SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Eagle Farm 26.10.13 – Race 1: Stewards concluded an inquiry into the apparent failure of C. Munce to ride RUNWAY ANGEL out to the end of the race. Evidence was taken from C. Munce, who explained that over the final 200m he was suffering from illness which prevented him from riding RUNWAY ANGEL out in his normal manner. This was corroborated by Dr Alan Phillips who examined jockey Munce immediately after the race and formed the view that jockey Munce's condition was such that he was unable to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. After considering all the evidence and viewing the patrol videos, stewards were of the view that jockey Munce's actions over the final stages of the race did materially affect the finishing position of his mount, however in light of jockey Munce's explanation, along with the corroborative evidence of Dr Phillips, stewards were of the view that it would be inappropriate to take any disciplinary action against jockey Munce for his failure to ride RUNWAY ANGEL out to the end of the race. C. Munce provided a medical clearance to ride at today's meeting.

From SCTC 27.10.13 – Race 3: Trainer A. Williamson reported that whilst he was not entirely disappointed with the overall performance of SIZZLING SONG, his vet inspected the horse following the event and the mare was found to be heavily in season and showing signs of muscle soreness, however he will continue with its current preparation.

Race 7: Trainer S. Kendrick reported that IMPALA pulled up well following the event, however he will now consider giving the horse more time to recover between its races.

Race 1: YELLOWGLEN MAIDEN PLATE - 2200m

EM ONE (C. Small) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with THUNDER SET (L. Cheshire).

CUBA LIBRE (A. Spinks) and CRAIGLEA RELOAD (R. Jamieson), which were slow to begin, were both tightened for room shortly after the start between JOSHUA'S MIGHT (K. Wharton), which shifted in, and WAR SCOUT (M. McGuren), which shifted out.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion COMPLETE SECRET (C. Schmidt), WAR SCOUT and CUBA LIBRE were all obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of THUNDER SET, which shifted in.

EM ONE raced wide in the early stages.

Leaving the 600m KING OF FLORENCE (J. Byrne) improved on to the heels of the tiring CUBA LIBRE and after being restrained shifted wider on the track.

When asked to explain her tactics on CRAIGLEA RELOAD, apprentice R. Jamieson stated that she had been instructed to have the horse race in a forward position and as the horse has had a tendency to be slow to begin, she was advised that should the horse begin badly she would be expected to ride forward during the middle stages in an attempt to take up a forward position, and it was for this reason that she rode forward and was positioned wide from the 1500m.

A post-race veterinary examination of CUBA LIBRE, which finished tailed off, revealed no significant findings.

Heathcote expressed his disappointment with the performance and advised that the horse would be sent for a spell.

C. Munce was asked to comment on the performance of SAGACIOUS LADY. Jockey Munce stated that at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably and was disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer B. Baldwin, when questioned, was of the opinion that SAGACIOUS LADY may not have run out a strong 1500m and it would be his intention to now drop the horse back in distance for its next race start and gave an undertaking to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

BLAZEN FELT (L. Cassidy) bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding had bled, trainer B. Baker was advised that BLAZEN FELT would be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m ALMASEA improved on to the heels of LEUROCITY (M. Cahill) and had to be checked.

Leaving the 1000m SUNDAE DREAMIN' (K. Yoshida) had to be steadied from the heels of VIVE LE VENT (C. Munce), which shifted in.

BEIJING DANCER was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight until approaching the 200m.

OUR BOY was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and was disappointed for a tight run near the 300m between SUNDAE DREAMIN' and LEUROCITY before shifting wider on the track to secure clear running.

C. Munce was asked to comment on the performance of VIVE LE VENT. He stated that the horse was uncharacteristically fractious in the barriers and did not show its customary early speed, which caused the horse to be forced to race wide in the early stages. He added that despite this, the gelding travelled well in the middle stages, however did not run on as expected in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of VIVE LE VENT revealed no significant findings, and a swab sample was taken. Trainer L. Gough confirmed his disappointment in the performance, adding that the only explanation he could tender was that the pace set in the early stages may have had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. Mr Gough gave an undertaking to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

NUITS ST GEORGES weakened badly over the concluding stages. Trainer's representative D. O'Neill advised stewards of an intention to send the horse for a spell. Stewards advised him that nonetheless NUITS ST GEORGES would be expected to officially trial prior to its next start.

Stewards questioned J. Byrne regarding the tactics adopted on LENTINI MIST. Of concern was when in a position approaching the 600m one off the fence it appeared he had opportunity to shift wider and improve into the race behind SPANISH SMILE and that after not taking this opportunity he was then held up rounding the home turn behind the weakening SWEET AND VICIOUS ad NUITS ST GEORGES. Jockey Byrne explained that he had given consideration to trailing SPANISH SMILE, however he formed the view shortly afterwards that SPANISH SMILE had commenced to weaken and he felt that NUITS ST GEORGES, which he was following, was travelling more favourably and would be more likely to take him into the race. Stewards accepted the explanation.
