Race 1: Driver Recruitment QTIS 2YO Fillies H'cap - 1000m

RUNWAY ANGEL (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

ASTER BLOOM (T. Harrison) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out soon after the start.

RUNWAY ANGEL (C. Munce) raced greenly in the early stages and approaching the 800m shifted out and away from BAMBINO (J. Byrne). A short distance later, RUNWAY ANGEL again shifted away from the heels of BAMBINO, resulting in ASTER BLOOM being hampered.

WICKED TEMPTATION (G. Goold) raced greenly when placed under pressure over the final 300m.

SETFIRE TO THERAIN cast its near fore plate during the race.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported that after being hampered near the 700m, ASTER BLOOM commenced to race very greenly and shift way from other runners and as a result lost ground.

On return to scale C. Munce reported that RUNAWAY ANGEL did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination of RUNAWAY ANGEL revealed it had a slower than normal recovery rate.

When asked to explain the performance of I'M CHILLIN', M. Cahill reported that the filly showed good speed from the barrier and travelled comfortably until placed under pressure in the home straight where it commenced to weaken. He added that over the final 200m, I'M CHILLIN' shortened stride noticeably and may not have been entirely comfortable on today's firm surface. A post race veterinary examination of I'M CHILLIN' failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Following this event, C. Munce was examined by the doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

C. Munce will be interviewed by stewards regarding his riding of RUNWAY ANGEL over the concluding stages of the race.

Race 2: Nugrow Class 6 Plate – 2100m

Connections advised that VOLKHERE will be ridden in a more forward position today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

KING OF THE FOREST (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.

PIRATE BAY (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages and after passing the 1200m was allowed to stride forward to the lead.

Near the 100m, LA BELLA MERMAID (A. Taylor) shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in MISSING IN ACTION (T. Bell) being severely hampered and taken wider.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill, rider of POSTE RESTANTE, regarding whether he had the opportunity to improve his position between the 700m and the 400m when racing at the rear of the field. M. Cahill explained that during that section of the race when following LA BELLA MERMAID (A. Taylor), he was unable to improve to the inside of that runner as it was not racing in an orthodox 3-wide position. He added that he was also mindful that POSTE RESTANTE is best suited when able to make its final run outside of horses in the home straight, and when he attempted to shift wider approaching the 500m he was unable to do so as MISSING IN ACTION had improved quickly to his outside. He further added that POSTE RESTANTE was not suited when the tempo of the race was slow in the middle stages. His explanation was noted.

Race 3: Iveco One Metro Win H'cap - 1200m

LA TIKKA ROSSA (G. Colless) and THE STOREMAN (T. Harrison) came together at the start.

ERVBEFEL (T. Bell) overraced in the early stages and raced 3 wide to a point approaching the 500m.

Near the 400m, SAN JOSE (D. Browne) raced in restricted room to the inside of MERCONMAN (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly under pressure.

In the early stages of the home straight, SAN JOSE was held up for clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of THE STOREMAN

GUNS (K. Matheson) raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 4: Tox Free F&M Class 6 Plate - 1400m

Connections advised that ELUSIVE STORM, which led at its last start at Doomben, would take up a handy position if possible today. ELUSIVE STORM settled midfield in a 3 wide position without cover throughout.

DANSAL (T. Harrison) began awkwardly.

LADY BUTTERFLY (T. Bell) overraced in the early stages.

For some distance approaching and passing the 800m DANSAL was inclined to shift in away from LADY BUTTERFLY and on a number of occasions brushed the running rail.

LADY BUTTERFLY was unable to secure clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 250m.

DANSAL was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 200m.

M. Cahill reported that PLATINUM MINT travelled comfortably and when placed under pressure quickened in the early part of the straight however peaked on its run over the final 100m. He added that he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of PLATINUM MINT.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of VIS A TERGO. G. Colless stated that the mare was held up in the early part of the home straight, however when tested passing the 300m failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. He added that, in his view, the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of VIS A TERGO revealed the mare to be exhibiting soreness in both knees and lame in the off foreleg. M. Dunn advised that the mare will be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards advised Mr Dunn that a veterinary clearance will be required for VIS A TERGO prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Kartaway Miniskips Open H'cap - 1200m

After passing the 500m, QFIGHTER (T. Harrison) shifted out to improve, taking PHELAN READY (M. Cahill) wider.

T. Bell reported that AUDACIOUS SPIRIT will take a fitness benefit from today's race.

When asked to comment on the disappointing performance of BIGGLES, R. McMahon stated that after suffering slight interference at the start the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout and proved most disappointing in the run to the finish. A post race veterinary examination of BIGGLES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will interview trainer N. Doyle regarding the performance of the gelding.

PHELAN READY cast its near fore plate during the race.

Race 6: Superiorpak Benchmark 80 H'cap - 1600m

Trainer P. Pengelly was reprimanded for presenting SLIM HENRY to the enclosure without blinkers which was part of its normal gear.

After arriving at the barriers, GOLD CAPE was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of rider M. Cahill and was subsequently cleared to race.

Approaching the 300m, PRIMARY COLOUR (R. Wiggins) shifted out away from TAIL AND ALL (A. Holt) and made contact with GOLD CAPE (M. Cahill).

Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, ARCTIC (R. McMahon) was held up and unable to improve.

PRIMARY COLOUR (R. Wiggins) raced 3 wide throughout.

When asked to comment on the disappointing performance of WHAT ABOUT ME, jockey G. Colless stated that the gelding travelled fairly up to a point near the 500m, and when placed under pressure seemed to resent racing between runners. G. Colless added that WHAT ABOUT ME was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight, and maybe better suited on rain affected tracks.

Race 7: Sita Ausralia QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1400m

Trainer M. Dunn advised stewards that whilst LONDEHERO had been successful at its last 2 starts with blinkers on, he stated that at its last start it overraced in the middle stages and with the step up to 1400m he was of the view LONDEHERO may settle better with the removal of blinkers.

RANNOCH (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.

ISLA POPPY (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.

ISLA POPPY had cast its near fore plate during the raceRounding the home turn, LONDEHERO (G. Colless) shifted out and bumped BODEGA (K. Wharton).

HOPFGARTEN (D. Browne) was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m, where it was obliged to alter course to the outside of RANNOCH and in doing so inconvenienced ISLA POPPY.

G. Colless reported at scale LONDEHERO did not run out a strong 1400m and, in his opinion, is best suited to races over 1200m.

Race 8: DMA CG&E Class 6 Plate – 1400m

CONGO (R. Wiggins) and CASTLE EXPRESS (T. Bell) were slow to begin.

VENTURE ON (A. Holt) began awkwardly and threw its head in the air.

WRITTEN ABOVE ALL (T. Harrison) raced 3 wide throughout without cover.
