Supplementary Report

As S. Seamer was injured, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: John & Therese Glennon Memorial Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Red God 2nd – Western Run 3rd – Robdon Ramble 4th – Golden Spires

On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Scriven, rider of the 2nd placegetter, RED GOD, against WESTERN RUN being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, it was established that WESTERN RUN did shift out under pressure over the final 150m, resulting in RED GOD being taken wider on the track and away from its rightful racing line. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the interference sustained by RED GOD in this incident exceeded the nose margin which separated both horses at the finish and therefore the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings altered to read: No. 7 – Red God - 1st No. 8 – Western Run – 2nd No. Robdon Ramble – 3rd No. 9 – Golden Spires – 4th.

RED GOD (S. Scriven) and GOLDEN SPIRES ((A. Butler) were tightened for room at the start between TRADIES HOPE (L. Cassidy) and ROBDON RAMBLE (C. Whiteley), both of which shifted ground.

RED OPINION (B. Pengelly) raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages before being allowed to stride forward to position outside the leader approaching the 600m.

Near the 400m, RED GOD shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped METAPHYSICAL (K. Wharton).

Approaching the 200m, SANGRAAL (B. Looker) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RED OPINION (B. Pengelly).

GOLDEN SPIRES raced 3 wide throughout.

S. Scriven, rider of the winner Red God, was fined $300 for using his whip in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 2: William Duffus Memorial 3yo Maiden H'cap - 1200m
1st – Rockabilly Boy 2nd – One Tree 3rd – Double Lines 4th – Eureka Pearls

ONE TREE (R. McMahon) began awkwardly.

OPHIDIAN (C. Whiteley) and SEREKH (G. Colless) were both slow to begin.

ROCKABILLY BOY (S. Katsidis) had a tendency to overrace in the early stages.

Near the 600m, ONE TREE was tightened for room and made heavy contact with the running rail when racing between OUR GREATMATE KATE (M. Cahill) and SEREKH (G. Colless), which shifted in.

KAMLOOP MAGIC (J. Bowditch) was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

A charge of careless riding was issued to R. McMahon, rider of ONE TREE, in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting out near the 300m when not sufficiently clear of KAMLOOP MAGIC, resulting in that horse having to be checked. After hearing further submissions, stewards did not proceed with the charge and they extended R. McMahon the benefit due to the racing manners of ONE TREE at that stage.

KAMLOOP MAGIC (J. Bowditch) and SEREKH (G. Colless) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 3: Mike Gervais Memorial Maiden H'cap – 1000m
1st – Granity 2nd – Dolled Up 3rd – Count Spur 4th – Annum Al

GRANITY (M. Cahill) raced greenly in the early stages.

Near the 800m, CEARNACH (C. Munce), when overracing, was placed awkwardly at the heels of NOT DECLARED (K. Forrester). CEARNACH then shifted out to a 3 wide position where the gelding raced for the remainder of the event.

Approaching the 500m, COUNT FERGUS (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied off the heels of NOT DECLARED.

GRANITY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight, and after passing the 200m shifted out and brushed NOT DECLARED, which in turn shifted out and brushed CEARNACH.

Over the final 100m, DOLLED UP (R. Wiggins) shifted out when placed under pressure, which enabled GRANITY to obtain a run to its inside.

TY SEEKER (J. Byrne) and GUNSHIP (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of DETROIT DAISY revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to its nose.

C. Munce was questioned regarding the performance of CEARNACH. He explained that the performance of the gelding was not entirely disappointing in carrying 58 kilograms over the 1000m distance, and, in his view, CEARNACH would be better suited in races over further distance.

Race 4: Mt Olivet Class 3 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Sequalo Morn 2nd – Kurgerrand 3rd –Miss Tennesse 4th – La Chance Finale

KRUGERRAND (J. Byrne) and LA CHANCE FINALE (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.

B. El-Issa, rider of ALLOWAY KING, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m, he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HUCKLEBERRY DANE (S. Katsidis), resulting in HUCKLEBERRY DANE striking the heels of ALLOWAY KING and blundering. B. El-Issa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight 30 July and to expire at midnight, 7 August. In considering penalty, stewards took into account the contribution to the incident by the slight outward movement of ONE OUTED (P. Hammersley).

After passing the 600m, AQUILA BRAVE (R. Wiggins) commenced to overrace and had to be checked to avoid the heels of SEQUALO MORN (J. Taylor). ACQUILA BRAVE then shifted out, resulting in ONE OUTED (P. Hammersley) and HUCKLEBERRY DANE (S. Katsidis) being taken wider on the track.

Leaving the 300m, ONE OUTED was tightened for room between ALLOWAY KING (B. El-Issa), which shifted out slightly when weakening, and HUCKLEBERRY DANE, which shifted in and away from KRUGERRAND (J. Byrne).

Near the 200m, MISS TENNESSEE (C. Munce) shifted out under pressure and bumped ROCK HONEY (R. McMahon).

After passing the 100m, J. Taylor, rider of SEQUALO MORN, dropped his whip.

HUCKLEBERRY DANE and ROCK HONEY (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Katsidis, rider of HUCKLEBERRY DANE, regarding the performance of that horse. S. Katsidis stated that after he met with interference at the 800m and again near the 500m it failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. S. Katsidis added that, in his view, HUCKLEBERRY DANE, would be better suited in future starts in races over a further distance. He was also of the view that HUCKLEBERRY DANE may have come to the end of its preparation. Stewards will interview trainer L. Birchley in relation to this mater in view of S. Katsidis’s comments.

Race 5: Weir & Associates Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus 2yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Miss Mimmick 2nd – Forest Doll 3rd – Pinnacle Ridge 4th – Freddy Or Not

REIGN OF COURAGE (P. Hammersley), SPUR ‘N’ ROSES (L. Cassidy) and QUALITY COUP (L. Rolls) began awkwardly.

After jumping away awkwardly, TEZUMA (C. McIver) was tightened for room shortly after the start between SHOW US THE DIME (J. Taylor) and FOREST DOLL (J. Byrne), which was taken in by QUALITY COUP. In this incident, TEZUMA made heavy contact with the hind quarters of SHOW US THE DIME.

When the pace steadied after passing the 800m, TEZUMA commenced to overrace and for some distance had to be restrained to avoid the heels of FORST DOLL (J. Byrne).

Approaching the 300m and , REIGN OF COURAGE was tightened for room between PLAYFUL PARIS (M. Hellyer) and SHOW US THE DIME, which shifted in.

Near the 200m, REIGN OF COURAGE had to be checked when tightened for room between PLAYFUL PARIS (M. Hellyer), which shifted out slightly, and SHOW US THE DIME (J. Taylor), which when racing greenly shifted in and away from SILVALITE (J. Bowditch).

SILVALITE and FREDDY OR NOT (K. Fuji) raced wide throughout.

P. Hammersley, rider of REIGN OF COURAGE, was reprimanded for failing to weigh as 5th placegetter.

FORREST DOLL lost its off hind plate in running.

Stewards questioned M. Cahill regarding the performance of TANYA JEAN. M. Cahill explained that, as per his instructions, he restrained the filly in the early stages from the wide barrier. He added that TANYA JEAN was reluctant to stretch out when racing greenly in the early part of the race and for that reason he was some distance from the main body of the field. M. Cahill added that TANYA JEAN raced very greenly for the remainder of the event and, in his view, the filly worked to the line well and will derive benefit from today’s race.

Race 6: Breakfast Creek Cricketers Club Class 5 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Adamon 2nd – Telestah La Vistah 3rd – Cape Chivas 4th – Stud Muffin

HAZELDON (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.

Near the 200m, IMPERSONATOR (S. Katsidis) shifted out and away from ADAMON (C. Munce) and made contact with KEN AND KIM.

HAZELDON raced wide throughout.

STUD MUFFIN proved difficult to ride when attempting to improve between HAZELDON (L. Cassidy) and JUST A CLASSIC (M. Cahill) in the early part of the straight.

Near the 200m, IMPERSONATOR shifted out and away from ADAMON and brushed KEN AND KIM.

Stewards questioned M. Radecker, rider of PRINCE CALLUM, regarding her decision to shift out from a trailing position behind PRINCE CALLUM near the 1000m to a 3-wide position where it raced for the remainder of the event. M. Radecker explained that at that stage PRINCE CALLUM was inclined to overrace and shift ground, so she elected to improve around the field when the pace steadied. Stewards noted the explanation.

S. Katsidis, rider of IMPERSONATOR, and apprentice E. Kehoe, rider of KEN AND KIM, were questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on their respective mounts in the early and middle stages where they shared the leading position and set a fast tempo. E. Kehoe explained that her riding instructions were to lead as the gelding has raced best in the past when ridden in that fashion. She added that she rode aggressively in the early stages, however after being pressured for some distance from the 1400m to approaching the 1000m, she elected to surrender that position to S. Katsidis. E. Kehoe added that when the pace steadied after passing the 1000m, she elected to shift to the outside of IMPERSONATOR in an attempt to carry out her instructions. Stable representative for N. Owen, trainer of KEN AND KIM, confirmed the instructions. S. Katsidis explained that IMPERSONATOR also raced well when ridden forward in previous starts and he rode aggressively from the barriers in an attempt to clear KEN AND KIM, the runner to his inside. He added that he was unable to clear KEN AND KIM and when he attempted to restrain IMPERSONATOR, the horse commenced to overrace so he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward to the lead near the 500m where he intended to slow the tempo in the middle stages, however he was unable to do this as KEN AND KIM improved to his outside and again applied pressure. Trainer L. Clarke confirmed that IMPERSONATOR has raced well in forward positions in previous starts, however did express some disappointment as to the early tempo set. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 7: Bernborough Club Class 3 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Mr Shadow Boxer 2nd – Oscar The Great 3rd – My Counsel 4th – Another Heart

Trainer B. Baker was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for ACADEMY MAGIC by the prescribed time.

XANTHOS (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

HEARTSHAKER (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.

OSCAR THE GREAT (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.

ANOTHER HEART bled during the event. Connections were advised that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
