SUPPLEMENTARY
Owing to apprentice M. Wood’s recent spate of absenteeism due to injury, stewards, in consultation with apprentice Wood, ordered that he be stood down under AR. 81F(2) until such time as he provides specialist medical evidence indicating that he has overcome the injury to his left knee and is fit to undertake normal race riding duties.
From SCTC 10.2.12 – Race 4: Apprentice T. Harrison was fined $100 for failing to fulfil her engagement on GO CART due to having riding commitments at Ipswich.
Race 1: WWW.BRC.COM.AU OPEN H’CAP - 2136m
1st – Winmara 2nd – Gold Rating 3rd – Za Magic 4th – Honourable Aussie
ZA MAGIC (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early and middle stages to a point after passing the 1200m where ZA MAGIC was shifted wider on the track and allowed to stride forward to the lead.
Near the 1400m THE CLANDY MAN CAN (J. Brown), which was overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of ZA MAGIC. As a result, THE CLANDY MAN CAN shifted out taking JAZZ HEART (J. Byrne) momentarily wider on the track.
S. Galloway (WINMARA) dropped his whip approaching the 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation for the performance of HONOURABLE AUSSIE. Apprentice T. Bell stated that his intention was always to lead but he was not completely satisfied with the manner in which the horse travelled in that it carried its head quite high during running. T. Bell added that whilst the horse was held up in the early part of the straight, once he provided the horse with clear running, it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Apprentice Bell further added that the month between runs may have had an effect on the horse’s performance today. Stable representative Mr B. Killian reported that HONOURABLE AUSSIE is best when able to lead unchallenged and felt that the mid-race move by ZA MAGIC to take up the lead did not suit HONOURABLE AUSSIE. Mr Killian added that the horse was having its first start over this distance and may not have run out the trip. Mr Killian informed stewards that it was likely the stable would bring the horse back in distance for its next start.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed FIFTEEN CARAT (G. Colless) to be slightly lame in the off foreleg and to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer H. Wilson will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an endoscopic examination, would be required prior to the horse’s next race start.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to DEAD 4 retrospective.
Race 2: XXXX GOLD QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Craiglea Tequila 2nd – Christine 3rd – Marsa 4th – Holey Gadoley
CHRISTINE (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly and bumped WATTLE WARRIOR (G. Colless).
OUTBACK FIGHTER (T. Bell) bucked shortly after the start, losing considerable ground. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start.
HOLEY GADOLEY (J. Stanley) had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between RATTLE THE TIN (L. Cheshire) and WACO OPTION (M. Hellyer), which shifted in.
MARSA (B. Richardson) travelled wide throughout.
Near the 200m CHRISTINE had to steady and alter course around the heels of the tiring WACO OPTION.
G. Colless reported that WATTLE WARRIOR was under heavy pressure rounding the home turn and after being tested for a short distance into the straight commenced to compound badly and became very awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination of WATTLE WARRIOR revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the horse’s next start.
C. Munce reported that SINUSOIDAL was one paced to the line and he believed it would be advantaged by a step up in distance.
Race 3: SKY RACING 0MW H’CAP - 1830m
1st – Noble Jester 2nd – No Shackles 3rd – Murrumba Downs 4th – Daad’s Overtime
Connections advised that from the wide alley it would be the intention to have GOLDCAT (M. Hellyer) ridden further back. The horse was ridden accordingly.
MR TESTA (R. McMahon) blundered on jumping away.
Near the 1600m NO SHACKLES (J. Taylor) had to be steadied from the heels of OBJECT OF VIRTUE (J. Watkins) which shifted in.
DUEL SHOW (J. Stanley) raced wide throughout.
Near the 1400m DUEL SHOW got its head in the air when being restrained from the heels of START AGAIN (T. Bell).
MR TESTA overraced at the heels of MULE FORTY SIX (C. Pye) during the middle stages.
DAAD’S OVERTIME (G. Colless) was impeded for clear running for a short distance inside the 300m when placed in restricted room between MULE FORTY SIX and NO SHACKLES, which shifted in slightly.
GOLDCAT was held up and unable to secure clear running over the final 100m.
A post-race veterinary examination of MR TESTA revealed the gelding to have struck itself on the off fore heel.
Apprentice T. Bell, the rider of START AGAIN, which performed below expectations, informed stewards that from his wide barrier he was obliged to ride the horse forward when trapped wide and after reaching a position one off the fence just behind the speed, the horse travelled well. Apprentice Bell added that he placed the horse under pressure from leaving the 500m, however it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Apprentice Bell added that the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that START AGAIN did not perform at its best when forced to race inside other horses. A post-race veterinary examination of START AGAIN revealed no abnormalities.
J. Watkins was fined $100 for failing to ride OBJECT OF VIRTUE out to the end of the race.
Race 4: CHANNEL SEVEN CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Santo De Lago 2nd – Emoticon 3rd – Kiss Me Deadly 4th – Sons Of God
I’LLBETRICKED (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
SONS OF GOD (P. Hammersley) had to be steadied shortly after the start when tightened for room between LOOPED (R. McMahon) and CATASHEE (J. Byrne), which was taken out by ACHIEVEMENTS (C. Munce).
R. McMahon, the rider of LOOPED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PIN (S. Thurlow), resulting in that horse having to be steadied and taken in on to PRIMEVAL DEMAND (M. Hellyer), which resulted in PRIMEVAL DEMAND being tightened for room and also having to be steadied. R. McMahon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 12 February, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 19 February 2012. In assessing penalty, stewards acknowledged R. McMahon’s guilty plea, his good riding record and the degree of interference, which was considered to be at the lower level.
EMOTICON (A. Best) and SANTO DE LAGO (G. Colless) raced fiercely for a short distance approaching and passing the 1000m.
R. McMahon (LOOPED) dropped his whip leaving the 200m.
Rider J. Byrne and trainer D. Bell were afforded the opportunity of explaining the performance of CATASHEE. J. Byrne stated that the horse did not show its customary early speed and as a result settled in a rearward position. J. Byrne added that the horse did not feel comfortable to him and did not accelerate when asked for an effort in the home straight. Mr Bell stated that he was disappointed with the mare’s effort and he informed stewards that he intended to spell the horse immediately. A post-race veterinary examination of CATASHEE revealed no abnormalities.
Trainer T. Edmonds informed stewards that in light of the performance of ACHIEVEMENTS today he intended to spell the horse.
ACHIEVEMENTS lost its near hind plate in running.
PIN lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 5: ST MARGARET’S ANGLICAN GIRLS SCHOOL BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – General Purple 2nd – Bingo Rose 3rd – Catch The Light 4th – Mount Kosciuszko
TITANIUM ROCK (M. Wood) jumped away awkwardly.
SAM’S TOWN (J. Byrne) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
HANDSUPFORDETROIT (J. Brown) was tightened for room on jumping away between DRUMSHANBO (B. Richardson) and TEA TATTLE (D. Browne), both of which shifted ground.
JUST A PICCOLO (J. Stanley) blundered on jumping away.
SAVE A BUCK (M. McGuren) began awkwardly and lost ground.
M. Hellyer, the rider of BINGO ROSE, was issued with a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of JUST A PICCOLO, resulting in that horse being taken inwards, which further resulted in TITANIUM ROCK having to be checked when tightened for room. After considering submissions from jockey Hellyer, stewards were of the view that the racing manners of EXPLORE THE WORLD (N. Thomas) shifting in and away from SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (L. Cassidy) had a bearing on this incident and therefore did not sustain the charge. M. Hellyer was reminded to at all times show regard to his fellow riders when shifting ground in future.
Near the 900m SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET, which had commenced to overrace, shifted in resulting in EXPLORE THE WORLD having to be steadied. SAVE A BUCK, which was trailing, also had to be steadied as a consequence. SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.
When the pace steadied near the 800m SAM’S TOWN, SAVE A BUCK and DRUMSHANBO all commenced to overrace. DRUMSHANBO shifted out when being restrained, resulting in HANDSUPFORDETROIT having to be steadied from that horse’s heels.
SLICE AND DICE (R. McMahon), SAM’S TOWN, MAGIC TARTAN (T. Bell) and TEA TATTLE raced wide throughout.
Race 6: AAMI H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Mr Armstrong 2nd – The Sixties 3rd – Tierqualo 4th – Essington
ESSINGTON (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
GOD’S WINDOW (P. Hammersley) raced three wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of MONDEAN (J. Byrne), which compounded over the concluding stages, revealed the horse to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for MONDEAN prior to its next start.
Race 7: LYNDHURST STUD F&M H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Crystal Doll 2nd – Cariad 3rd – Risk Aversion 4th – Whateverwhenever
Subject to any further submissions from trainer L. Birchley, a fine of $100 will be imposed for the late declaration of D. Browne as the rider of WHATEVERWHENEVER.
As a veterinary clearance had not been provided, PARIS BLU (S. Galloway) was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Trainer B. Baldwin was issued with a reprimand for failing to provide the relevant clearance.
PARIS BLU and BIANCA JEWEL (R. Wiggins) were tightened for room shortly after the start between JUST DESTINY (E. Wilkinson) and CRYSTAL DOLL (K. Wharton), which shifted in.
Approaching the first turn AL FAHER (R. McMahon) and JASMINKA (L. Cassidy) were forced to race in restricted room to the inside of MULTIRE MUSIC (J. Taylor), which shifted in. As a result, AL FAHER had to be steadied which resulted in WHATEVERWHENEVER (D. Browne), which was trailing AL FAHER, having to be checked from that horse’s heels. J. Taylor was reprimanded and advised to provide greater clearance to his fellow riders in future.
BIANCA JEWEL and JUST DESTINY raced wide throughout.
For some distance leaving the 350m RISK AVERSION (C. Munce) had difficulty obtaining clear running when placed awkwardly at the heels of the tiring PARIS BLU and to the inside of MULTIRE MUSIC, which was laying in when tiring.
Race 8: SKY INTERNATIONAL QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Double Impact 2nd – Kilwinning Option 3rd – Empress Me 4th – Dazzle Us
Connections advised that WIN FOR LAYLA (T. Bell) would be ridden closer to the lead if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Near the 1200m GRANZELLA (J. Taylor), which was overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of WINDSPLITTER (S. Galloway). EL JACKINO (P. Hammersley), which was following, also had to be steadied. GRANZELLA then continued to overrace.
BLACK CASH (D. Browne) and EL JACKINO raced wide throughout.
Near the 300m EMPRESS ME (R. Wiggins), after being struck with the whip, shifted out abruptly resulting in WINDSPLITTER and WIN FOR LAYLA both having to be checked. As stewards were satisfied that R. Wiggins immediately corrected his mount once the shift occurred, no direct action was taken.
