Race 1: Shannon Diett Maiden 3yo & Up H’cap - 1840m
1st – Siong Tee 2nd – Real Grand 3rd – Manziedear 4th - Montaperti
PROM KNIGHT (D. Griffin) hung out rounding the first turn.
BANDOLIER (C. McIver) and ON MOTION (K. Wharton) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 1200m, MANZIEDEAR (M. Hellyer) improved up on to the heels of ON MOTION (K. Wharton) and had to be steadied.
ALAMO (R. Wiggins) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
REAL GRAND (M. Heagney) raced wide in the middle stages.
MANZIEDEAR was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
PROM KNIGHT (D. Griffin) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CHI CHI GRANDE, apprentice J. Jones stated that the mare travelled well and approaching the home turn he was able to improve his position, however when placed under pressure, CHI CHI GRANDE only accelerated for a short distance and then began to tire. He further added in his opinion the mare was disappointing. Trainer B. Miller was unable to offer any explanation and stated that CHI CHI GRANDE had worked well leading up to today’s event. Mr Miller undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Due to further rain, the track rating was reassessed as Dead 5.
Race 2: Hidden Dragon Open H’cap - 1840m
1st – Rebounded 2nd – King Latarmiss 3rd – Pentacity 4th – The Big Zig
Due to transport difficulties, K. Pope was unable to fulfil his engagement on KING LATARMISS and was replaced by D. Griffin.
Near the 1500m, THE BIG ZIG (A. Spinks) shifted out, taking SKYLEDA (R. McMahon) wider on the track. SKYLEDA was then obliged to race wide to a point near the 1100m.
THE BIG ZIG (A. Spinks) raced wide from a point leaving the 800m.
Race 3: Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus 2yo H’cap - 1000m
1st – Fear No Other 2nd – Craiglea Whizard 3rd – Flaxen Belle 4th – Lord Bellanskey
Trainer G. Cornish was advised that a waring would be placed on RUN JAKE RUN regarding its barrier manners.
RUN JAKE RUN (S. Drake) and CHARMINGLY (R. McMahon) were slow to begin.
FEAR NO OTHER (C. McIver) and PURFECTLYFEARLESS (C. Reith) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 700m, LORD BELLANSKEY (D. Tanti) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CRAIGLEA WHIZARD (K. Pope), which shifted in.
Passing the 450m, FLAXEN BELLE (R. Wiggins) had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of CRAIGLEA WHIZARD.
CRAIGLEA WHIZARD and FEAR NO OTHER had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Following this event, the track rating was reassessed as Slow 6.
Race 4: Past The Post BBQ F&M Maiden 3yo & Up H’cap - 1200m
1st – Tidy Emotion 2nd – Manaudou 3rd – Thunder Aura 4th - Natana
MINI MOJITO was declared a late scratching at 12.15 pm after the mare was injured when being unloaded at the track.
ROYAL SAINT (C. Reith) and THUNDER AURA (R. McMahon) made contact on jumping away.
ILSENSTEIN (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
GENERAL SECRETARY (R. Goltz) shifted out at the start, making contact with ELLA MAREE (C. McIver) and then became unbalanced and shifted in, bumping TIDY EMOTION (T. Pannell).
MY CARA MIA (D. Griffin) raced wide in the early stages.
Leaving the 800m, ILSENSTEIN (J. Bowditch), when racing fiercely, shifted in, making contact with LITTLE PATCH (M. Heagney) on several occasions. Shortly after, OLAMIDE (T. Chambers) shifted in slightly, resulting in ILSENSTEIN being further tightened on to LITTLE PATCH (M. Heagney), which became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in ILSENSTEIN having to be checked.
For some distance leaving the 750m, THUNDER AURA and GENERAL SECRETARY were forced to race in restricted room to the inside of MY CARA MIA (D. Griffin). D. Griffin, rider of MY CARA MIA, was advised that he must make greater efforts to ensure his fellow riders are afforded sufficient racing room in future.
Near the 500m, ILSENSTEIN (J. Bowditch), when racing greenly, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, tightening the running of LITTLE PATCH (M. Heagney), which had to be steadied.
Passing the 300m, NATANE (A. Spinks) and ROYAL SAINT (C. Reith) made contact.
MANAUDOU (N. Day) shifted in over the concluding stages, making contact with TIDY EMOTION.
MISS ATTANAGH (K. Wharton), NATANE (A. Spinks) and BREATHIN’ EASY (K. Pope) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 5: Peter Harris 6th Birthday CG&E Maiden 3yo & Up H’cap - 1200m
1st – Castiglione Kid 2nd – Spirto Gentil 3rd – Sarcastically 4th – Huss
INCENDIO was declared a late scratching at 12.15 pm after the gelding was injured when being transported to the track.
SIR EMLAND (D. Green) was slow to begin.
SARCASTICALLY (M. Hellyer) and CASTIGLIONE KID (R. Wiggins) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 800m, WYNNUM HIGH (R. McMahon) improved up on to the heels of HUSS (R. Goltz) and had to be steadied.
Passing the 500m, WYNNUM HIGH shifted out, taking SARCASTICALLY out on to SIR EMLAND.
SARCASTICALLY and SIR EMLAND raced wide throughout.
Race 6: www.qtc.org 3yo H’cap - 1200m
1st – Castagnola 2nd – Hawkeye Pierce 3rd – Gundy Son 4th - Sharjah
BRILLIANTES (R. Wiggins) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with DANE RHYTHM (J. Jones), and then shifted in and made contact with SHARJAH (L. Rolls).
Near the 800m, SHARJAH commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of CASTAGNOLA (R. McMahon). SHARJAH continued to overrace and near the 700m shifted out when being restrained and had to be steadied off the heels of DANE RHYTHM (J. Jones).
CASTAGNOLA (R. McMahon) had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
HAWKEYE PIERCE (K. Wharton) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Following this event, the track rating was reassessed as Heavy 8.
Race 7: QTC Valentines Day Packages Class 1 H’cap - 1300m
1st – Cassardi 2nd – Delago Pilli 3rd – Materazzi 4th – Sir Rossa
Due to transport difficulties, B. El-Issa was unable to fulfil his engagement on DELAGO PILLI and OH CANADA (Race 8). N. Day was the replacement rider on DELAGO PILLI and A. Erhart for OH CANADA.
Following the downgrading of the track to a Slow 6, stewards acceded to an application from trainer L. Birchley to scratch SIRENA LIGERA and FALCO STAR (Race 9) at 2.15 pm.
BRAVESTOFTHEBRAVE was declared a late scratching at 4.08 pm by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after that horse was injured after becoming fractious in the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on BRAVESTOFTHEBRAVE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer S. Lowe was advised that he must provide and veterinary clearance and barrier certificate for BRAVESTOFTHEBRAVE prior to its next race start.
The stable representative for trainer T. Bailey was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for SIR ROSSA, which proved difficult to load.
MATERAZZI (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
KBENRENRUN (R. McMahon), which was slow to begin, shifted out shortly after the start, making contact with CASSARDI (J. Bowditch).
Near the 1000m, SPANISH SISTER (A. Spinks) shifted out, making contact with THE ROMAN (L. Rolls), which in turn shifted out, bumping TOWER BRIDGE (K. Wharton), which became unbalanced and blundered.
SPANISH SISTER (A. Spinks), TOWER BRIDGE, MATERAZZI and MAGNETIC APPEAL (D. Griffin) raced wide throughout.
Race 8: Lyndhurst Stud Class 3 H’cap - 1600m
1st – Use To Be A Dancer 2nd – Raffael Nediym/The Clandy Man Can 4th – Unapred
Stewards will interview trainer T. Gollan regarding the late declaration of rider for THE CLANDY MAN CAN.
Apprentice jockey L. Rolls (PATTI) was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance on KINGCUP (Race 3), SHARJAH (Race 6) and PATTI (Race 8).
QUISATANA (R. Wiggins) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Leaving the 1000m, PATTI (L. Rolls) and UNAPRED (R. McMahon) raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of RAFFAEL NEDIYM (C. Reith).
OH CANADA (A. Erhart) overraced in the early and middle stages when racing wide.
FATHER DEX (N. Day) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
MUSIC LOVER (D. Griffin), which had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight, was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Hellyer (NAPPER TANDY) when racing in restricted room between that horse and RAFFAEL NEDIYM.
THE CLANDY MAN CAN raced wide throughout.
HARRY’S CHOICE lost its near fore plate in running.
A post race veterinary examination of QUISATANA, which tired badly over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 9: Sequalo Class 3 Plate – 1000m
1st – Citiwyse 2nd – Monashee Dancer 3rd – Miss Courtly 4th – Vera’s Pride
Following the downgrading of the track to Heavy 8, stewards acceded to an application from trainer F. Phillips to scratch PLENTY OF PRACTISE at 3.36 pm.
SCENT OF GOLD (M. Helyer) and QUEEN OF ASIA (D. Griffin) made contact on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, SNEAKY SQUIRREL (T. Chambers), QUEEN OF ASIA, SCENT OF GOLD, LITEASAIR (A. Erhart), AURELIO (R. Wiggins), ROSCO’S CIRCUS (N. Day) and CITIWYSE (K. Wharton) raced in restricted room between MISS COURTLY (A. Spinks), which shifted in, and MONASHEE DANCER (J. Jones), which had a tendency to shift out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident SCENT OF GOLD lost its position.
SNEAKY SQUIRREL and QUEEN OF ASIA made the home turn very wide.
When questioned regarding the performance of ROSCO’S CIRCUS, jockey N. Day stated that, in his opinion, the horse failed to handle today’s track conditions and he believed that the gelding may have struck itself when placed under full pressure upon entering the straight. A post race veterinary examination of ROSCO’S CIRCUS failed to reveal any abnormalities.
