Race 1: TWITTER.COM/BRISBANERACINGCLUP H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Telestah La Vistah 2nd – Web Of Love 3rd – Pumplechook 4th – Shezahotshot
As no other rider was available at the weight, stewards permitted apprentice E. Kehoe to replace M. Radecker on TELESTAH LA VISTAH.
The start of this race was delayed when TELESTAH LA VISTAH (E. Kehoe) broke through the front of the barrier stalls prior to the start being effected. TELESTAH LA VISTAH was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
A further delay was caused when WEB OF LOVE (J. Byrne), which became cast, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently passed suitable to race.
USE TO BE A DANCER (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
C. Munce reported that MONCALIERI failed to handle the track condition today. A post-race veterinary examination of MONCALIERI revealed a small laceration to the offside stifle.
B. El-Issa, the rider of BEAUTIFUL, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
Race 2: NOVA 106.9FM H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Ausworld 2nd – Eureka 3rd – Break The Ice 4th – Mr Shadow Boxer
EUREKA (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn EUREKA (B. El-Issa) raced in restricted room when attempting a run to the inside of AUSWORLD (B. Stewart). EUREKA, after being held up in the early part of the straight was able to establish running to the inside of AUSWORLD near the 350m.
Approaching the 300m DANARDOS (J. Wood) shifted out, momentarily tightening the running of LEICA LION (M. Heagney). Apprentice J. Wood was advised that in future he must stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
M. Cahill reported that MR SHADOW BOXER failed to handle today’s rain-affected surface. MR SHADOW BOXER lost its near fore plate in running.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne, the rider of PROST, in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of that gelding. J. Byrne stated that the horse travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages, however when he asked the horse for an effort it failed to respond and he was of the opinion that the horse did not handle the prevailing track conditions when asked to accelerate. A post-race veterinary examination of PROST failed to reveal any abnormalities.
B. El-Issa pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(i) of using the whip in a forehand manner on EUREKA on one occasion in consecutive strides prior to the 100m and was fined $100.
Race 3: BUNDABERG RED PLATE - 1400m
1st – Shedaboss 2nd – Golden Hut 3rd – Australias Finest 4th – Mount Freedom
Apprentice E. Kehoe reported that AUSTRALIAS FINEST, which was having its first start in blinkers today, overraced in the early and middle stages, which resulted in the saddle shifting forward passing the 1000m.
DEKARNAGE (S. Bogenhuber) and MOUNT FREEDOM (J. Wood) were slow to begin.
GOLDEN HUT (M. Wood), SIR GRAHAME (B. Stewart) and SEREKH (G. Colless) were all severely crowded for room and had to be checked shortly after the start between MIDNIGHT MAX (Michael Palmer), which shifted out slightly, and CURRENT AFFAIR (M. Walker), which shifted in after jumping away awkwardly.
CURRENT AFFAIR raced fiercely approaching the first turn and had to be steadied from the heels of PERSIAN SEA (D. Griffin).
SHEDABOSS (J. Holder) raced three deep without cover.
SIR GRAHAME raced wide throughout.
GOLDEN HUT shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages and near the 200m tightened the running of SIR GRAHAME. GOLDEN HUT continued to shift in under pressure and made contact with HIPERSONA (M. Heagney) approaching the 150m.
SIR GRAHAME lost its off hind plate during running.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill regarding the performance of WESTERN RUN. M. Cahill stated that whilst the horse was not comfortable on today’s rain-affected surface, he added that the horse in his opinion was reluctant to hold its position inside other runners and may be better suited when racing to the outside.
Race 4: FACEBOOK.COM/BRISBANERACINGCLUB H’CAP - 1830m
1st – Iluva Queenslander 2nd – Will Impress 3rd – My Counsel 4th – Ken And Kim
E. Wilkinson reported that passing the 1200m MAURIES PICK faltered in its action and as a result he was obliged to retire the horse from the event. A post-race veterinary examination of MAURIES PICK revealed that the gelding had broken down in the near fore tendon. Stewards advised E. Wilkinson that in similar circumstances, if at all possible, he should restrain his mount and dismount.
A post-race veterinary examination of THE HAND OF FAITH (B. El-Issa), which compounded over the concluding stages to finish a distant last, revealed no significant abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the performance of JUST A PICCOLO, J. Bowditch stated that the horse began well but did not travel during the early and middle stages as he would have liked, and passing the 700m he was forced to apply pressure to JUST A PICCOLO in order to hold his position. J. Bowditch added that the horse failed to respond from that point onwards and proved very disappointing.
Race 5: STUDENT FLIGHTS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Deltarara 2nd – Chaste 3rd – Bloomin Thunder 4th – Graciosa
Near the 1000m MOSSCEDES (C. Munce) was tightened for room between DELTARARA (M. Cahill), which shifted out slightly, and EASY PLAY (J. Byrne), which shifted inwards.
Apprentice M. Wood, the rider of CHASTE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), in that leaving the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MISS OCTOBER (C. McIver), resulting in that horse being forced in on to the hind quarters of KLAIREFONTEIN (S. Seamer), causing that horse to shift out, resulting in MISS OCTOBER having to be checked when tightened for room between CHASTE and KLAIREFONTEIN. DIVA DANCE (L. Cheshire), which was following, was hampered as a consequence. M. Wood’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at the expiration of the term of suspension commencing on 11 August, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 4 September 2010. Stewards further ordered that under the provisions of AR. 92A apprentice M. GRAN TORINO (P. Wolfgram) took fright when BUFFERING (G. Colless) became fractious in the barriers and broke through the front of the barrier stalls, dislodging its rider. GRAN TORINO galloped for some distance and was subsequently withdrawn at 3.11 p.m. by stewards acting on the veterinary surgeon’s advice. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on GRAN TORINO be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply.
Shortly after the start PROJECTS (J. Taylor) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between SWEET SERA (Michael Palmer) and SLICE AND DICE (M. Cahill) which shifted in.
C. McIver, the rider of SISTER HAVANA, reported that the mare did not travel comfortably at any stage during the course of the event and in his opinion failed to handle the rain-affected track. Trainer L. Birchley agreed, however undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of SISTER HAVANA (C. McIver) revealed no abnormalities.
Apprentice J. Wood was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on MIEKO'S DIAMOND on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.
A post-race veterinary examination of SWEET SERA revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg.
