SUPPLEMENTARY

From Deagon Offices 13.8.12: Trainer P. Dawson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175 (q) in that on the morning of Wednesday 8 August 2012 at Eagle Farm Racecourse he placed his hands on licensed trainer Mr B. Dais without Mr Dais' consent which in the opinion of the Stewards amounted to improper conduct. Mr Dawson was fined the sum of $1000, $600 of which was suspended for 12 months under LR 22 (f). In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Dawson's good record in relation to his conduct over 40 years in the racing industry along with his remorse and forthright evidence.

Race 1: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO F&M MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Cuddlesome 2nd – Crocodile Dancer 3rd – Elusive Storm 4th – Soft Angel

ONE LAST WHIFF (M. Hellyer) jumped awkwardly, made contact with the hind quarters of ONLY ONE ANNIE (J. Taylor) and lost ground.

CUDDLESOME (A. Allen), ELUSIVE STORM (M. Vance) and EMMZ AMELIA (G. Lynch) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

In the early and middle stages DON’T TELL CYRIL (K. Matheson) raced ungenerously and had a tendency to get its head in the air.

Approaching the 1000m TZIGANY (L. Cassidy) shifted in resulting in CUDDLESOME being taken in on to LASSILA (J. Byrne), which had to be steadied momentarily. L. Cassidy was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

For some distance passing the 600m SOFT ANGEL (S. Galloway) raced fiercely and had a tendency to lay out and near the 500m became awkwardly placed on the heels of CROCODILE DANCER (C. Munce) for some distance.

SOFT ANGEL and CUDDLESOME laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Upon returning to scale apprentice M. Vance reported that her mount ELUSIVE STORM laid in badly in the home straight, placing her at a disadvantage in full testing the mare.

M. Cahill reported that TALE OF HARMONY was fractious in the barriers after being boxed and a short time before the start was effected the mare took a backward step and as a result missed the start badly.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne regarding the performance of LASSILA. Jockey Byrne stated that the mare travelled comfortably until placed under pressure in the home straight where it responded to his riding to a point passing the 200m where it weakened. J. Byrne added that in his opinion LASSILA did not run out a strong 1400m first up from a break from racing.

Trainer L. Tipper was advised that a warning would be placed on ONE LAST WHIFF for that mare hanging out for a major part of the race.

S. Andrew, the trainer of OUR SPECIAL ANGEL, which compounded in the home straight, reported that the mare was suffering a seasonal complaint following the race. He also informed stewards that he planned to spell the mare.

Race 2: BARRIER REEF POOLS C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Mishani Warrior 2nd – Caellum 3rd – Hitman Harry 4th – Betican

GANGSTA GEORGE (M. Hellyer), ROCKIN PARTY (M. Vance) and HERE’S GEORGE (L. Cassidy) were slow to begin.

BETICAN (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with SOHO NIGHTS (D. Tanti). BETICAN then shifted in resulting in STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER (J. Letherby) and PURRFECTLYFEARLESS (A. Pattillo) being tightened for room between BETICAN and MISHANI WARRIOR (R. McMahon).

Near the 1100m BETICAN, when racing greenly, shifted in away from HITMAN HARRY (T. Bell), resulting in GANGSTA GEORGE being tightened and making contact with the running rail.

Near the 1000m STRONGMAN (J. Byrne), after being momentarily tightened by IN BANGKOK (G. Colless), raced fiercely for a short distance and had to be restrained by its rider.

SWISS AIR (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn SIR JOEL (J. Taylor) shifted out from the heels of SOHO NIGHTS and made contact with the hind quarters of MISHANI WARRIOR, resulting in MISHANI WARRIOR becoming unbalanced.

For some distance inside the 400m SIR JOEL and HITMAN HARRY made contact when contesting the same run between MISHANI WARRIOR and SOHO NIGHTS.

Approaching the 200m SOHO NIGHTS shifted in of its own accord and became awkwardly placed on the heels of RELENTLESS HEART (C. Munce).

A post-race veterinary examination of SWISS AIR revealed that the gelding was slightly short in its action in front and that it had lost the nearside hind plate.

Race 3: BUNDABERG RUM SELECT VAT CLASS 6 PLATE - 1600m
1st – From London 2nd – Equissential 3rd – Casse Sqarette 4th – Vivaheart

CROSS THE STAR (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

CASSE SQARETTE (A. Allen) and NOVASPUR (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

Between the 700m and the 600m CROSS THE STAR lost ground when awkwardly placed at the heels of ROSEWATER (R. Hurdle) when that runner commenced to weaken.

EQUISSENTIAL (J. Byrne) was held up rounding the home turn.

A post-race veterinary examination RUGGED RANGES (E. Wilkinson) revealed the horse to be exhibiting a poorer than normal post-race recovery rate. Subsequently trainer L. Treloar advised stewards that the horse would now be retired from racing.

A warning was placed on REVITALISE (M. Vance) in regards to its pre-race behaviour when it was reluctant to proceed to the barrier stalls.

Trainer S. Andrew reported that CROSS THE STAR will now be sent for a spell.

Race 4: SIRROMET LOVE MY WINE QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Rocky King 2nd – Shamrock Slipper 3rd – Palais Court 4th – The Storeman

The start of this race was delayed when PARSNIPS dislodged its rider apprentice K. Matheson during the preliminary and galloped for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered that PARSNIPS be withdrawn at 1.41 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PARSNIPS be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1.41 p.m.

6 cents in the dollar for the Win – ROCKY KING
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner - ROCKY KING
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – SHAMROCK SLIPPER
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – PALAIS COURT

The start of the race was again delayed when MISHANI LADYHAWKE (L. Cassidy) required the attention of the farrier after arriving at the barriers.

WHO WILL (B. Richardson) jumped out at the start, making contact with PERFECT GLORY (J. Letherby). WHO WILL then shifted in and bumped THE STOREMAN (R. McMahon).

A short distance after the start MISHANI LADYHAWKE had to be checked and lost its position when PORT RAIDER (J. Stanley) shifted in and away from ROCKY KING (C. Pye) despite the efforts of its rider.

When the field reached the course proper, THE STOREMAN shifted out taking WHO WILL out on to PERFECT GLORY, which had to be steadied.

HEADLESS (C. Munce) and SHAMROCK SLIPPER (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.

ROCKY KING laid out rounding the home turn.

From the 400m until passing the 200m PALAIS COURT (E. Wilkinson) had difficulty securing clear running.

PERFECT GLORY had difficulty securing clear running between the 250m and approaching the 100m.

ROCKY KING shifted its ground outwards appreciably over the concluding stages.

Race 5: BUNDABERG RED RUM F&M 0MW H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Newborn 2nd – Outback Legend 3rd – Golden Trinkets 4th – Pure Purrfection

Between the 300m and the 100m ZEKEZA (J. Byrne) was held up for clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of TABASSI (G. Colless), which had commenced to weaken.

C. Munce (PURE PURRFECTION) was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to improve into a run near the 200m where there was insufficient room, which resulted in PURE PURRFECTION making heavy contact with BAY ALERT (N. Paine), taking that runner out on to WILD PROMISES (E. Wilkinson). When considering the matter, stewards acknowledged a slight shift from FUNNY FALVE (A. Allen), the runner to the immediate inside of PURE PURRFECTION.

G. Colless reported that TABASSI was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider C. Munce and trainer of PURE PURRFECTION, T. Gollan, in respect to what appeared to be a change of riding tactics on the mare today. After considering the evidence provided, stewards charged and found T. Gollan guilty of failing to inform the stewards of a change of riding tactics as required by AR. 135A. A fine of $300 was imposed.

Race 6: BUNDABERG FIVE WHITE RUM COUNTRY CUP (SPECIAL CONDITIONS) 1MW H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Choral 2nd – Nickiera 3rd – Pegunny Cat 4th – Solebid

As C. Maund was ill, A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY.

As R. McMahon was to be overweight, L. Rolls was substituted as the rider of TACKER. R. McMahon was fined $200.

USAIN PRINCE (A. Gibbons) was slow to begin.

PEGUNNY CAT (J. Stanley) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of TACKER (L. Rolls).

CONVICTOR (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.

Apprentice K. Matheson, the rider of BRIGADOON JACK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SCARBANK (G. Lynch), resulting in that runner being taken in on to the rightful running of RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (B. Richardson), resulting in that horse being checked when tightened between SCARBANK and NICKIERA (C. Munce). Apprentice Matheson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 18 August, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 26 August 2012.

BRIGADOON JACK (K. Matheson), SCARBANK, DANEODIN (T. Bell) and USAIN PRINCE raced wide throughout.

PEGUNNY CAT was held up when unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn.

Race 7: THE NORMANBY HOTEL QUALITY H’CAP - 1300m
1st – Craiglea Falcon 2nd – Motspur 3rd – War Ends 4th – Prost

RIVER LAD (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out resulting in SHEKINAAR (J. Byrne) being taken out across the heels of MISS BARWANG (E. Wilkinson).

RIVER LAD, WAR ENDS (G. Lynch) and SHEKINAAR raced wide throughout.

Near the 1000m THE RINGMASTER (R. McMahon) shifted in and momentarily tightened the running of RIVER LAD, which was taken in and made contact on two occasions with OLLIE VOLLIE (A. Gibbons).

Approaching and passing the 600m PROST (C. Munce) improved up on to the heels of OLLIE VOLLIE and had to be steadied.

SKATING ON ICE (A. Pattillo) had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 100m.

OLLIE VOLLIE was unable to secure clear running at any stage in the home straight and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

Race 8: BUNDABERG RUM C,G&E 0MW H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Spurtastic 2nd – Jopa 3rd – One Outed 4th – Blow A Kiss

After travelling a short distance PUNJAB ROCKET (R. Hurdle) shifted in away from CRYON (M. Hellyer) and made heavy contact with SILVER COMMAND (J. Byrne). This resulted in PUNJAB ROCKET becoming unbalanced and losing ground.

ALL THAT (A. Butler), LONE ASSASSIN (R. McMahon) and BYMNASHEE (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

Near the 300m PUNJAB ROCKET improved up on to the heels of FOREST REDGUM (L. Cassidy) and shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of SILVER COMMAND. PUNJAB ROCKET then became unbalanced and made contact with FOREST REDGUM and SILVER COMMAND on several occasions thereafter.

R. McMahon reported that LONE ASSASSIN hung out for a major part of the race and did not feel entirely comfortable in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of LONE ASSASSIN revealed no abnormalities.

IT’S ELEMENTARY (M. Gray) bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer P. Duff was advised that as this was the first time the horse has bled, it will be ineligible to race for a period of 3 months and must gallop satisfactorily over at least 1000m in the presence of a steward before being permitted to resume racing.

Stewards sought an explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of PUNJAB ROCKET. Apprentice R. Hurdle stated that the horse received contact from another runner shortly after the start and became unbalanced and therefore did not take up its customary position towards the lead. He believed that the horse did not then appreciate having to race in amongst other runners and raced quite greenly. Trainer H. Kilner confirmed that the horse had not previously raced back in the field and it may not have appreciated having to do so. A post-race veterinary examination of PUNJAB ROCKET revealed that the gelding had sustained deep lacerations to both hind fetlocks.
