PENTATHON (M. Du Plessis) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on COLD START, B. Stewart stated his instructions were to lead. He stated that, in his opinion, he was positive out of the barrier from the 1 alley and intended to lead. He further added that, in his opinion, the tempo of the race in the early stages was quick and as a result of runners who had drawn outside being caught wide early, they continued to press forward in an endeavour to take up a position closer to the rail, and this placed COLD START further back in the field then he had anticipated. He further stated that when he had the opportunity to press forward to take the lead approaching the 1600m he did so. The explanation was noted.

Stewards questioned jockey B. El-Issa and trainer R. Heathcote regarding the tactics adopted on GAME ON. B. El-Issa stated that the horse did not jump as he would have hoped and, in his opinion, he was positive in the early stages, however approaching the first turn he was obliged to steady when tightened for room when SCULPTOR shifted in near the 3000m, and as a result was placed further back in the field than he had anticipated. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed the instructions, however was disappointed with B. El-Issa’s lack of aggression in the early stages. Stewards noted the explanations.

A post race veterinary examination of SKYLEDA failed to reveal any abnormalities other than the gelding had lost its off fore plate in running.
