P. Hammersley reported that COOL EDITION jumped away well and took up a position as instructed in the first half of the field, however in consideration of the horse’s finishing effort he was of the opinion that COOL EDITION would be better suited ridden from a more rearward position. A post-race veterinary examination of COOL EDITION revealed the horse to be lame in the offside foreleg and sore in both front fetlocks. Trainer T. Crane was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the horse races again.
When questioned as to the riding tactics on BENEFACTION, B. Stewart explained that he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly from its wide barrier and after settling back in the field he intended to trail KYROS (S. Seamer), however when the pace quickened after leaving the 600m KYROS did not progress forward as anticipated. He added that BENEFACTION was not entirely suited by the tempo of the race today and whilst able to test his mount in the straight, it was held up for clear running over the latter stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce in respect to the performance of MISS IMAGICA today. C. Munce stated that the horse was fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected and failed to show its customary speed in the early stages. C. Munce added he was never completely happy with the way the horse travelled throughout the race and proved very disappointing in his opinion. Trainer M. Nolan agreed that MISS IMAGICA was disappointing and would be sent for an immediate spell.
M. Speers, the rider of ANIMATED, which performed below expectations, advised stewards that the filly had stepped up in class sharply today, and its performance was satisfactory bearing in mind it was only the horse’s second start in a race following its win at Ipswich. Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce in respect to the performance of DRUMSHANBO. C. Munce stated that he was instructed to ride the horse a little closer today and was able to do so from his good alley, however in his opinion the horse raced a little strongly and this may have had an effect on the gelding’s capacity to finish off the race. Trainer M. Nolan was unable to offer any excuses for the disappointing run today.
Following the disappointing performance of PYRAMIDS, M. Cahill reported that the horse did not handle the step up in distance as it was having its first start over a middle distance today. A post-race veterinary examination of PYRAMIDS failed to reveal any abnormalities.

He added that the horse is better suited when able to lead, however the horse did not seem focused. Trainer Mrs G. Heinrich stated that the horse has shown in the past to be reluctant to race inside of horses and was of the view the horse races best when able to lead. She added that it is intended that the horse be stepped up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination of DAEDALUS failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Approaching the 600m GHETTO BLASTER shifted in and made contact with BLAZING HEARTS, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. At the same stage, CHINCHILLA ROSE (B. El-Issa) shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.

He indicated to stewards that it may be beneficial to drop the horse back in class and ride it a little quieter than he had today. Trainer N. Hilton advised that POOR JUDGE in his opinion may not have handled the step up in class to weight for age and he would monitor the horse in the days subsequent to the event and give consideration as to whether to proceed with the horse’s current preparation.

Byrne explained that he settled the horse in a handy position with cover, however the gelding failed to finish the race off as expected. J. Byrne added that in his view FANTASTIC BLUE will be better suited when ridden in a more rearward position in future starts. A post-race veterinary examination of FANTASTIC BLUE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
