. Holder) was slow to begin.

STREET SMART (M. Palmer) jumped away awkwardly.

YELL (T. Pannell) jumped in at the start and made contact SHANIA DANE (D. Beadman).

Shortly after the start CONSULAR (Z. Purton) and COG HILL were forced to race in restricted room between MISS POTENTIAL (C. Johnson) and LA MONTAGNA C. Newitt. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this incident.

Approaching the 1000m YELL (T. Pannell) ran up on to the heels of SHANIA DANE (D. Beadman), striking the heels and blundering.

Approaching the 1000m STAR SHIRAZ (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between ST. BASIL (M. Cahill) and DAUNTING LAD (A. Pattillo) which was inclined to lay in slightly after receiving pressure from MESSIAEN, which was taken in slightly by LA SIZERANNE (C. Williams)

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into interference suffered by ST. BASIL and DAUNTING LAD near the 900m.

GEE I JANE (S. Seamer), LA MONTAGNA, MISS POTENTIAL and LA SIZERANNE raced wide throughout.

Passing the 300m HARD TO CATCH (J. Bowditch) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of OUTBACK PRINCE (D. Nikolic) which shifted out.

Apprentice K. O’Hara, the rider of MEDIA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 250m she permitted her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of RED OOG (H. Bowman), resulting in that horse having to be checked when tightened for room between HARD TO CATCH (J. Bowditch) and MEDIA. K. O’Hara’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday, 16 June, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 1 July 2006. In addition, K. O’Hara was fined $1,000.

A charge against C. Newitt, the rider of LA MONTAGNA, under AR. 137(c) of making a celebratory gesture prior to the finishing line was adjourned until Monday, 12 June 2006, when C. Newitt sought to obtain a copy of the photo finish print.

LA MONTAGNA bled from one nostril. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that the filly must gallop over 1000 metres prior to her next start.

Race 8: EMIRATES AIRLINE PLATE QTIS H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Dulacca Diva 2nd - Accardo 3rd – Sea Chain 4th – Feelin Dandy

DAWN’S PRIDE (D. Nikolic) was slow to begin.

PICABELLE (B. Pengelly) jumped in at the start and made contact with SINGLE ROSE.

EMIT TIME (J. Byrne) and SINGLE ROSE (M. Rodd) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Jockey C. Newitt, the rider of 5th placegetter FABIARNA, was found guilty of a charge under AR. 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race and fined $2,000. In assessing penalty, stewards were of the opinion that C. Newitt’s failure to ride his mount out to the end of the race had cost him 4th place given the short half head margin.

When questioned regarding the performance of ANCA, D. Beadman stated that the horse was not comfortable in today’s prevailing track conditions.
