SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Eagle Farm 9.11.13 – Race 7: Stewards interviewed trainer J. Nikolic regarding the riding tactics adopted by E. Kehoe on WONDERFUL JESTER, particularly in the early stages where jockey Kehoe remained three wide when there was an opportunity to restrain to the rear of the field and obtain cover, and also the vigour exhibited by jockey Kehoe on WONDERFUL JESTER in the home straight. Mr Nikolic stated that he gave no specific instruction to jockey Kehoe other than to settle the horse where it was comfortable with cover if possible. After viewing the stewards' footage today, Mr Nikolic agreed that it would have been a better option in the early stages of the race for Ms Kehoe to restrain WONDERFUL JESTER to the rear of the field and obtain cover rather than remain in a three wide position throughout. Mr Nikolic added that after viewing the film WONDERFUL JESTER appeared to dip on a couple of occasions in the home straight, which confirmed the explanation given to him by jockey Kehoe subsequent to the race. Mr Nikolic advised that WONDERFUL JESTER was found to be suffering from muscle soreness in the days subsequent to the event and has now been sent for a spell. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 1: CHANNEL SEVEN QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1000m

DANGEROUS MISSIE (R. McMahon), which was fractious in the barriers and became momentarily cast, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

SLEEP TIGHT (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 700m RUBY SOHO (M. Cahill) shifted out slightly when inclined to lay out. ELITIST (C. Munce), which was going forward, shifted inwards resulting in DIVINE SERVICE (E. Wilkinson) being tightened for room. DIVINE SERVICE then became unbalanced and lost ground, resulting in STORMING PLEASURE (T. Harrison), which was trailing, having to be steadied and shift out. DANGEROUS MISSIE, which was trailing STORMING PLEASURE, had to be steadied and alter course away from that horse's heels as a result.

Rounding the home turn NAZAR ROYALE (G. Goold), which was racing greenly, shifted outwards, taking MISS BELLA ROSA (J. Byrne) outwards towards the heels of DANGEROUS MISSIE and as a result MISS BELLA ROSA had to be steadied.

RUBY SOHO shifted out under pressure over the final 50m. As a result, ELITIST shifted out away from that runner and brushed DIVINE SERVICE.

C. Munce reported that after beginning well ELITIST shifted out and as a result lost ground.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding his riding of GIRLSGOGIDDYUP in the home straight. G. Colless stated that it was initially his intention soon after straightening to improve to the inside of NAZAR ROYALE, however he was unable to do so as NAZAR ROYALE, when racing greenly, shifted in slightly. G. Colless further added that rather than improve between DANGEROUS MISSIE and MISS BELLA ROSA passing the 300m he elected to shift to the outside of the heels of MISS BELLA ROSA as he thought this would give the filly its best opportunity of finishing the race off as it had shown at its first start that it appreciated making its final run on the outside of horses. His explanation was noted.

A post-race veterinary examination of SLEEP TIGHT revealed the filly to be exhibiting soreness in both hind legs. Trainer S. O'Dea was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for SLEEP TIGHT prior to its next start

Race 2: XXXX GOLD BM90 H’CAP - 2100m

As apprentice K. Matheson was to be overweight, apprentice A. Allen was substituted as the rider of MOMENT TO REMEMBER. Apprentice K. Matheson was fined $100.

Connections advised that as PIRATE BAY (L. Cassidy) has not been finishing its races off, the intention is to have the gelding ridden behind midfield if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

PIRATE BAY jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with SOUL CRUSADE (T. Bell), which as a result made heavy contact with the hind quarters of TRAJET (M. Cahill).

GRAB THE LOOT (T. Harrison) overraced in the early and middle stages.

When the pace steadied in the middle stages SOUL CRUSADE had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CATALONIA (E. Wilkinson). PIRATE BAY, which was following, also had to be checked and shift wider.

Passing the 800m SIR KNOX (C. Munce) improved between CATALONIA and SADLER'S WISH (P. Schmidt) where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied. MOMENT TO REMEMBER (A. Allen), which was following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.

Passing the 200m apprentice L. Tarrant (MALING) lost the use of his nearside rein.

G. Colless reported that VOLKHERE had difficulty accelerating under the 59kg in the straight.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of SIR KNOX, jockey C. Munce informed stewards that he rode the horse in a rearward position as instructed and the horse travelled quite comfortably during the run, however did not accelerate rounding the home turn and was disappointing in the run to the finish. Trainer R. Wilson advised that after consulting with connections it was his intention to send SIR KNOX for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SIR KNOX revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Mr Wilson was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for SIR KNOX prior to its next start.

T. Bell (SOUL CRUSADE) was fined $300 for using the whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 3: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL F&M 0MW - 1400m

Stable representative for trainer J. Thompson advised that as LITTLE MISS SMILEY (T. Bell) has not been finishing its races off when ridden forward, the intention will be to have the filly ridden back in the field with cover if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Correct weight was delayed to afford E. Wilkinson, the rider of 5th placegetter DOLPHUS, the opportunity of viewing the stewards' patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 3rd placegetter KARAMEA (J. Byrne). After viewing the videos, jockey Wilkinson indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.

Near the 350m MISS LEIBERT (P. Schmidt) shifted out around the heels of CHEZZA'S TREASURE (G. Colless) in order to improve and made heavy contact with KARAMEA.

KARAMEA commenced to hang in leaving the 200m, which resulted in DOLPHUS (E. Wilkinson) being obliged to alter course to the outside of the heels of that runner. KARAMEA continued to hang in under pressure for the remainder of the race.

LASSILA (C. Munce) was inclined to lay out under pressure over the final 200m.

Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $200 for failing to inform stewards of a change of riding tactics for DOLPHUS whereby the horse was restrained at the start to a rearward position, which is in contrast to its pattern of racing at its most recent start.

A post-race veterinary examination of FOR MIA revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L. Treloar was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for FOR MIA prior to its next start.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of CHEZZA'S TREASURE, G. Colless stated that the mare enjoyed a nice run in a handy position with cover, however when asked to quicken soon after straightening did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Race 4: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1500m

FRIENDLY DRAGON (T. Jeffries) was slow to begin.

RANNOCH MOOR (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FLAMBOYER (G. Goold).

KALANDULA (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.

YOU BETTER NOT (A. Allen), BRADY 'N' ME (P. Schmidt), SHIRAZ ATTACK (T. Bell) and ALLHAPPENINGAGAIN (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 500m KALANDULA shifted out around the heels of PADRINO (T. Harrison) in order to improve, resulting in YOU BETTER NOT being forced wider on the track.

Apprentice P. Schmidt, the rider of BRADY 'N' ME, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 500m she permitted her mount to shift out, making heavy contact with SHIRAZ ATTACK, resulting in SHIRAZ ATTACK becoming unbalanced and shifting wider on the track. Apprentice Schmidt's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence following the expiration of an existing suspension at midnight on Tuesday 3 December and expire at midnight on Thursday 12 December 2013.

At the entrance to the home straight OUR EDITOR (E. Wilkinson) shifted out away from CASINO BENJO (D. Hayse), which was inclined to lay out, resulting in RANNOCH MOOR having to be steadied and alter course to the inside of OUR EDITOR.

Passing the 300m SISTER SOUSS (M. Cahill) had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring YOU BETTER NOT.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the disappointing performance of ALLHAPPENINGAGAIN. C. Munce stated that ALLHAPPENINGAGAIN raced three wide with cover in the early and middle stages and when asked to quicken approaching the home turn when trailing SHIRAZ ATTACK, the colt did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the home straight. C. Munce added that ALLHAPPENINGAGAIN changed stride on a number of occasions over the final 600m.

Race 5: COX RAYNER ARCHITECTS BM90 H’CAP - 1000m

Near the 650m SEEK AND FIND (K. Matheson) had to be steadied from the heels of ROCKY KING (A. Allen), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Leaving the 900m PROTO improved on to the heels of KING LUDWIG (C. Munce) and had to be checked.

CRACCO (R. McMahon) raced fiercely through the early and middle stages.

JACK'S BACK travelled wide for the majority of the event.

IN A STORM (T. Bell), HORA SEXTA (J. Byrne) and WRITTEN ABOVE ALL (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 700m KING LUDWIG had to be steadied from the heels of BUSHY (M. Cahill), which was losing ground. PROTO, which was trailing KING LUDWIG, had to be checked to avoid that horse's heels.

KING LUDWIG had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of IN THE GENES, apprentice T. Harrison stated that horse led at its previous start, but after beginning only fairly from its wide barrier today she elected to restrain the horse, however IN THE GENES then was reluctant to stretch out and raced further back than she would have liked. Apprentice Harrison added that after placing the horse under pressure on straightening, IN THE GENES found the line only fairly and in her opinion was disappointing.

A post-race veterinary examination of JACK'S BACK (L. Tarrant) revealed the horse to be sore in the offside knee. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for JACK'S BACK prior to its next start.
