Phillips confirmed his disappointment in DANE GIGGLE, however was unable to offer any explanation for the performance and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent which may have had a bearing on today’s performance. When questioned, jockey J. Byrne stated he was at a loss to explain the poor performance of FAWZA. He added that despite being positioned wide on the track he was satisfied in that the horse was racing with cover. J. Byrne further stated he commenced to place FAWZA under pressure rounding the home turn and at this point it failed to respond and proved disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer S. Ryan was unable to offer any excuse for the performance of FAWZA, however undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. Race 5: Bernborough Club Class 5 H'cap – 1846m

EDDIE RAPIDO (J. Bowditch) and XANTHOS (Matthew Palmer) were both slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn GREIG (A. Spinks) and STAR OF AMY (L. Cumberland) were held up behind the tiring ROYAL HOPE (L. Rolls), and at a point leaving the 400m, GREIG shifted in to obtain clear running and in doing so forced STAR OF AMY to be steadied.
Stewards questioned apprentice T. Bell regarding the tactics adopted on JESS SAR BELLE as well as the overall performance of the horse. Of particular concern to stewards was that after obtaining a forward position during the early stages trailing STORM VEIL, he then lost ground and allowed MORE ON THE TOE and EDDIE RAPIDO to cross his running at a point near the 1300m, and further that after being in a position behind EDDIE RAPIDO, he continued to lose ground until being positioned at the 800m some 3 lengths in arrears of EDDIE RAPIDO and was then forced wider on the track as XANTHOS shifted wider. Apprentice Bell stated that it had not been his intention to be in a forward position early and had not pressured the horse to obtain this position. He added he had been instructed to ride JESS SAR BELLE in the second half of the field and was therefore satisfied to allow the horse to relinquish its position behind STORM VEIL. He further stated that as the pace quickened during the middle stages, he felt it would be detrimental to the mare’s chances to pressure the horse too early to remain behind EDDIE RAPIDO. He added that he was satisfied his actions had not affected the horse’s overall performance which, in his opinion, was disappointing as the mare failed to run on in the straight as expected. Trainer Mr R. Heathcote confirmed these instructions and added that he was satisfied with the manner in which apprentice Bell had ridden the mare, however was disappointed in the overall performance of the horse, and further advised stewards he would have a veterinary examination of JESS SAR BELLE carried out and have blood samples taken in the coming days and advise stewards of the results of same. A post race veterinary examination of JESS SAR BELLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

CLANGOR (R. McMahon) was held up rounding the home turn.
When questioned regarding the below-market expectation performance of POWER OF ED, J. Byrne stated that, in his opinion, the horse may not have appreciated the today’s firm racing surface. He added that when placed under pressure he felt that POWER OF ED was reluctant to stretch out in the home straight, however he was unable to offer any further explanation. Trainer Mrs H. page confirmed her disappointment in the performance and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination of POWER OF ED failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Laycock was advised that an official warning will now be placed upon the raccing manners of MATILLA BAY.
A short distance later MATILLA BAY shifted out across the heels of FLEET RIANE and had to be checked from that horse’s heels.
Near the 800m, LUMINOUS HARMONY (J. Byrne) shifted out around the heels of SARABAH ROSE (M. Hughes), forcing KUMALI (G. Geran) wider on the track. KUMALI raced wide from that point onwards.

G Geran was reprimanded for this incident.
FELONY FLIGHT (J. Bowditch) and MATILLA BAY (N. Thomas) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned trainer T. Sears regarding the improved performance of FELONY FLIGHT. Mr Sears stated that at the horse’s most recent start, in his opinion, the mare did not handle racing on the synthetic surface and that this resulted in the poor performance. He added that FELONY FLIGHT races better on the grass surface and that it was his intention to restrict the horse’s future races to grass surfaces. The comments were noted.
Jockey L. Cassidy was questioned regarding the below-market expectation performance of SUMMER DUCK. He stated that the horse travelled well in running, however after obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight, SUMMER DUCK WOOD failed to run on as expected and could offer no tangible explanation for the performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
