GENERAL

As M. Speers was indisposed and M. Cahill overweight, riders changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.


Race 1: XXXX Gold Fillies and Mares Plate - 1400m

MISS KARDASHIAN (A. Holt) and MISS BRAHMA (G. Colless) were slow to begin.

SHATTERING (P. Hammersley), which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by TREECAT MAGIC (R. Jamieson), which shifted in and away from LEUROCITY (B. El-Issa).

LEUROCITY and QUICK WITTED (C. Munce) bumped on jumping away.

TUBE RIDE (M. Palmer) and MISS BRAHMA overraced during the early stages.

Near the 800m, TUBE RIDE improved up onto the heels of AIR OF HEAVEN (J. Byrne) and had to be steadied.

At the entrance to the straight, MISS BRAHMA shifted out and made contact with TUBE RIDE.

DAZZLE ME RED (L. Cassidy) was eased when tightened for room between OUR SEA (B. Stewart) and THE LIGHTWEIGHT (T. Bell), which shifted in slightly near the 300m.

ONLY AMOTHER COULD (C. Schmidt) and EMPRESS EUGENIE (M. Morris) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of WINE BY THE GLASS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 2: The Hamilton Hotel CG&E Maiden Plate - 1400m

The explanation provided by trainer T. Cotsiopoulos for the late arrival of BATTLE PIRATE was accepted by stewards.

SHAFTSMAN, which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

Approaching the 1000m, when the pace of the race slackened, OUTBACK CARLSON (R. Jamieson) shifted to the outside of RACEY LYAN (J. Johnson) and in doing so blundered.

Upon entering the straight, ALI MOUNTAIN (A. Holt) shifted out abruptly away from BATTLE PIRATE (L. Cassidy) and momentarily became awkwardly placed on the heels of STATUE BRO (K. Wharton).

KORTA (R. McMahon), DOMINANT PLAY (T. Bell) and ZEROMIX (B. El-Issa) travelled wide throughout.

M. Cahill reported at scale that YARRANDI was inclined to hang out throughout.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ZEROMIX, B. El-Issa explained that, in his opinion, the horse had come to the end of its preparation and raced like a tired horse. Trainer C. Anderson agreed with the comments of B. El-Issa, adding that the horse now would be sent for a spell. Connections advised consideration would be given to spelling the horse. A post race veterinary examination of ZEROMIX failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of RACEY LYAN revealed it to have been galloped on on the off hindleg.


Race 3: Ticketek Open H'cap - 1300m

Connections advised that EASY RUNNING would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. EASY RUNNING was ridden accordingly.

Both GRIFFON (T. Harrison) and RACING HEART (J. Johnson) were slow to begin.

On entering the straight, OLLIE VOLLIE (T. Bell) had difficulty obtaining clear running.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LIESELE, G. Colless stated he was of the opinion that the mare failed to handle the step up in distance today, but nonetheless was still disappointed in its performance. A post race veterinary examination of LIESELE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards questioned trainer D. Forster regarding the seemingly improved performance of EASY RUNNING. She stated that EASY RUNNING had worked well leading into today's performance, adding that the addition of blinkers and a tongue-tie, as well as today's good track conditions, were factors in the improved performance.

A post race veterinary examination of BAQABA which, was fractious in the barriers, revealed a laceration and abrasion to the near-side hock.

A post race veterinary examination of OLLIE VOLLIE revealed the horse to be suffering from colic.


Race 4: Oh Hello! F&M NMW H'cap - 1000m

As M. Cahill was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of FLORAL GARDEN. M. Cahill was fined $100.

TAMBO'S JEWEL (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

BROOKTON TIARA (P. Hammersley) and NOT TO SHARE (R. McMahon) bumped on jumping away.

Near the 500m, FLORAL GARDEN (J. Byrne) was eased away from the heels of RIVER BLUES (A. Spinks), which shifted in slightly.

Approaching the 100m, LUCKY LEISH (A. Taylor) shifted out across the heels of DIAMOND TRAIL (M. Hellyer), resulting in A. Taylor, rider of LUCKY LEISH, losing the use of her off-side rein and becoming unbalanced in the saddle.

FANCIFUL (T. Bell) and DIAMOND TRAIL (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned A. Coome regarding the performance of TAMBO'S JEWEL. A. Coome stated that the instructions were to race in a forward position, as per its usual racing pattern, however after becoming fractious in the barriers, TAMBO'S JEWEL was slow to begin and as a result settled at the rear of the field. He stated that he commenced to place the mare under pressure from the 600m and, in his opinion, TAMBO'S JEWEL found the line strongly. Stewards noted the explanation.

A post race veterinary examination of RIVER BLUES, which weakened in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 5: Love My Wines QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1000m

MENACING (A. Coome) was tightened for room between INTO THE RED (M. Cahill) and TISANI TOMSO (K. Matheson), which began awkwardly and shifted in.

BOSS BURR (P. Hammersley) knuckled badly and lost ground at the start.

ROMANARMA (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping the hind quarters of GREAT INAGUA (B. El-Issa).

Leaving the 600m, FRIENDLY DRAGON (B. Stewart) shifted in, making contact with GREAT INAGUA (B. El-Issa).

After passing he 700m, TISANI TOMSO (K. Matheson) shifted out and in doing so inconvenienced MENACING (A. Coome). K. Matheson, rider of TISANI TOMSO, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

TISANI TOMSO hung out rounding the home turn.

Near the 200m, GREAT INAGUA (B. El-Issa) shifted out to obtain clear running and inconvenienced MENACING (A. Coome).

Stewards questioned B. Stewart, rider of FRIENDLY DRAGON, regarding the reason why he did not position the horse to the outside of ROMANARMA leaving the 600m. B. Stewart stated he was of the opinion that a run was going to appear between MENACING (A. Coome) and ROMANARMA, however on straightening he was disappointed for that run when both MENACING and ROMANARMA shifted ground, resulting in him being held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. He added that leaving the 300m he was able to shift to the outside, at which point ROMANARMA finished the race off well.

A post race veterinary examination of THIRD DEGREE, which raced below expectations, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of SISTER MAGIC, which collapsed in the mounting enclosure following the race reveald the mare to have sufferd a fatal cardiac arrest.

Race 6: Lovefox.com.au Country Cup - Special Conditions 1MW H'cap - 1200m

HLUDOWG (K. Wharton) and BETTER LATER (J. Byrne) bumped on jumping away.

STATE OF WEALTH (J. Stanley) overraced when awkwardly placed at the heels of TOUGH TAIMZ (M. Cahill) near the 600m.

Leaving the 600m and again near the 450m, DAYTIME DAZZLER (G. Killen) had to be steadied when tightened for room by TOUGH TAIMZ (M. Cahill), which was taken in by LAST LAP (A. Allen).

Near the 100m, STATE OF WEALTH shifted out abruptly of its own accord.

STATE OF WEALTH (J. Stanley) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of LAST LAP (A. Allen).

K. Wharton, rider of HLUDOWIG, was cautioned for raising his whip above shoulder height and also his excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.

A post race veterinary examination of BELLANTINA, which raced below expectations, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 7: Smirnoff Class 6 Plate - 1823m

K. Matheson was examined by the doctor and stood down from his engagement on MIGHTYSUI.

BALLYBIT was declared a late scratching at 3.40 pm on veterinary advice.

Connections advised that COSMONAUT would settle midfield from the good barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Trainer B. Guy informed stewards that MICKEN would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Mr Guy was advised of his obligations to inform stewards of any change of riding tactics at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the race as stipulated in the rules.

Apprentice J. Johnson, rider of MICKEN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1600m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of COSMONAUT, causing R. McMahon to check COSMONAUT and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Johnson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 August, and to expire at midnight, 28 August.

COSMONAUT was held up rounding the home turn and for a short distance in the home straight.


Race 8: B105 CG&E NMW H'cap - 1000m

FRACTIONS (T. Bell) knuckled on jumping away and lost ground.

QFIGHTER (M. Cahill), CRYON (B. Looker) and BAHSA (P. Hammersley) were slow to begin.

CRYON (B. Looker) overraced in the early and middle stages.

The saddle on BUNDY SPECIAL (M. McGuren) shifted to the off side shortly after entering the home straight.

R. McMahon reported that WESTERN SHADOW failed to muster its customary speed in the early stages and as a result was forced to race further back in the field than anticipated. He added that WESTERN SHADOW did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and, in his opinion, was disappointing.

BUNDY SPECIAL lost its off fore plate in running.
