From SCTC meeting, 29.6.08

After considering the written correspondence from Queensland Racing to apprentice C. Franklin, stewards found C. Franklin in breach of AR85B for failing to fulfil his riding engagement on Visitation in race 7 and was fined $100.

Race 1: AGAR Cleaning Services Maiden Plate – 1843M
1st – French Penn 2nd – Chelle’s Alibi 3rd – Kansas City Star 4th – Fame Dancer

SANTA TERESA (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.

KANSAS CITY STAR (A. Coome) and BEARHART GOLD (E. Wilkinson) came together and bumped at the start.

Shortly after the start, FAME DANCER (B. El-Issa) and GRUNGLE (P. Hammersley) were tightened for room between NIKOSI’S HAVEN (M. Hughes) and KANSAS CITY STAR (A. Coome), which shifted in.

SUAVE CONSORT (S. Scriven) and BROM ITALIA (K. Wharton) both raced wide in the early stages.

FAME DANCER (B. El-Issa) had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages.

Near the 600m, CHELLE’S ALIBI (G. Colless) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced
FRENCH PENN, which had raced wide from the 800m, wider on the track.

B. El-Issa, rider of FAME DANCER, accidentally dropped his whip leaving the 250m.

Race 2: Cleanconcierge Maiden H’cap - 1400m
1st – Soulgen 2nd – Howgoodsthat 3rd – team thunderstone 4th – Zhay Nay Rahl

DEPUTATION (G. Colless) began awkwardly.

SUNDAY SWEETIE (A. Erhart) was tightened for room at the start between SOULGEN (C. Reith) and CA PLANE POUR MOI (B. El-Issa), which shifted out away from ZHAY NAY RAHL (N. Thomas).

CA PLANE POUR MOI overraced in the early stages.

Near the 1000m, DESPERATES (D. Hayse) became unbalanced and shifted in, making heavy contact with the running rail and as a consequence shifted out and bumped GLAD TIDINGS (L. Rolls). D. Hayse, rider of DESPERATES, reported that his mount shied at a bird which was directly in its path just prior to this incident. As a consequence, ZHAY NAY RAHL and HOWGOODSTHAT (S. Scriven) had to be steadied, which in turn resulted in CA PLANE POUR MOI and SUNDAY SWEETIE (A. Erhart) being inconvenienced.

ZHAY NAY RAHL was inclined to hang out in the middle stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DEPUTATION, G. Colless stated that after beginning awkwardly his mount settled at the rear of the field, however when placed under pressure at the 600m, failed to race up to expectations. Trainer’s representative S. Morrisey stated that the horse became extremely agitated in its race day stall, which he felt was the main contributing factor in the horse’s poor performance. A post race veterinary examination of DEPUTATION failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SOULGEN was found to have suffered a bleeding attack after the event, and in accordance with AR53A, the gelding will now be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 3: Cleanevent 3yo Fillies Maiden H’cap - 1200m
1st – Specks Of Magic 2nd – Star Of Ombra 3rd – Baby Rock 4th - Licorice

The starting time of this race was delayed due to SOLAR BOUND proving difficult to load.

SILVER SCREAMER (R. Goltz) and LICORICE (S. Scriven) were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m, FIRE OF HEART (S. Galloway) improved up on to the heels of SPECKS OF MAGIC (C. Reith) and shifted in.

Leaving the 200m, PYPER’S IMAGE (E. Wilkinson) improved up on to the heels of the weakening SOLAR BOUND and had to be steadied and shifted out, bumping SILVER SCREAMER (R. Goltz), which in turn shifted out, forcing LUCY BEA (M. Hellyer) to be steadied.

STAR OF OMBRA (R. McMahon) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOLAR BOUND, G. Colless could offer no tangible explanation and confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance. G. Colless gave an indication that SOLAR BOUND may be sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of SOLAR BOUND failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: The Clean Group 3yo C&G Maiden H’cap - 1200m
1st – Montazoa 2nd – Notevenow 3rd – General Purple 4th – Reve D’Or

REVE D’OR (R. McMahon) began awkwardly.

GREENHIDE (N. Thomas) was tightened for room on jumping away between GENERAL PURPLE (S. Seamer) and TORA SAN (M. Hellyer), both of which shifted ground.

MONTAZOA (S. Galloway) was tightened shortly after the start between ELSHAMAH (S. Scriven) and NOTEVENNOW (P. Hammersley), which was taken in by LE MIRAGE (E. Wilkinson).

MR BOOGIEWOOGIE (C. Reith) overraced in the early stages and near the 1000m had to be steadied when racing between PREFERENCES (G. Colless) and ELSHAMAH (S. Scriven).

S. Galloway, rider of MONTAZOA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of REVE D’OR (R. McMahon), which resulted in REVE D’OR being checked. S. Galloway was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 31 August, and to expire at midnight, 6 September 2008.

Leaving the 300m, MONTAZOA shifted out to improve around the heels of GENERAL PURPLE (S. Seamer) and in doing so bumped ELSHAMAH .

GENERAL PURPLE (S. Seamer), NOTEVENOW (P. Hammersley) and LE MIRAGE (E. Wilkinson) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Central Cleaning Supplies F&M Class 4 H’cap - 1400m
1st –Academy Pride 2nd – Lady Red 3rd – Academy Pride 4th – Ladyswood

Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LADY RED by the prescribed time.

The start of this race was delayed as a result of FELECIA breaking its tongue-tie. Due to a replacement being unable to be fitted, the mare raced without a tongue-tie.

ELEDA (D. Tanti) and PRINCESS NORMA (L. Dillon) were both slow to begin.

Near the 800m, LADYSWOOD (S. Seamer) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of ACADEMY PRIDE (S. Scriven), which shifted out.

Race 6: Cleanevent Class 3 H’cap - 1600m

Hellyer, rider of COXLESS, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. It was noted that SUNSET MARQUIS overraced for some distance after this incident.

Race 7: Cleandomain Class 3 H’cap - 1000m
1st – Je Ne Sais Pas 2nd – Hurl 3rd – Shezasmith 4th – Sweed

SWEED (T. Pannell) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with SNIPPET STREET (B. El-Issa).

MORCOMBE (K. Wharton) raced wide for the majority of the event.

T. Pannell, rider of the 4th placegetter, SWEED, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race.

Stewards questioned B. El-Issa regarding his failure to weigh in 5th on SNIPPET STREET. After considering his explanation and that of the Clerk of Scales, Mr D. Weir, stewards considered there were extenuating circumstances and took no further action in the matter.
