SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Apprentice jockey R. Mason was fined $100 for failing to present apprentice win book.
Race 1: Essa Stone Quartz Surfaces QTIS 3yo Class 6 H’cap – 1500m
1st – Mellifluous 2nd – Femmebot 3rd – Athena Mana Mou 4th – Playground Express
EXORBITANT (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.
WAY OF THE WORLD (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 1200m, CAPTAIN BIGGLES (S. Seamer), which had been racing wide, overaced and had to be checked off the heels of IRISH JOY (S. Drake), which was also racing wide. IRISH JOY and CAPTAIN BIGGLES were then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
At the 1000m, PLAYGROUND EXPRESS (R. McMahon) improved onto and clipped the heels of KARALEE (R. Plumb). In this incident, EXORBITANT (J. Holder) was also inclined to race fiercely when the pace eased approaching the first turn.
Near the 1000m, MELLIFLUOUS (N. Tomizawa), which was racing fiercely, improved inside the heels of ATHENA MANA MOU (J. Bowditch) and shifted in and made contact with PLAYGROUND EXPRESS (R. McMahon). MELLIFLUOUS then shifted out, taking EXORBITANT (J. Holder) out on to CAPTAIN BIGGLES (S. Seamer), forcing that horse wider. CAPTAIN BIGGLES then raced 4 wide for the remainder of the event.
Passing the 500m, MELLIFLUOUS (N. Tomizawa) shifted out, forcing the tiring IRISH JOY (S. Drake) out on to WAY OF THE WORLD (K. Forrester), causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Race 2: Euroline Stone Class 6 H’cap – 2200m
1st – Emgee Rex 2nd – Daneland 3rd – Santi 4th – Darkside Lass
SHINGLE PEAK (B. Pengelly), which jumped away awkwardly, was tightened shortly after the start between KING LATARMISS (A. Robinson) and DARKSIDE LASS (R. McMahon), which was taken out by EMGEE REX (M. Carson).
When restrained to take a trail leaving the 1800m, BIG MICK (R. Plumb) got its head up and raced ungenerously. The horse continued to race ungenerously for some distance.
SHINGLE PEAK was obliged to race wide rounding the home turn.
Near the 250m, DANELAND shifted ground under pressure and bumped EMGEE REX.
Nearing the finish line, KING LATARMISS was cramped for room between SANTI (J. Bowditch) and DARKSIDE LASS, both of which shifted ground.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PAPPAPO, M. Radecker stated that the horse did not respond to her riding today as anticipated. Trainer P. Duff agreed that the horse’s run today was somewhat disappointing and that he would monitor the gelding’s recovery. Mr Duff added that he felt PAPPAPO may be coming to the end of its current preparation.
B. Pengelly was questioned regarding the performance of SHINGLE PEAK, B. Pengelly stated that after missing the start he elected to move to the rails in an effort to save ground, however the horse did not appear comfortable racing on the rails due to the slow pace. He added that whilst he did progress forward at the 700m the horse was placed wide around the home turn and he was of the opinion that SHINGLE PEAK was not suited by today’s race pattern.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BIG MICK, trainer’s representative Mr Hill stated the fact that the gelding overraced and refused to settle had affected the performance of BIG MICK. BIG MICK was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported and a swab sample was taken.
A post race veterinary examination of AQUA D’OR revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the off hind leg.
Race 3: Paramount Industries F&M NMW H’cap – 1000m
1st – Hayil Lee Bee 2nd – Momentously 3rd – Shandi Belle 4th – Regal Megan
OH RUBY was declared a late scratching at 11.30 a.m. due to transport difficulties.
Near the 450m, WATAPEN (K. Forrester) had to be steadied when cramped for room between SEQUACY (J. Holder) and CIELO GOLD (S. Drake), which was taken out slightly by BIRDS AND BEEZ (B. Stewart). As a result of this incident, WATAPEN then shifted back towards the inside, however was not fully clear of COUNTRY PACK (B. Payne), resulting in COUNTRY PACK having to be steadied. Both B. Stewart, rider of BIRDS AND BEEZ, and K. Forrester, rider of WATAPEN, were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Leaving the 400m, CIELO GOLD was cramped for room between SEQUACY ((J. Holder) and BIRDS AND THE BEEZ, which shifted out slightly.
BIRDS AND THE BEEZ bled from both nostrils during the event. The filly will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CIELO GOLD, trainer A. Bailey stated that the horse may not have backed up today since its last run 7 days ago. He also indicated that the racing future of CIELO GOLD is under review. A post race veterinary examination of CIELO GOLD failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: Easycraft Innovative Wall Linings CG&E NMW H’cap - 1000 .
1st – Primal Impulse 2nd – Red Hot Pistol 3rd – Commander Monash 4th – Broadway Venture
BROADWATY VENTURE (R. Plumb) jumped outwards at the start and brushed JEBSEN CHAMPION (R. McMahon).
Near the 200m, SERENE BEAU (J. Bowditch) had to be checked when tightened for room between RED HOT PISTOL (J. Holder), which shifted in slightly, and BLOODSTONE (G. Colless), which shifted out and away from COMMANDER MONASH (K. Pope). Both G. Colless, rider of BLOODSTONE, and K. Pope, rider of COMMANDER MONASH, were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RED HOT PISTOL (J. Holder) shifted ground under pressure over the concluding stage and brushed PRIMAL IMPULSE (S. Seamer).
On the finish line, RED HOT PISTOL attempted to savage PRIMAL IMPULSE. The behaviour of RED HOT PISTOL was drawn to the attention of trainer D. Peoples, who indicated that he would experiment with gear changes in an effort to overcome this habit.
Following the announcement of correct weight, the Clerk of Scales, Mr R. Brown informed stewards that the Judge had mistakenly placed SERENE BEAU 5th and BORROLOOLA LAD 6th. Howeveer after correct weight was declared he noticed that JEBSEN CHAMPION had finished in 5th placing and SERENE BEAU 6th. In accordance with AR156(3), the stewards corrected the Judge’s mistake and altered the placings to JEBSEN CHAMPION 5th and SERENE BEAU 6th.
Race 5:Handyform Handycut 1MW H’cap – 1500m
1st – General Sam 2nd – Charvicky 3rd – Phoenix Express 4th – Regimental
BUZZ (M. Radecker) was slow to begin.
FORT CUSTOM (S. Seamer) jumped outwards at the start and bumped BIG KEA (S. Drake) out on to CHARVICKY (A. Robinson).
When the pace slowed near the 1200m, BIG KEA got its head up and commenced to race ungenerously and shifted wider on the track. BIG KEA was then trapped 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Also near the 1200m, CHARVICKY and REGIMENTAL (K. Pope) were inclined to pull hard.
CHARVICKY was held up for clear running on the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
MR HORNBLOWER (R. Plumb) was held up momentarily held up when disappointed for a run to the inside of BIG KEA (S. Drake) near the 300m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FORT CUSTOM, S. Seamer stated that he had the horse positioned closer to the lead today as a result of the horse drawing an inside barrier. He added that when asked for an effort on straightening, FORT CUSTOM did not respond to his riding as anticiapted. Trainer B. Laming was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to his notice that may have had a bearing on the performance.
Race 6: The Laminex Group H’cap – 1300m
1st – Silent Song 2nd – Anca 3rd – Street Smart 4th – Love And Money
At the 400m, STREET SMART (P. Wolfgram) shifted out to improve and made contact with FRISCO’S HAREM (B. Stewart). A short distance later, both horses again came into contact, and near the 350m, TYCOON ROSE (N. Thomas) and FRISCO’S LASS (A. Robinson) had to be checked when racing between MILADY CLANG (M. Radecker) and FRISCO’S HAREM, which shifted out away from STREET SMART (P. Wolfgram). After considering the evidence and viewing the film, both P. Wolfgram, rider of STREET SMART, and B. Stewart, rider of FRISCO’S HAREM, were severely reprimanded and advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in future.
In relation to the disappointing performance of ROCK ON BYE, Trainer K. Wood reported that, in his opinion, the horse may not have backed up since its last run on Saturday, 9 September.
A post race veterinary examination of SILENT SONG revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg.
Race 7: Hettich Australia H’cap – 1200m
1st – Naval Seal 2nd – Serenote 3rd – Doonan Dancer 4th - Prosecution
DOONAN DANCER (K. Forrester) shifted out on jumping away, tightening BOY’S TALK (B. Stewart) and DIURNAL (R. McMahon).
Approaching the 1000m, SURE BET (R. Robinson) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CEFFYL (K. Pope), which was taken in by GENERAL PATTON (J. Bowditch). J. Bowditch, rider of GENERAL PATTON, was cautioned and instructed to provide more room to runners on his inside in future.
PROSECUTION (C. Spry) was caught 3 wide early and was obliged to race 3 wide throughout.
Jockey A. Robinson was fined $100 for changing boots after weighing out. AR118(a)
Race 8: Readikits Class 6 Plate – 1300m
1st – Clevergaze 2nd – Spur Me On 3rd – Fun Love 4th – Frisco’s Vision
Nearing the home turn, HAMAH (M. Radecker) shifted out to improve and brushed the hind quarters of WILLY LEICA (G. Colless).
MAMELUKE (T. Pannell) was inclined to lay in rounding the home turn and in the run to the finish.
A post race veterinary examination of WILLY LEICA revealed the gelding to be sore in the hind quarters region. Mr Bailey was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for WILLY LEICA prior to its next race start. Mr Bailey also undertook to trial WILLY LEICA prior to its next race start.
