Race 1: THE AIW PRINTLINK QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1500m

DON ELLA (G. Colless) was tightened for room at the start between SECRET HARMONY (R. McMahon) and ONE EAT ONE (B. El-Issa), which was taken out by OUTBACK LIGHTNING (A. Butler).

ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 500m ARCHITECT became unbalanced after being bumped by OUTSTRIP (K. Matheson), which shifted in, and made contact with the running rail.

OUTBACK LIGHTNING shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.

Trainer L Treloar expressed some disappointment with the performance today of YOU DID WHAT (D. Browne) and indicated that the horse will now be sent for a spell.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of ARCHITECT, rider A. Spinks stated that the horse overraced in the first half of the race, which had contributed to the horse failing to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight.

K. Matheson reported that from the wide barrier he had to settle OUTSTRIP further back than he would have liked and the horse was disappointing with its finishing effort in the home straight.

Following this event the track was upgraded to SLOW 6 retrospective.

Race 2: ROBERT BAX AND ASSOCIATES MAIDEN PLATE - 1400m

HITMAN HARRY (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GUNS BLAZING (E. Wilkinson).

Approaching the 1300m BEIJING DANCER (S. Clipperton) had to be eased when tightened for room between TIGER JET (P. Hammersley) and YASMINA (B. Stewart), which shifted in away from PETA PUMPKINEATER (A. Spinks).

Near the 1100m HITMAN HARRY, when overracing, shifted in away from THAT SNOW ATHLETE (B. El-Issa) and made contact with the hind quarters of PETA PUMPKINEATER.

B. El-Issa, the rider of THAT SNOW ATHLETE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of PETA PUMPKINEATER, which in turn was tightened and taken inwards on to YASMINA, which was also tightened and taken in across the rightful running of TIGER JET, which had to be checked. BEIJING DANCER, which was following TIGER JET, also had to be checked as a consequence. Jockey El-Issa's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence following the expiration of his suspension incurred at Doomben on Wednesday 2 July, being midnight Sunday 14 July, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 28 July 2013.

MOCK ME NOT (M. Payne) raced wide throughout.

THAT SNOW ATHLETE overraced during the middle stages.

Near the 900m THAT SNOW ATHLETE, when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of SOUTHERLY (R. McMahon). R. McMahon was advised to afford his fellow riders greater clearance when shifting ground in future.

Passing the 700m PETA PUMPKINEATER, when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of THAT SNOW ATHLETE, which shifted out and made contact with MOCK ME NOT. PETA PUMPKINEATER continued to overrace for some distance following this incident.

HITMAN HARRY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Approaching the 200m BEIJING DANCER shifted out to obtain clear running and made heavy contact with HITMAN HARRY, which became unbalanced. Apprentice S. Clipperton (BEIJING DANCER) was issued with a reprimand and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

A post-race veterinary examination of TIGER JET revealed the gelding to be slightly lame in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that TIGER JET will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Race 3: HLB MANN JUDD CLASS 6 PLATE - 1200m

THRILLERS (B. El-Issa) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight until approaching the 300m.

After passing the 400m DE DOZEN STARS (A. Holt) became awkward when attempting a run to the inside of CONFIDENT STAR (T. Bell) where there was insufficient room.

On return to scale RUN WITH ME (B. Stewart) was found to have suffered a bleeding attack during the race. As this was the second occasion on which RUN WITH ME had bled, the gelding will incur a lifetime bar from racing.

Apprentice A. Allen reported that AVALADYLUCK hung out for a major part of the race and as a result was obliged to race three wide without cover and shifted much wider on the home turn despite his efforts. A post-race veterinary examination of AVALADYLUCK revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly's racing manners. Mr Kendrick undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the horse's performance.

Race 4: HORIZON SUPERANNUATION ADMINISTRATION SERVICES CLASS 6 PLATE - 1826m

After arriving at the barriers R. McMahon (VIKING HEART) was kicked by another runner. R. McMahon was cleared to take his ride in the race. R. McMahon was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club doctor and riding replacements in Races 7 and 8 were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Consideration was given to two protests lodged, firstly by R. McMahon, the rider of 2nd placegetter VIKING HEART, against MICKEN (M. Payne) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 1600m; and secondly by Ms P. Schmidt, the rider of 4th placegetter EMPRESS ME, against MICKEN being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 500m. In relation to the protest lodged by jockey McMahon, stewards were of the view that near the 1600m MICKEN shifted in slightly away from the heels of PLANETARIUM (P. Hammersley), which resulted in VIKING HEART having to be steadied slightly. Taking into account the subsequent running of the race, stewards were of the view that any interference suffered to VIKING HEART near the 1600m was inconsequential to the outcome of the race and therefore that objection was dismissed.

When considering the objection lodged by apprentice Schmidt against the winner alleging interference near the 500m, stewards were of the view that at that point of the race MICKEN hung in, causing EMPRESS ME to be badly crowded on to the running rail and having to be checked. As the stewards were of the view that the interference suffered by EMPRESS ME exceeded the half length margin between the two horses at the finish, they deemed that that objection be upheld. As a result of this, MICKEN was placed immediately behind EMPRESS ME and therefore the placings were amended to 10, 8, 12, 9.

Subsequently, stewards were satisfied in relation to the first incident near the 1600m that the shift inwards of MICKEN was marginal and took no action. In relation to the incident near the 500m, stewards were of the view that MICKEN shifted in and away from BIG WHEELS (T. Bell), which resulted in EMPRESS ME being tightened on to the running rail and having to be checked. Stewards were satisfied that jockey M. Payne did not exhibit carelessness in her riding of MICKEN at that point and took no action.

EMPRESS ME (P. Schmidt) was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn EQUISSENTIAL (A. Best) endeavoured to shift out from behind CARN (G. Goold) and in doing so bumped PLANETARIUM on two separate occasions.

PLANETARIUM raced wide without cover throughout.

Shortly after straightening BIG WHEELS was severely checked when disappointed for a run between EQUISSENTIAL and CARN, which shifted out marginally.

T. Bell was admonished regarding the language he used after passing the winning post on BIG WHEELS.

Race 5: BANK OF QUEENSLAND NEW FARE BM85 H’CAP - 1500m

Due to the protest hearing in Race 4, this event was rescheduled to 2.36 pm.

When leaving the mounting yard BALLYBIT made heavy contact with the running rail opposite the winning post, resulting in D. Browne being dislodged and BALLYBIT galloping riderless for some distance. BALLYBIT was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2.38 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BALLYBIT be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2.38 pm:

10 cents in the dollar for the Win #5
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8

LOADED (S. Clipperton) and BAQABA (A. Holt) were slow to begin.

BAQABA overraced in the early stages.

PATTIES MATE (G. Goold) raced wide throughout.

Approaching and passing the 1000m, when overracing, DOUBLE IMPACT (P. Schmidt) had to be restrained from the heels of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (G. Colless).

Approaching the 200m CASH 'N' STYLE (K. Matheson) had to alter course to the outside of LOADED in order to improve.

Trainer D. Duryea was advised that DALZAR, which bled from both nostrils during the event, would now incur a lifetime bar from racing as this was the second occasion on which the gelding had bled.

When questioned regarding the performance of PLAYITSTRAIGHT (P. Hammersley), trainer B. Lockwood explained that the horse returned to the enclosure with a slower than normal recovery rate and in his opinion will take benefit from today's race. Mr Lockwood undertook to report to stewards in coming days anything that may explain the disappointing performance.

Race 6: BMAG QUEENSLAND CUP - 3200m

Due to the protest hearing in Race 4 and the running of Race 5 at 2.40 pm, this race was rescheduled to 3.10 pm.

RUNDLE HEIGHTS (Michael Palmer) was slow to begin.

BOREHOLE (A. Spinks) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 2800m GOLD CAPE (M. Hellyer), when overracing, improved on to the heels of BOREHOLE and shifted out, making contact with MUIRFIELD (E. Wilkinson).

B. Rawiller reported at scale that IBICENCO proved disappointing when placed under pressure from the 500m.

M. Payne (TURNER BAYOU) was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to her mount passing the winning post.

Following the running of this race the track was further upgraded to DEAD 5.

Race 7: PMP LIMITED ASCOT H’CAP - 1200m

GRIFFON (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m BENNY'S BUTTONS (R. Wiggins) shifted in away from SHAFEEQ (K. Matheson) and made contact with DOUBTFILLY (D. Browne). DOUBTFILLY was in turn taken in on to the hind quarters of FUNTANTES (B. El-Issa), which resulted in that runner being turned out slightly and DOUBTFILLY having to be checked when tightened for room between that runner and BENNY'S BUTTONS. Stewards were satisfied that this incident was not the result of carelessness by any one rider and no direct action was taken.

METALLURGICAL (T. Bell) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

When asked to explain the performance of DELAGO BOLT, apprentice A. Allen stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages, however once placed under pressure in the straight the gelding failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

BENNY'S BUTTON lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 8: PMP DISTRIBUTION LETTERBOX QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1400m

As B. Stewart had been stood down by the Club doctor following his ride in Race 3, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of ELLAWISDOM.

Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identification Card for SEEN.

HEARTFELT QUEST (A. Spinks) knuckled at the start and lost ground.

ELLAWISDOM (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

SMASHER (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly.

ITCHINTOWIN (R. Wiggins) overraced in the early stages.

FERMENT (K. Matheson) and ITCHINTOWIN raced three wide throughout.

SEEN (T. Bell) pulled hard during the early stages and when the pace steadied approaching the 1000m had to be restrained on a number of occasions from the heels of DANSAL (J. Byrne).

When asked to explain the performance of SEEN, rider T. Bell advised stewards that the horse overraced badly in the early stages and in his opinion was uncomfortable in its action due to the horse having its first start racing in a clockwise direction and as a result had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.

BIG DECISION (P. Hammersley) lost its near hind plate in running.
