Race 1: IGT PLATE - 1200m
1st – Hussonator 2nd – Golden Success 3rd – Stalwart Emma 4th - Hentiesbaai

The start of this race was delayed slightly due to the ambulance failing to arrive on course on time.

As apprentice M. Wood was to be overweight, C. McIver was substituted as the rider of GET CLOSER. M. Wood was fined $200 under AR. 120(b) for failing to fulfil his engagement due to being overweight.

TRUST IN ME (D. Tanti) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after had to be steadied when tightened for room between EMEILIUN ROSE (M. Hellyer) and GOLDEN SUCCESS (S. Katsidis), which shifted in after being bumped by HUSSONATOR (M. Cahill).

SARONIC (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly.

HENTIESBAAI (M. Walker) shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with GET CLOSER (C. McIver).

STALWART EMMA (Michael Palmer) raced three deep without cover throughout.

SARONIC raced three wide throughout.

C. Munce, the rider of SARONIC, reported that the horse did not feel comfortable in the going and mid-way around the home turn commenced to hang out and proved disappointing in the run to the finish. Trainer D. Forster advised stewards that she intended to review the horse’s current racing program.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD H’CAP - 1400m
1st – We Are Happy 2nd – Shedaboss 3rd – Serekh 4th – Tycoon Sun

On jumping away SEREKH (L. Cassidy) and LEGALISED (B. Pengelly) were severely crowded between TYCOON SUN (P. Graham) and MISS ELANORA (K. Forrester), which shifted out. As a result of this crowding LEGALISED had to be checked and lost its position.

EDDIE (J. Kropp) shifted out at the start and bumped GRAND HOMME (S. Katsidis), then became unbalanced and shifted in bumping TYCOON SUN.

J. Byrne, the rider of WE ARE HAPPY, was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for allowing his mount to shift in leaving the 900m, placing SHEDABOSS (M. Cahill) in restricted room, which consequently resulted in SHEDABOSS having to be steadied. A short distance later SHEDABOSS then commenced to overrace and shifted out taking EDDIE (J. Kropp) wider on the track.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Katsidis regarding the disappointing performance of GRAND HOMME. S. Katsidis stated that whilst he was forced to travel wide on the track the horse in his opinion at no stage was comfortable in the going and attributed the horse’s poor performance to the rain-affected surface. A post-race veterinary examination of GRAND HOMME failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of LEGALISED revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: HI OCTANE PLATE - 2200m
1st – Enterprise Star 2nd – Starlet O’Hara 3rd – Fear No Other 4th – Famous Fortune

As J. Warrington was ill, M. Walker was substituted as the rider of BRILLIANT CON.

LANDER (J. Byrne) and SLEPNER (M. Morris) were tightened for room at the start between TANZILL (Michael Palmer) and ENTERPRISE STAR (M. Cahill) which shifted inwards.

A post-race veterinary examination of BOLD DISTINCTION (B. Pengelly) revealed no significant abnormalities.

Race 4: CELLARBRATIONS BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK BONUS H’CAP – 1000m
1st – Executive Officer 2nd – One Moment Please 3rd – General Almighty 4th – Tuscanarrow

As M. Walker was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of REGAL ESTATE. M. Walker was fined $100 under AR. 120(b) for failing to fulfil his engagement due to being overweight.

MAUVE LADY, which was injured en route to the track, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon who reported that the filly had sustained lacerations to its near fore fetlock and off hind cannon. Acting on the advice of the veterinary surgeon, stewards declared MAUVE LADY a late scratching at 1.10 p.m.

MOMENT BY MOMENT (B. Stewart) and DEFINE EASY (K. Fuji) were slow to begin.

RASCAL (J. Kropp) jumped away awkwardly.

GENERAL ALMIGHTY (J. Byrne) and HUFF AND PUFF (M. Hellyer) were tightened for room on jumping away between TUSCANARROW (B. El-Issa) and CHICKATILLA (L. Rolls), both of which shifted ground.

After taking evidence from J. Taylor (REGAL ESTATE), B. Stewart (MOMENT BY MOMENT) and apprentice L. Rolls (CHICKATILLA), an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding apprentice J. Kropp being dislodged from RASCAL near the 650m was adjourned until a later date.

MOMENT BY MOMENT (B. Stewart) hung out rounding the home turn.

REGAL ESTATE (J. Taylor) laid in when placed under pressure in the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage in testing that horse.

Race 5: CARLTON MID H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Web Of Love 2nd – Pumplechook 3rd – Incendio 4th – Prince Hattal

INCENDIO (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.

MEASURED (R. Wiggins) commenced to overrace in the early stages and raced wide after leaving the 1000m.

SHAOS (E. Kehoe) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Near the 250m PRINCE HATTAL (J. Letherby) was steadied when disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of STAR STEPPER (D. Browne) which shifted in.

Over the concluding stages LORD ANTOLINI (J. Taylor) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne, the rider of WEB OF LOVE, and stable foreperson T. Edmonds, in regard to the tactics adopted on that filly today. Mr Edmonds stated that he had instructed jockey Byrne to position the horse three or four lengths from the lead in a midfield position if at all possible from the wide barrier. J. Byrne confirmed the instructions and advised stewards that after beginning on terms with the rest of the field it was evident to him in the early stages that he would have difficulty obtaining cover in a midfield position and when the pace was slow he allowed WEB OF LOVE to stride forward to the position outside the leader. Stewards, after viewing the patrol footage, accepted the explanation of J. Byrne.

Race 6: BANKWEST H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Beyond The Limit 2nd – Ephraim Warrior 3rd – Convictor 4th – Navigation

NAVIGATION (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

Near the 1000m GORM THE OLD (B. Stewart) and EPHRAIM WARRIOR (L. Rolls) were tightened for room by TWIGERRE (L. Cassidy), which shifted in when not quite clear.
BARMAZAL (J. Byrne), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence. L. Cassidy was issued with a reprimand.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GORM THE OLD, rider B. Stewart stated that although he was tightened for room in the early stages of the race, GORM THE OLD did not travel comfortably on the rain-affected track and attributed the horse’s poor performance to the track condition. Stable representative S. Hammersley agreed with B. Stewart’s comments, however undertook to advise stewards if anything comes to light in coming days which may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of GORM THE OLD revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7: DIAGEO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Chaste 2nd – Bloomin Thunder 3rd – Deltarara 4th – Guanahani

MISS AMORICA was a late scratching at 12.11 p.m. when stewards acceded to a request by trainer D. Bell to scratch the horse due to the downgrading of the track.

SEQSATIONAL was a late scratching at 3.42 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on advice from the trainer that a veterinary examination had shown that the mare was exhibiting signs of the onset of a virus.

FALLING STAR (B. El-Issa) was tightened for room at the start between DELTARARA (S. Katsidis) and SEETHING DUCK (M. Cahill), which shifted out on jumping away.

Approaching the 1000m MISS OCTOBER (P. Graham) shifted in and away from CHASTE (M. Wood), taking CELESTAFY (K. Fuji) in on to SEVENSPANISHANGELS (G. Colless), which in turn was taken in on to SEETHING DUCK, which had to be checked. FALLING STAR, which was following, also had to be steadied and alter course to avoid the heels of SEETHING DUCK. A short distance later CHASTE shifted in when not quite clear of MISS OCTOBER, which was still racing ungenerously, resulting in that horse having to be steadied. Apprentice M. Wood was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a).

Leaving the 1000m FALLING STAR improved up on to the heels of DELTARARA and had to be steadied.
