SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Trainer Bradley Smith was questioned regarding his conduct in the horse stall area when requested by a Racing Queensland veterinary surgeon that a blood sample be taken from DIAMOND TRAIL. After hearing evidence from both parties, stewards reminded Mr Smith that he should at all times comply in a timely manner with a request from a race day official.
Race 1: AWESOME FOURSOME MEMBERSHIP OPEN H’CAP - 2400m
PIRATE BAY (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion PIRATE BAY, when overracing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MIGHTYSUI (P. Schmidt), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice Schmidt was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to show far greater care when shifting ground in the future.
BOREHOLE (L. Tarrant), which overraced in the middle stages, commenced to hang out after passing the 800m and continued to do so until entering the home straight.
BOREHOLE hung out soon after straightening, resulting in MIGHTYSUI being taken out on to PIRATE BAY.
After passing the 300m BOREHOLE shifted in slightly and made contact with MAGIC IVY (C. Munce), which in turn shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of MUKADDAMAH SON (M. Vance). Following this, MUKADDAMAH SON shifted out under pressure, resulting in MAGIC IVY being taken out on to BOREHOLE, which was also taken out on to MIGHTYSUI, which had to be steadied when tightened for room between BOREHOLE and PIRATE BAY. Apprentice M. Vance was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to make a far greater effort to stop priding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances in the future.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to DEAD 5 retrospective.
Race 2: BRISCLEAN QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1000m
Trainer T. Webb was fined $100 for failing to declare L. Tarrant as the rider of GUINES by the prescribed time.
GUINES (L. Tarrant) jumped very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground.
KASHBAK (C. Munce) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of RAYS ARE LUCKY (G. Goold).
CAUGHT A CRACKER (M. Hellyer) commenced to buck after travelling a short distance and as a result lost ground. Trainer J. Green indicated that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell, however she was advised that CAUGHT A CRACKER must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.
THAT PRETTY GIRL (E. Wilkinson) raced greenly in the early stages and near the 700m shifted in and brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground. THAT PRETTY GIRL continued to race greenly and approaching the 600m shifted out across the heels of TALE OF FORTUNE (T. Bell), and had to be checked.
Race 3: BUCCINI TRANSPORT OPEN F&M H’CAP - 1000m
After arriving at the barriers DIAMOND TRAIL (M. Hellyer) underwent a veterinary inspection at the request of its rider and passed fit to start.
GOLDEN TRINKETS (R. Ride) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out resulting in CALIENTE (J. Byrne)and TEAR IT UP being tightened for room, and TEAR IT UP making heavy contact with the hind quarters of LOHAN (C. Munce).
Near the 650m NUPTSE (J. Johnson) shifted in, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. NUPTSE then shifted out and had to be checked from the heels of COMAHNI (L. Tarrant). CALIENTE, which was following, also had to be checked as a consequence.
G. Colless reported that LA TIKKA ROSA travelled well at the rear of the field and after being taken to the outside passing the 400m started to make its run, however near the 350m faltered for no apparent reason and following this LA TIKKA ROSA was immediately under pressure and failed to finish the race off as he expected. A post-race veterinary examination of LA TIKKA ROSA revealed lameness in the near foreleg, and a routine swab sample was taken. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that a veterinary clearance for LA TIKKA ROSE will be required prior to its next start.
Race 4: NRMA INSURANCE BRONCOS 1MW H’CAP - 1500m
Correct weight was delayed to afford J. Byrne, the rider of 3rd placegetter PLUMAGE, the opportunity of viewing the stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner CLEVER HANS (P. Schmidt) for alleged interference near the 150m. After viewing all films J. Byrne declined to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.
SHOWMETHEMONEY (A. Allen) reared at the start and lost ground.
PRIMARY COLOUR (J. Morris) was obliged to race wide in the early stages and as a result was ridden forward to cross to the position outside of the leader near the 1000m.
Apprentice P. Schmidt, the rider of CLEVER HANS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 150m she permitted her mount to shift out under pressure when not sufficiently clear of PLUMAGE (J. Byrne), resulting in PLUMAGE having to be checked and altering course to the inside of CLEVER HANS. Apprentice Schmidt's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 24 November and expire at midnight on Tuesday 3 December 2013
Race 5: BRISCLEAN BM85 H’CAP - 1800m
Trainer B. Baldwin advised stewards that as MR LIGHT BLUE (B. El-Issa) has not been racing competitively when settling at the rear of the field, the gelding will be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. Despite the efforts of its rider, MR LIGHT BLUE settled towards the rear of the field.
LENTINI MIST (J. Byrne) blundered at the start.
CORONER (E. Wilkinson) raced wide in the early stages.
CASTLE EXPRESS (K. Matheson), BILLY AUCASH (A. Holt) and MASTER AVATAR (M. Vance) raced wide throughout.
PLAYACTION (J. Johnson) overraced in the middle stages.
Stewards sought an explanation from T. Bell regarding A TAD APART settling towards the rear of the field, which is in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. T. Bell explained that he was instructed to settle A TAD APART in a midfield position with cover one off the rail, however he was unable to comply with these instructions as MR LIGHT BLUE, after being slow to begin, improved quickly to his inside which resulted in him having to restrain A TAD APART in the early stages to gain a position closer to the rail. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 6: 1300 GO BRONCOS QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1000m
As apprentice A. Holt was to be overweight, apprentice K. Matheson was substituted as the rider of NICKED AND COURT. Apprentice Holt was fined $300.
Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to review the patrol footage of the final 200m of the race to ascertain whether grounds existed for an objection to be lodged on behalf of 4th placegetter NICKED AND COURT (K. Matheson) against 3rd placegetter NEUSCHWANSTEIN (V. Colgan). After viewing all available videos, stewards were satisfied with the placings as semaphored and declared correct weight on those numbers.
Approaching the 100m EVOCATIVE (J. Morris) had to be steadied when taken out by SIR LUMINAR, which was also taken out by NEUSCHWANSTEIN. During this incident EVOCATIVE brushed GOING GOING GONE (M. Cahill). At the same stage, NICKED AND COURT shifted in slightly which resulted in GOING GOING GONE faltering and losing ground. Stewards were satisfied that this incident was not the result of the carelessness of any one rider.
V. Colgan, the rider of NEUSCHWANSTEIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out under riding when not sufficiently clear of SIR LUMINAR (L. Tarrant), resulting in SIR LUMINAR having to be checked to avoid the heels of NEUSCHWANSTEIN. V. Colgan's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 November 2013 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 4 December 2013.
Race 7: DESIREE GILL MEMORIAL OPEN H’CAP - 1400m
Trainer J. Nikolic was fined $100 for presenting HOUR OF PERIL (K. Matheson) to race without blinkers, which is part of its normal racing gear.
POOR JUDGE (M. Cahill), which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
FALINO (B. Stewart), which was found to have a slight nasal discharge, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to race.
ESSINGTON (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
DANAGAZE (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.
Race 8: BRONCOS MEMBERS CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1300m
TAX EVADER (A. Butler), which reared in the barriers and became cast, was removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon. Acting on his advice, stewards ordered that TAX EVADER be declared a late scratching at 5.02 pm. Trainer J. Caught was advised that, bearing in mind the previous poor record of TAX EVADER in the barriers, its nomination will be refused under AR. 50. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TAX EVADER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
11 cents in the dollar for the Win #13
12 cents in the dollar for place of winner #13
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
17 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
Soon after the start ROCK ACADEMY (G. Colless), which jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with SILVER RIVER (M. Cahill), which resulted in it being taken in on to the hind quarters of DIVINE CITY (C. Munce) and blundering.
DIVINE CITY was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m where it altered course to the outside of KARL THE GREAT in order to improve.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice L. Tarrant regarding the performance of HAMPDEN. Apprentice Tarrant stated that he was obliged to work hard in the early stages to cross to the lead from a wide barrier and during the middle stages HAMPDEN would not relax and overraced and in his view these were contributing factors to the horse being unable to finish the race off as expected. A post-race veterinary examination of HAMPDEN revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery rate.
Stewards interviewed trainer Charlie Weston regarding the performance of SILVER RIVER today. Mr Weston explained that he was disappointed with the gelding's performance and added that SILVER RIVER may be better suited on rain-affected tracks. Mr Weston undertook to report to stewards the results of veterinary tests he intends having carried out in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER RIVER did not reveal any significant findings.
