Race 1: LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION OF QUEENSLAND QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Voodoo Brown Magic 2nd – Feline Hunter 3rd – Tripitz 4th - Asaarfa
SKILSHARE (J. Taylor), VOODOO BROWN MAGIC (B. Pengelly) and HESITATES (T. Pannell) were slow to begin.
Passing the 700m ASAARFA (J. Bowditch), which commenced to lay out, shifted out taking TRIPITZ (P. Spry) out on to MURANA (K. Pope).
MURANA and CABLEMAN (M. Price) were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 600m VOODOO BROWN MAGIC, which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of FELINE HUNTER (R. Plumb).
Passing the 400m HESITATES improved quickly on to the heels of HOWATCH (S. Seamer) and shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing MURANA.
CABLEMAN laid in for the majority of the straight.
SKILSHARE raced greenly in the straight.
Jockey P. Wolfgram, the rider of REALANTE, was fined $100 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(2)(b) of using an excessive amount of whip on a horse out of contention.
Race 2: ISOFT 0MW H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Likazyrtec 2nd – Polar Wolf 3rd – Oh Ruby 4th – Hamah
MISTER DE BALI, which reared over in the barriers, was a late scratching at 1 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invesed on MISTER DE BALI be refunded in full, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets to apply. Trainer T. Harden was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for MISTER DE BALI before it races again.
HAMAH (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m MIGHTY MIRAGE (R. Plumb) had to be steadied when tightened for room between MEANMA (M. Morris) and CHANCE BAY (L. Morrison) which was laying in after receiving pressure from JUNK BOND (M. Radecker), which shifted in slightly. Apprentice M. Radecker was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) and advised to afford riders the room to which they are entitled.
JUNK BOND and MIGHTY MIRAGE were forced to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 600m NORTHERN GAME (S. Galloway), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of CITICO (J. Bowditch).
Near the 300m LIKAZYRTEC (K. Forrester) ran up on to the heels of POLAR WOLF (M. Palmer) and shifted out inconveniencing CHANCE BAY. Jockey K. Forrester was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
A post-race veterinary examination of DUHAABA revealed that the gelding had quartered the outside of the off heel.
Race 3: BENDIGO BANK COMMUNITY SECTOR BANKING QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Sweet As 2nd – Blue Fox 3rd - Femmebot 4th – Van Rooyen
PEGASUS PRIDE (S. Galloway) and FEMMEBOT (B. Stewart) came together on jumping away.
FOUR IN HAND (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1400m VAN ROOYEN (K. Forrester) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FEMMEBOT which shifted in. B. Stewart was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 1200m PEGASUS PRIDE, which was overracing, shifted in slightly and made contact with VAN ROOYEN. VAN ROOYEN then shifted in and bumped SCREEN SIREN (G. Colless) which as a result became unbalanced, shifted in and made contact with the running rail, losing ground.
Passing the 1200m SMILEY (T. Pannell) commenced to overrace.
EYE EYE SILVER (N. Thomas) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
PEGASUS PRIDE was forced to race wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of SCREEN SIREN failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Jockey B. Stewart was fined $200 under AR. 145 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight on FEMMEBOT.
Race 4: JENNY PASCOE MEMORIAL H’CAP – 1400M
1st – Decibeel 2nd - Aquareine 3rd – Tattyam 4th – Nepro/Pravana
CHOSEN GODDESS (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.
ROCK BABY ROCK (C. Spry) was forced to race wide throughout.
Shortly after straightening PRAVANA (G. Colless) shifted out and bumped ROCK BABY ROCK.
O’TONDA, which bled during the event, will incur a mandatory three-month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from O’TONDA.
G. Colless, the rider of 4th placegetter PRAVANA, was fined $200 under AR. 137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of PRAVANA, G. Colless stated that in his opinion the mare performed disappointingly. He added that PRAVANA had the run of the race, however when placed under pressure only ran home fairly.
Race 5: IDEAL LIFESTYLE H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Foxmore 2nd – Red Hot Pistol 3rd – Stylish Qualo 4th – The Pianist
Trainer K. Nolan was fined $50 under AR. 59A for failing to present the Document of Description for THE PIANIST.
THE PIANIST (S. Seamer) jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
DAWN’S PRIDE (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m ZOOBINI (N. Thomas) blundered.
FOXMORE (M. Price) raced wide throughout.
COMMANDER MONASH (K. Pope) made the 600m crossing awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after the crossing COMMANDER MONASH shifted back in resulting in DAWN’S PRIDE having to be steadied.
Passing the 200m STYLISH QUALO (J. Taylor) shifted out to improve around the heels of HAYIL LEE BEE (C. Spry) and in doing so took TITUSVILLE (K. Forrester) out across the heels of LEGCAPA (T. Pannell), resulting in TITUSVILLE having to be steadied. TITUSVILLE was then held up for a short distance.
When questioned regarding the performance of HAYIL LEE BEE, jockey C. Spry stated that the mare travelled well, however failed to finish the race off as expected. He added that in his opinion at this stage of its preparation the mare may be suited in races over further ground. His explanation was noted.
Race 6: HOLDEN H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Mr Aristos 2nd – Power And Gold 3rd – Gullcatcher 4th – Princess Margaret
MR ARISTOS (G. Colless) was a little slow to begin.
POWER AND GOLD (S. Katsidis) blundered on jumping away.
PICADAY (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 400m POWER AND GOLD shifted out, taking PICADAY out on to the heels of DEFECTING PLAYBOY (J. Taylor). As a result, PICADAY had to be steadied.
PICADAY was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of NAVAL SEAL, apprentice R. Plumb stated that the gelding performed below his expectations, however he believed that it was not fully suited today with the drop back in distance. His explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of NAVAL SEAL failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K. Wood indicated that NAVAL SEAL would be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 7: MANPOWER RECRUITMENT H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Warrior Trader 2nd – King’s Coup 3rd – Very Canny 4th – Phoenix Express
As K. Pope was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club’s medical officer, K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of FRISCO’S HAREM and L. Morrison as the rider of TINYBOW in Race 8.
HARBOUR MAGIC (K. Forrester) was tightened on jumping away between MIDNIGHT AVENUE (L. Morrison) and DESERT RANSOM (M. Morris) which shifted out.
ADAVALE HORNET (M. Price) blundered on jumping away.
HOUSE OF WOODWIND (J. Taylor) was a little slow to begin.
Passing the 1200m KING’S COUP (J. Bowditch), which was overracing, ran up on to the heels of PICABLU (R. Plumb) and shifted out inconveniencing ADAVALE HORNET. KING’S COUP was then obliged to race wide for a short distance.
ADAVALE HORNET and DESERT RANSOM raced wide throughout.
Near the 1000m PHOENIX EXPRESS (S. Galloway), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of WOLFMAN (T. Pannell).
Jockey K. Forrester was fined $500 under AR. 145 for returning to scale in excess of a kilogram overweight on HARBOUR MAGIC.
Race 8: THE NORMANBY HOTEL H’CAP – 1400M
1st – Elegant Roi 2nd – Sovereign Dream 3rd - Pentup 4th – Blue Oyster
Due to an electrical storm, Race 8 was run 50 seconds early.
FRISCO’S VISION (M. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1200m TINYBOW (L. Morrison) ran up on to the heels of BLUE OYSTER (R. Plumb) and had to be steadied.
MIGHTY ICON (K. Forrester) overraced in the early stages.
CLEVERGAZE (J. Bowditch) overraced in the early and middle stages.
L’ELEVE (M. Palmer) and FRISCO’S VISION were forced to race wide throughout.
Close to the finish line FAIR ACE (M. Price) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BOLD REASON (J. Taylor), which was taken out slightly by MR LISTER (T. Pannell), and FRISCO’S VISION, which was taken in by MIGHTY ICON, which was taken in by CLEVERGAZE.
Jockey S. Katsidis, the rider of 6th placegetter LEICA LAUNCH, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the finish of the race.
Apprentice R. Plumb, the rider of BLUE OYSTER, was issued with a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that between the 20m and after the winning post he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CLEVERGAZE, resulting in that gelding being taken in and tightening the running of MIGHTY ICON, which was taken in on to FRISCO’S VISION, which was taken in on to the hind quarters of BOLD REASON. As a result, MIGHTY ICON had to be checked and FRISCO’S VISION shifted in and made contact with BOLD REASON, clipping that horse’s heels and blundering, almost dislodging M. Cahill. After reserving his plea, apprentice M. Plumb requested that his master, trainer L. Plumb, represent him and the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
