Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1000m
1st – Grey Countess 2nd – Epsilon 3rd – Rusty Colours 4th – Nicked And Court

CALEDONIA’S CALL (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly.

NICKED AND COURT (P. Schmidt) and TIP TOP TIGER (M. Cahill) came together on jumping away.

CAIDEN’S COMMAND (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.

EPSILON (M. Vance) hung out making the home turn, taking CRAIGLEA CRUZ (K. Wharton) and GREY COUNTESS (T. Bell) wider. This allowed RUSTY COLOURS (J. Byrne) to improve to the inside of EPSILON.

EPSILON hung out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Stewards afforded M. Cahill the opportunity to comment on the performance of TIP TOP TIGER, which was below market expectations. He stated that the colt was unable to muster sufficient early speed and laid in during the first 200m. He added that, in his opinion, TIP TOP TIGER was doing its best work late in the race and would be suited to races over longer distances.
A post race veterinary examination of TIP TOP TIGER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

T. Bell, rider of GREY COUNTESS, was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.

The veterinary surgeon also reported that an examination of EPSILON following the race revealed the filly to have cheek ulcers. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for EPSILON prior to its next race start.

Race 2: GOA Get Noticed! Open H'cap - 2100m
1st – Bid Spotter 2nd – Sam’s Town 3rd – Count Encosta 4th – Flying Home

DAMASHQUI was declared a late scratching at 7.42 am on veterinary advice.

K. Matheson (RANDOM) was reprimanded for weighing out without irons.

COUNT ENCOSTA (D. Browne) and FLYING HOME (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.

M. Cahill reported that following the event the pattern of the race disadvantaged his mount, FLYING HOME.

Race 3: Mittys Open H'cap - 1500m
1st – Rock Home 2nd – Clever Hans 3rd – Gold Shears 4th – What Happenedhenry

WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with PATTIES MATE (G. Goold).

Near the 200m, ACHIEVEMENTS (P. Hammersley) had to be checked when tightened for room between LOCK IT IN EDDIE (M. Vance) and WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY.

ACHIEVEMENTS overraced in the middle stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey P. Hammersley and trainer D. Hansen regarding the disappointing performance of ACHIEVEMENTS. P. Hammersley stated that whilst the horse appeared disappointing on face value, he believed the pattern of the race did not suit ACHIEVEMENTS, outlining that the pace of the race in the middle stages was quite steady, and ACHIEVEMENTS had difficulty sprinting off this slow pace. Trainer D. Hansen expressed his disappointment, however concurred with the comments of jockey Hammersley with regard to the pattern of the race being unsuitable. A post race veterinary examination of ACHIEVEMENTS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

L. Cassidy was questioned regarding his riding of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY. He stated that after beginning well and being caught 3 wide he allowed the gelding to stride forward and endeavoured to hold ACHIEVEMENTS wider on the track, however WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY did not accelerate and as a result he was caught in a 3 wide position without cover and was unable to shift back to the fence when CLEVER HANS (P. Schmidt) held its position one off the fence and PATTIES MATE (G. Goold) improved to the inside of CLEVER HANDS. He added that after passing the 1100m he elected to stride forward and positioned to the outside of ACHIEVEMENTS, which was racing ungenerously at that stage. Stewards informed L.Cassidy that, in their view, he was indecisive in the early part of the race and this resulted in him being positioned 3 wide and left no alternative but to maintain this position throughout the race.

Race 4: Bentleys Chartered Accountants NMW H'cap - 1600m
1st – Whitesails 2nd – Kurtley 3rd – Arctic 4th - Playitstraight

Trainer L. Davies was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for KURTLEY by the prescribed time.

The start of the race was delayed when FAITH NO MORE lunged at the gates. FAITH NO MORE was removed from the gates, underwent a veterinary examination and cleared to start.

LOTACHOC (J. Taylor) and PEACE TALKS (G. Goold) were slow to begin.

KURTLEY (J. Lloyd) commenced to overrace leaving the 1300m and near the 1000m improved on to the heels of MY PRIVATE DANCER (P. Schmidt) and had to be steadied.

PLAYITSTRAIGHT (T. Harrison) raced wide throughout.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 3 retrospectively.

Race 5: Sky Racing QTS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Sookie 2nd – Vis A Tergo 3rd – Written Eleison 4th – Noogoora

SOOKIE (T. Bell) and KHAANTANTES (T. Harrison) blundered on jumping away.

TRAKSTAR (M. Vance) was slow to begin.

G. Colless reported at scale that when he was trapped 3 and 4 wide on VIS A TERGO in the early stages of the race he had no option but to restrain the horse to a position towards the rear of the field in order to gain a position closer to the fence.

Near the 1000m, MOMENT OF IMPACT (J. Lloyd) and SMAKATUS (B. Swaffer) came into contact, and SMAKATUS became unbalanced and lost ground. OFFENSE (J. Taylor), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.

Passing the 700m, MOMENT OF IMPACT (J. Lloyd) improved up on to the heels of WRITTEN ELEISON (G. Cooksley). When being restrained, MOMENT OF IMPACT shifted out, resulting in GALLINARI (L. Cassidy) being tightened for room between that horse and AUCHENFLOWER (R. McMahon). As a result, GALLINARI lost ground, resulting in SOOKIE (T. Bell), which was trailing GALLINARI, having to be checked.

Near the 300m, MAJOR MIKE (D. Browne) laid in and away from VIS A TERGO (G. Colless) and made contact with the hind quarters of GALLINARI and had to be checked.

Passing the 200m, GALLINARI was momentarily held up on the heels of AUCHENFLOWER.

OFFENSE (J. Taylor) laid in under pressure in the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage in fully testing the filly.

NOOGOORA BURR (J. Byrne), MAJOR MIKE (D. Browne) and AUCHENFLOWER raced wide throughout.

D. Browne reported at scale MAJOR MIKE laid in despite his efforts in the early stages of the straight and proved most disappointing. Connections advised him that MAJOR MIKE would now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination of MAJOR MIKE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

T. Bell, rider of SOOKIE, was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.

Race 6: Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst Benchmark 85 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Vintage Moss 2nd – Fitness Fanatic 3rd – Bribie 4th - Alcancia

Trainer R. Heathcote reported that PELLEGRINI returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit. Mr Heathcote informed stewards he would consider adding a tongue-tie to the horse’s gear at its next race start.

TRISKELE (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

Near the 700m, VINTAGE MOSS (K. Matheson) shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of FELONY FLIGHT (P. Hammersley), resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

T. Harrison reported that NICKIERA had a tendency to lay out and proved difficult to ride.

For some distance leaving the 500m, FITNESS FANATIC (J. Lloyd) had to be restrained from the heels of BRIBIE (D. Browne).

ALCANCIA (R. McMahon) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

BRIBIE had difficulty securing clear running until passing the 250m.

SILVER SCHOLAR (P. Schmidt) laid out rounding the home and continued to do so when placed under pressure in the straight.

Race 7: Coca-Cola Amatil Open H'cap - 1000m
1st – Shafeeq 2nd – Better Than Ready 3rd – Craiglea Falcon 4th – Rocket To Glory

The start of the race was delayed when ROCKET TO GLORY broke through the front of the barriers. The gelding was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. The start was further delayed when BETTER THAN READY proved difficult to load.

THE JACKAL (B. Stewart) reared as the start was affected and lost considerable ground and as a consequence failed to take any competitive part in the race. Trainer K. St Vincent was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required before THE JACKAL would be permitted to start again.

WAR ENDS faltered as the start was effected and a short distance later had to be checked when tightened for room between BETTER THAN READY (R. McMahon) and ROCKET TO GLORY (G. Colless), which shifted out.

G. Colless reported that ROCKET TO GLORY hung out rounding the home turn.

BETTER THAN READY raced wide throughout.

D. Browne reported that LIESELE travelled well until placed under pressure in the early stages of the straight and failed to respond to his riding. He was also of the opinion that there may be something amiss with the mare. A post race veterinary examination of LIESELE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of BETTER THAN READY revealed the horse had been galloped on on the off hind leg.

Race 8: Kedron-Wavell Services Club Class 6 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Tokamk 2nd – Viking Heart 3rd – Longshoreman 4th – Volkhere

PROST overraced in the middle stages.

WRITE CHEEK (P. Schmidt) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 150m, PROST was tightened for room between REVITALISE and VOLKHERE (K. Wharton), which shifted in.
