Race 1: A Plate In History Class 6 Plate - 2200m
1st – Beartracker 2nd – Body Double 3rd – Justin Case 4th – Hooray Tobey

As P. Hammersley was to be overweight on PRINCE TELESTO and BACKSTABBER (Race 6), riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. P. Hammersley was fined the sum of $300.

ETON HALL (K. Pope) was slow to begin.

Both BEARTRACKER (L. Cassidy) and BRILLIANT WEEN (A. Spinks) raced wide in the early stages.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BEARTRACKER (L. Cassidy) and SUPER WONTON (D. Craven) were tightened for room between HOORAY TOBEY (B. El-Issa) and BRILLIANT WEEN, which shifted in. A. Sprinks, rider of BRILLIANT WEEN, was reprimanded and advised to allow sufficient room for his fellow riders in future.

J. Taylor reported that BODY DOUBLE was a little one paced in its effort in the early stages of the straight and would be better suited over 2400m.

J. Byrne reported that JUSTIN CASE laid in throughout the event and, in his opinion, did not appreciate the firm surface today.

Post race veterinary examinations of BRILLIANT WEEN (A. Spinks) and PRINCE TELESTO (K. Wharton), which tired over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Qld T-Shirt Company QTIC 600 2yo H'cap - 1000m
1st –De Lago Bloom 2nd – Jantzen 3rd – Paris Blu 4th – Bust ‘N’ Loose

PUBLIC PROSECUTOR (S. Seamer), DRIVING REIGN (K. Pope) and OLDWALLY (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

JANTZEN (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly.

A. Spinks reported that approaching the 600m PLUM DUFF was reluctant to hold its position between BEEN PERFECT (C. McIver) and CRAIGLEA ROYALE (K. Wharton) and as a result lost ground.

J. Byrne reported that OLDWALLY raced greenly for a short distance approaching the 600m.

EMEILIUN ROSE (P. Hammersley) hung in when placed under pressure in the straight.

DRIVING REIGN (K. Pope) hung out rounding the home turn.

PARIS BLU (M. Hellyer) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

ST HALOR (A. Pattillo) hung in when placed under pressure in the straight.

A post race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA ROYALE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

The veterinary surgeon also reported that MR STYLE was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer P. Balzen will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for MR STYLE prior to its next race start.

Race 3: Brisbane Jazz Festival Class 6 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Cornwall 2nd – Aquaterra 3rd – Thorondo 4th – Plenty Of Practise

THORONDO (K. Pope) was slow to begin.

MISTER TIVOLI (A. Pattillo) faltered shortly after the start and shifted out, bumping CORNWALL PARK (G. Colless).

GATHER (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey D. Browne, rider of AQUATERRA, in regards to the reasons his mount came away from the running rail rounding the turn and in the early stages of the straight, thereby allowing CORNWALL PARK a run to its inside. D. Browne explained that from the time he allowed AQUATERRA more rein to increase the tempo inside the 600m it had a tendency to lay away from the fence, and despite his efforts shifted ground outwards. D. Browne further explained that he was unaware that CORNWALL PARK was trailing him and he would have had to apply extreme pressure to the inside rein and unbalance AQUATERRA to hold his position on the running rail, and he felt this would have been detrimental to the chances of AQUATERRA finishing in its best possible position. D. Brown further reported that he was forced to stop riding and straighten AQUATERRA on several occasions in the straight due to it shifting ground outwards. Trainer B. Guy confirmed the horse has displayed a tendency to hang out throughout its career. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 4: O’Donnell Griffin Open H'cap - 1600m
1st – Daedalus 2nd – Sneaky Long 3rd – In Rehearsal 4th – Yield Curve

IN REHEARSAL (D. Browne) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with DAEDALUS (L. Cassidy).

CUBAN DANCER (D. Craven) overraced in the early and middle stages.

Stewards questioned K. Wharton as to the reason why he remained 3 wide on NEVADA GAMBLER when there appeared to be an opportunity to restrain that gelding and obtain a position closer to the fence near the 1000m trailing REINCARNATION (A. Spinks). K. Wharton explained that he was instructed to given NEVADA GAMBLER an uninterrupted run and after passing the 1200m he rode forward in an attempt to clear REINCARNATION, however as he was unable to do this he elected to remain 3 wide on the track. Stewards advised K. Wharton that in their view his actions did not have a material effect on the placing of NEVADA GAMBLER, however it was reasonable to expect that he would restrain and obtain cover approaching the 1000m.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider Jim Byrne and trainer K. Kemp in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of MALELA. J. Byrne stated that the horse began very well and took up a position closer to the lead than he would have liked, however bearing in mind the lack of speed in the race he was reluctant to restrain MALELA to a position further back in the field, as is its normal racing pattern. J. Byrne felt that the horse racing in a handier position today than is usual, along with the firm surface, were 2 factors which may have explained the horse’s performance. Trainer K. Kemp agreed with J. Byrne’s comments and voiced his disappointment in the performance of MALELA. A post race veterinary examination of MALELA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Trainer J. Thomas reported that REINCARNATION did not appreciate the firm surface and would now be sent for a spell.

Following this event, the track rating was upgraded to Good 2.

Race 5: National Civil 2MW H'cap - 1200m
1st – Bold Glance 2nd – Bazzooka 3rd – Ulladulla 4th – Citiwyse

NEPRO (C. McIver) was slow to begin.

WOORIM (L. Cassidy), which was a little slow to begin, was tightened for room shortly after the start between BOLD GLANCE (K. Banks) and ULLADULLA (J. Byrne),which was taken out by LENNON (L. Rolls).

CITIWYSE (K. Wharton) commenced to overrace leaving the 1000m and did so until inside the 600m.

VAN ROOYEN (S. Seamer) overraced in the middle stages and near the 400m shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.

MANSTON (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout, and M. Hellyer dropped his whip near the 200m.

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding his riding of WOORIM rounding the home turn and in the home straight. L. Cassidy explained that after being hampered shortly after the start he was forced to take up a position at the tail of the field and rounding the home turn he attempted to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running however he was unable to do this as ULLADULLA shifted out at that point. He added that WOORIM finished the race off well, however, in his opinion, would be better suited over further distance.

Race 6: Stanton Mienert Accounts Open H'cap - 1000m
1st – Burdekin Blues 2nd – Southerly Impact 3rd – Backstabber 4th - Cattleman

Shortly after the start both MR ARISTOS (J. Byrne) and POWER OF GEORGE were tightened for room between CATTLEMAN (M. Hellyer), which shifted out, and SEQUALLAN (C. McIver), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

Near the 700m, MR ARISTOS (J. Byrne) shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of SEQUALLAN (C. McIver).

A short distance later, SEQUALLAN shifted in and away from the heels of POWER OF GEORGE and again made contact with MR ARISTOS.

Near the 600m, POWER OF GEORGE shifted in, tightening the running of SEQUALLAN.

Passing the 500m, MR ARISTOS shifted out, resulting in SEQUALLAN having to be steadied. SEQUALLAN then travelled strongly at the heels of MR ARISTOS and had to be steadied on several occasions approaching the 400m.

Near the 100m, CATTLEMAN (M. Hellyer) shifted in, making contact with the tiring DAUNTING LAD (G. Colless).

DANCE GIRL DANCE raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of POWER OF GEORGE and DAUNTING LAD failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Fashion Marquee On Melbourne Cup 1MW H'cap - 1600m
1st – Tarrayoukyan 2nd – Sirena Ligera 3rd – Riseupsinging 4th – Outer Pole

A. Pattillo, rider of OUR SCOOBY DOO, which performed below expectations, explained the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout the race and did not feel comfortable in its action when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

J. Byrne, rider of LUCKY TOSS, which also performed below expectations and settled at the rear of the field, explained that the mare was not suited by the tempo of today’s race, which was slow in the middle stages. He added that he was a little disappointed with the finishing effort of LUCKY TOSS in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of LUCKY TOSS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 8: XXXX Gold QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Opportunistic 2nd –Unica Bahaya 3rd – Moama 4th – Emma’s Heart

PURETTAN was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.40 pm after the gelding was found to have sustained lacerations to the off fore fetlock and off knee in its race day stall. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on PURETTAN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets.

At a point near the 1100m, BRUJITA (C. McIver) had to be steadied when tightened for room by WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (J. Byrne), which shifted in after initially being taken in by MOTOWN LADY (P. Hammersley). J. Byrne, rider of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY, was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in at that stage.

GLACIAL MISS (L. Cassidy) overraced in the early and middle stages of the race.

Near the 800m, BRUJITA (C. McIver) had to be steadied when tightened for room between GLACIAL MISS (L. Cassidy) and UNICA BAHAYA (C. Reith), which shifted in momentarily. C. Reith, ride of UNICA BAHAYA, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

For some distance passing the 800m, WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY commenced to race ungenerously and shifted out, resulting in MOTOWN LADY (P. Hammersley) being hampered and taken wider on the track.

Near the 700m, PATAPINDA (M. Hellyer), which was overracing, shifted out and brushed WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY.

Passing the 600m, UNICA BAHAYA (C. Reith) shifted out and bumped MOTOWN LADY.

EMMA’S HEART (A. Spinks) shifted out under pressure over the final 300m.

For some distance approaching and passing the 200m, WARREGO (J. Taylor) was placed awkwardly at the heels of OURKOHINOOR.

Leaving the 200m, WARREGO (J. Taylor) had to be checked between OURKOHNOOR (B. El-Issa), which shifted in when tiring, and GLACIAL MISS, which shifted out off the heels of HEADHUNTER (D. Browne), which shifted out when tiring considerably.

ANDY SAID raced 4 wide without cover throughout the race.

OURKOHINOOR (B. El-Issa) raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event until weakening in the home straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley for the disappointing performance of MOTOWN LADY. P. Hammersley stated that on face value the run may have appeared disappointing, however in consideration of the fact that the horse travelled wide and carried a big weight, he was not completely dissatisfied with the filly’s run. He further added that the horse’s saddle had shifted back on MOTOWN LADY and felt this may have had an effect on th horse striding out. A post race veterinary examination of MOTOWN LADY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards also sought an explanation from A. Bailey in regards to OPPORTUNISTIC racing handier than at its most recent start. Mr Bailey explained that prior to the event a runner that was placed in his care, PURETTAN, had become fractious in its race day stall and after tending to that horse had failed to advise stewards of his intention to have the horse ridden more positively from the barriers. In the circumstances, stewards fined Mr Bailey the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR135A.

UNICA BAHAYA lost its off fore plate in running.
