When questioned as to the disappointing performance of READY TO LAUNCH, T. Bell stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however failed to respond to his riding when asked to improve into the race from a point near the 600m and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of READY TO LAUNCH revealed that the gelding's tongue tie had come loose during the race. Trainer G. Heinrich advised that she would discuss the gelding's future racing plans with the other part owners.
L. Cassidy reported that AMAZING MR HUGHES hung out throughout and as a result shifted extremely wide in the home straight and proved difficult to ride. Munce) would be ridden with cover in a mid to handy position, however, if caught wide, the rider will be instructed to go forward. From the wide barrier C. Munce was unable to progress forward and cross the runners to his inside and therefore restrained SAN CLEMENTE to take a position three wide with cover.

Near the 350m HOPFGARTEN (T. Harrison) shifted to the outside of SUNSET HILLS and in doing so made contact with SCREAMING JET.
A post-race veterinary examination of SAN CLEMENTE revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery and cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer R. A post-race veterinary examination of CARRY ME GEE GEE revealed no significant abnormalities.
When questioned as to his riding of OOSTHUIZEN leaving the 200m, jockey R. McMahon stated that he attempted to change the whip from his right hand to his left hand, however had difficulty doing so for some 100m when the whip became entangled in his reins, which resulted in the horse shifting in.

A post-race veterinary examination of STRATOJET revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer B. Baldwin was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. Mr Baldwin advised that he would have blood tests conducted on the gelding in the days subsequent to today's race and undertook to advise stewards of the results of those blood tests.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on ALL TAKEN, particularly in the early stages, apprentice T. Jeffries stated that she was instructed to take up a forward position. Apprentice Jeffries added that after being slow to begin, she pressured ALL TAKEN in an attempt to comply with her instructions, however was unable to muster the necessary speed and as a result was caught 4 wide for the majority of the race. Apprentice Jeffries was of the opinion that the fact that ALL TAKEN was obliged to race wide throughout had a detrimental effect on its performance. Stewards advised apprentice Jeffries that she had erred in her riding of ALL TAKEN when she failed to restrain the gelding in the early stages to take up a rearward position with cover after it had been slow to begin.
Race 7: MOUNT FRANKLIN SPARKLING F&M CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1200m
MISS ZIZOU (T. Bell) began awkwardly and shifted out taking SPURS AND SASHES (J. Byrne) out on to ROCK PAPER SISSORS (B. El-Issa).
SPECIAL LIE (C. Munce) began awkwardly.
When questioned as to the performance of STRONG CHAMPION, apprentice J. Johnson stated that she was unable to hold her position inside of SHAZZLE PAZZLE (T. Wolfgram) in the early stages and as a consequence allowed that runner to cross her. Apprentice Johnson added that STRONG CHAMPION was then reluctant to race inside of AMAIZING DRAGON (S. Apthorpe) and raced ungenerously for a considerable distance in the middle stages of the event. Apprentice Johnson added that near the 600m she attempted to shift out, however was unable to do so when FALONLEAH (A. Pattillo) had improved to her outside. Apprentice Johnson further added that STRONG CHAMPION was then forced to continue racing inside of horses, which had a detrimental effect on its performance. Trainer B. Guy agreed with the comments of apprentice Johnson, adding that STRONG CHAMPION has always performed best when able to lead.
When questioned as to the below market performance of GLIMMER, jockey M. Cahill stated that despite travelling comfortably in the early and middle stages of the race, the mare failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing. Jockey Cahill was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of GLIMMER revealed no significant findings. Stable representative G. Thompson confirmed his disappointment in the performance of GLIMMER and stated that it would be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 8: GOA GET NOTICED! CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1400m
Due to an error in rider declarations, apprentice G. Goold (STYLE MUSIC) and E. Wilkinson (AUGUSTE) were placed on incorrect runners. Shortly after declarations, the error was rectified.
Connections advised that the rider would be instructed to take up a position just off the speed with cover on STYLE MUSIC (G. Goold) if circumstances permit. After beginning only fairly STYLE MUSIC took up a position in the second half of the field where it overraced in the early stages and raced wide throughout.
Trainer B. Smith advised that, from the wide barrier, SOUTHERLY (R. Wiggins) would be ridden back in the field. SOUTHERLY was ridden accordingly, however was unable to take up a position close to the fence and was forced to race three wide throughout.
CARBON TAIKUN (T. Wolfgram) and STYLE MUSIC were slow to begin.
Near the 1300m CARBON TAIKUN had to be eased when tightened for room between CAP BIANCO (C. Schmidt) and WIND WAND (T. Harrison).
Passing the 1000m CARBON TAIKUN improved on to the heels of CAP BIANCO and when being steadied shifted out and had to be checked from the heels of TONTORO (M. Cahill) and lost ground.
Approaching the 200m TONTORO became held up on the heels of the tiring WRITTEN ABOVE ALL and when attempting to shift to the outside of that runner contacted the hind quarters of AUGUSTE (E. Wilkinson).
G. Colless reported that WRITTEN ABOVE ALL was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race and proved difficult to ride, and near the 500m shifted out abruptly, forcing AUGUSTE wider. A post-race veterinary examination of WRITTEN ABOVE ALL revealed superficial lacerations to both fore fetlocks.
When questioned about the overall performance of CARBON TAIKUN, apprentice T. Wolfgram stated that he was instructed to position the gelding in the second half of the field and then attempt to obtain clear running to the outside of other runners in order to allow the gelding to finish the race off. Apprentice Wolfgram stated that after beginning slowly he then suffered interference shortly after the start and again near the 1000m where he was obliged to check the horse and lose ground. Apprentice Wolfgram added that CARBON TAIKUN then began to travel comfortably and instead of shifting the gelding extremely wide on the track, he elected to save ground, given the interference he had suffered earlier in the race. Apprentice Wolfgram further added that once able to obtain unimpeded running over the concluding stages, CARBON TAIKUN finished the race off well. The explanation was noted.
