SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

As S. Galloway was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: NORRIS MOTOR GROUP H’CAP - 2100m
1st – Frozone 2nd – Lander 3rd – Afleet Rapper 4th – Telfire

After jumping away awkwardly, IL FAVORITO (A. Pattillo) was obliged to race wide in the early stages.

LORD RUPERT (C. Reith) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Race 2: GENEEN STREET CORPORATE ADVISORS QTIS H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Sanderson 2nd – Startling Pleasure 3rd – Pharonic 4th – Panningen

After arriving at the barrier it was noted that CLEATS was bleeding from the mouth as a result of having loosened a tooth.

BELLAVONANE (S. Drake) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer G. Cornish said that BELLAVONANE would be immediately spelled and before racing again he gave an assurance that it would be trialled.

JUST A PICCOLO (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

J. Byrne (PANNINGEN) said that in the straight he did have an opportunity of improving to the inside of STARTLING PLEASURE but elected not to do so and attempted a run between that horse and PHARONIC, but near the winning post was disappointed for running when right on the heels of STARTLING PLEASURE. As a consequence of this he was not able to ride PANNINGEN out to the winning post as he normally would and had he been able to do so he thought he may have run third.

G. Colless (APUCKSHUNUBBEE ) said that the horse travelled only satisfactorily in the run and when put under pressure in the straight was inclined to hang in and was disappointing.

After the race it was noted that JUST A PICCOLO was sore in its hear hind leg. Before the horse can race again a veterinary certificate of fitness will have to be produced.

Race 3: CULLEN H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Deacon 2nd – In Rehearsal 3rd – La Zeel 4th – Yield Curve

LA ZEEL (S. Katsidis) overraced and refused to settle in the middle stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. Hellyer in regards to the tactics he employed on NEVADA GAMBLER today by which he took up a forward position which is in contrast to its normal racing pattern. M. Hellyer stated that he had been instructed to position the gelding where it was comfortable and given the distinct lack of pace in the race he felt it best, when the gelding began well, to take up a handy position. Stewards accepted his explanation.

Race 4: BRAND & SLATER H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Shakeva 2nd – Monashee Dancer 3rd – Kelly 4th – Falco Star

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, S. Seamer, the rider of KELLY, 3rd placegetter, sought permission to view the official video films as he thought there may have been grounds to lodge a protest against MONASHEE DANCER, 2nd placegetter. After viewing the available films, jockey Seamer decided it would be inappropriate to proceed. Correct weight was then declared.

When the gates opened MONASHEE DANCER (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and caused crowding to all other runners in the race. The main sufferers were SHAKEVA and FALCO STAR, both of which were severely checked. Unnecessary crowding also occurred to KELLY, IMA JOKER and MYAGI. Whilst the incident was one of some consequence, the stewards believed that in all the circumstances it would be inappropriate to take direct action against A. Pattillo; however he was told that he must do his utmost at all times to avoid this type of crowding taking place.

Race 5: JUDY GOODGER PRESTIGE H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Crackajack Fortune 2nd – Mazuka 3rd – Hyde Park 4th – Overanxious

As M. Radecker was required at a Stewards Inquiry at the Gold Coast Turf Club and was subsequently unable to make it to the course on time, A. Pattillo was permitted to ride CASA CARDOSO half a kilogram over the declared weight when no other rider was available to ride at the weight.

Immediately after the start Mr Bill Shuck, the Club starter, contacted the Chairman of Stewards as he thought there was a chance, albeit a slight one, that CRACKAJACK FORTUNE may have sprung its gate prior to him officially releasing the field. In accordance with AR. 8(f), which requires the stewards to determine all questions which might arise at a race meeting, and the question had been asked in relation to the start by Mr Shuck, before the declaration of correct weight the stewards viewed all available video films in an endeavour to satisfy themselves that the start was fairly effected. They were satisfied on the evidence available that CRACKAJACK FORTUNE had bounded forward just as the gates were opened by the starter. Accordingly correct weight was declared.

On jumping OVERANXIOUS was checked when crowded for room between HYDE PARK, which shifted in, and OUR VOLTAGE, which shifted out.

On jumping away SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET was crowded for room between ARHONDAS, which shifted in abruptly, and HYDE PARK.

Near the 100m BAQABA shifted out in an endeavour to improve its position and in doing so made heavy contact with the tiring RED RAE.

B. El-Issa (CRACKAJACK FORTUNE) stated that he had not been given any specific instructions but the trainer did tell him the horse has some speed. He said that when CRACKAJACK FORTUNE left the gates so cleanly he had no hesitation in allowing it to run along in front.

A post-race veterinary examination of SUNTANNED, which finished a distant last, revealed that the gelding was sore in the near hind leg. Before the horse can race again a veterinary certificate of fitness will have to be produced.

Race 6: SWAN SERVICES H’CAP - 1200m
1st –Tears’N’Cheers 2nd – Seething Duck 3rd – Pub Torque 4th – His Boy Elroy

The start was delayed due to the bridle on SEETHING DUCK breaking. A replacement was affixed to SEETHING DUCK which then took its place in the barriers.

MILLERS WHEEL had to be steadied shortly after the start between PUB TORQUE and HIS BOY ELROY, both of which shifted ground slightly.

SEETHING DUCK raced ungenerously for a short distance leaving the 1000m.

CAT EYES raced wide for the majority of the event.

S. Katsidis (PUB TORQUE) said that on occasions during the race the horse, to him, appeared to lose interest, got its head on the side, raced ungenerously and hung out. He said after the race he did suggest to the trainer it may be wise to consider adding some gear to the horse.

Post-race veterinary examinations of STOLIT and HEART failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7: ST MARGARET’S ANGLICAN GIRLS SCHOOL COUNTRY CUP - 1400m
1st – Winmara 2nd – Scarbank 3rd – Innocenttassie 4th – Desert Hayil

SOMEWHERE SAFER, which injured itself in its raceday stall, was a late scratching at 3.49 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SOMEWHERE SAFER be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply to bets placed prior to 3.49 p.m.

DESERT HAYIL was slow to begin.

In the early stages CARNEGIE PRINCE had a tendency to overrace and on occasions threw its head about.

SNAGAPOT raced wide throughout.

Near the 300m SCARBANK, which had a tendency to lay in, was inconvenienced by TOCAPITALIZE which, after being hit with the whip, shifted out abruptly. The occurrence was accidental.

Over about the last 100m BLUE EGO (J. Byrne) was unable to obtain clear running. As a consequence the horse was not ridden out to the winning post as it normally would be.

S. Katsidis (HEZA FLASHMAN) explained that he was very disappointed with the horse’s run. He said that before the race he gave HEZA FLASHMAN a strong preliminary and after arriving at the start kept the horse on the move to ensure it was well warmed up before being boxed. He hoped by doing this HEZA FLASHMAN may have taken up a somewhat more forward position than has been the practice in the past. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily and at about the 500m he thought he was some chance of success but when put under pressure HEZA FLASHMAN did not respond as he thought it would and was well beaten shortly after. He said he did say to the connections shortly after the race that maybe 1400m is too far for HEZA FLASHMAN at this stage.

A post-race veterinary examination of SMARTNESS revealed the mare to be sore in both forelegs. Before the horse can race again a veterinary certificate of fitness will have to be produced.

Race 8: CECCATO HALL & ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTS H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Chilled 2nd – Sandton 3rd – All Our Way 4th – Morgalicious

After being weighed out A. Pattillo, the declared rider of ETON HALL, was examined by the Club doctor who said in his opinion jockey Pattillo should not take the ride. Jockey L. Rolls was substituted and as a consequence of this riding change the race was late starting.

CHARVICKY was tightened for room shortly after the start between MORGALICIOUS and GOLDERS ROAD, which was taken out by ALL OUR WAY.

When the pace slackened leaving the 1000m GOLDERS ROAD improved up on to the heels of ETON HALL and had to be steadied. CHARVICKY, which was following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.

MR DOYLE and KHAIRESPRIT raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of KHAIRESPRIT revealed the mare to be exhibiting soreness in the off fore fetlock. Stewards ordered that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced for KHAIRESPRIT before starting again.

B. Stewart, the rider of 4th placegetter MORGALICIOUS, was fined $200 under AR. 145 for weighing in overweight.
