Race 1: AON RISK SOLUTIONS QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1000m
Correct weight was delayed to enable T. Bell, rider of 4th placegetter SARISARA, to view the photo finish. After viewing the print, T. Bell was satisfied with the Judge's placings and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.
CANNIZZARO (M. Cahill) bounded as the gates were released and lost ground.
DEUCED (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
In the early stages RUNWAY ANGEL (L. Cassidy) was inclined to hang out and bumped heavily with WAFFLE (C. Munce) near the 900m.
Approaching the 700m CRAIGLEA PLATINUM (S. Payne), which was inclined to overrace and hang out, shifted out towards the heels of CHOC MOUNTAIN (R. Wiggins) and was steadied.
CRAIGLEA IVY (K. Wharton) and OUR ROCK O'REILLY (J. Byrne) raced wide without cover throughout.
In the middle stages CANNIZZARO raced very keenly and was steadied off the heels of SARISARA (T. Bell).
Race 2: PREMIER FIRE OPEN H’CAP - 1600m
Correct weight was delayed to enable L. Cassidy, the rider of 3rd placegetter RAEBURN, to view the stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner KISS ME DEADLY (R. Ride). After viewing the videos, jockey Cassidy indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.
LADY ECHELON (T. Bell) lost its off hind plate near the 1200m.
As apprentice R. Ride was stood down by the Club doctor following her ride in this race, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 3: DRUMBEATS @ LYNDHURST BM80 H’CAP - 1812m
Connections advised that COSMONAUT (R. Wiggins) would be ridden forward if caught wide. COSMONAUT began awkwardly and lost ground and then was trapped extremely wide without cover in the early stages, and therefore was allowed to stride forward from the 1400m to eventually race outside the leader.
KENTAUR (R. Jamieson) raced very keenly in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 1600m CRAIGLEA SHERRY (T. Harrison) was steadied when crowded between FRETON (L. Tarrant), which shifted out marginally, and KENTAUR which when overracing had to be shifted in when taken in slightly by SCARBOROUGH (T. Bell). T. Bell was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is properly clear when shifting ground.
Rounding the home turn and then on two occasions in the early part of the straight HARBOUR SPRINGS shifted ground and made contact with AWESOME RANSOM (K. Matheson).
G. Colless reported that THIRSTY FOR BLOOD was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race.
M. Cahill (HARBOR SPRINGS) explained that he had no specific instructions, however he anticipated riding the mare midfield. He said that HARBOR SPRINGS began tardily and showed no early speed and consequently raced at the rear of the field. He added that the horse travelled only fairly in the run and when the tempo quickened from the 700m he endeavoured to ride the mare along, however it failed to respond. HARBOR SPRINGS, in his opinion, took some time to gain momentum and despite his riding it only began to finish the race off inside the final 200m. He said in his opinion HARBOR SPRINGS would be better suited racing over further distance than that of today's event. M. Cahill's explanation was accepted.
After the race it was noted that ALL COIN (P. Schmidt) had blood in the nearside nostril. Trainer P. Balzen was advised that ALL COIN must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward before being permitted to race again.
Race 4: THE AON INDUSTRY ADVANTAGE 0MW H’CAP - 1500m
RHETORIC (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.
CALL ME RUSTY (L. Tarrant) raced three wide throughout.
After the 1200m RHETORIC had to be steadied when crowded by TIMELESS PRINCE (L. Cassidy), which shifted in and away from DYSFUNCTION (T. Bell), which itself had shifted in slightly.
Just prior to straightening ARGIE'S HEART (R. McMahon) and ITCHINTOWIN (S. Galloway) raced tight when attempting to improve into running between UNLOVED (J. Byrne) and CROSS THE STAR (T. Harrison).
Near the 300m TIMELESS PRINCE shifted to the inside of UNLOVED (J. Byrne) to improve and in doing so made contact with ARGIE'S HEART.
When questioned, G. Colless stated that he was instructed to ride QUICK WITTED midfield from an awkward barrier, however the mare never travelled well throughout the event and did not finish the race off as he expected. A post-race veterinary examination of QUICK WITTED revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: SKY RACING WORLD BM90 H’CAP - 1000m
LA TIKKA ROSA (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
Near the 700m BAHSA (T. Bell) was bumped by TERMS OF TRADE (K. Matheson), which shifted in and away from SHAFEEQ (S. Payne), which also shifted in slightly.
TERMS OF TRADE raced extremely wide throughout.
Near the 300m, when being shifted across the heels of BAHSA, G'DAY OLD MATE (B. Stewart) dipped and became unbalanced.
Rounding the home turn EXPLORE THE WORLD (A. Allen) was inclined to shift out towards the heels of TERMS OF TRADE, and on straightening shifted in abruptly and then was awkward on the heels of LA TIKKA ROSE.
For a considerable distance in the home straight MR FAVULOUS (L. Tarrant) was unable to improve between OVERRIDE (J. Taylor) and SHAFEEQ (S. Payne) until it was able to be shifted in approaching the 100m to find clear running.
Approaching the 200m J. Taylor (OVERRIDE) dropped his whip.
A post-race veterinary examination of TERMS OF TRADE revealed no abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of SPURTASTIC revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: AON HUMAN RESOURCES CLASS 6 PLATE - 1400m
Trainer K. Lees was fined $100 for presenting PITT STREET to the parade ring without side winkers as part of the horse's approved gear.
BEWHATYOUWANNABE (T. Bell), which was standing awkwardly, bounded as the gates were released and lost ground.
DIET (R. McMahon) dipped at the start.
Shortly after the start BEWHATYOUWANNABE was carried in and AIN'T SHE SWEET (L. Cheshire) crowded slightly to the inside of MAGIC N MOTION (J. Byrne), which after initially shifting to the inside of the heels of CAELLUM (S. Galloway) was then taken in slightly by that horse. In the circumstances, no action was taken.
When caught three wide without cover, CAELLUM (S. Galloway) raced very keenly in the middle stages.
Near the 800m HARADA BAY (A. Butler), which was pulling hard, was restrained off the heels of INDUBIOUS (E. Wilkinson).
Near the 800m, due mainly to the pace, SPARKLING SOUND (P. Schmidt) commenced to race very keenly at the heels of BEWHATYOUWANNABE and had to be shifted out abruptly, and in doing so caused slight inconvenience to BUAKAW (L. Tarrant).
From the 600m until straightening HARADA BAY was held up.
Near the 100m P. Schmidt (SPARKLING SOUND) had her whip knocked from her hand by L. Tarrant (BUAKAW).
Inside the final 100m HARADA BAY shifted out whilst being ridden along, causing slight inconvenience to CAELLUM. Apprentice Butler (HARADA BAY) was advised to exercise more care and to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.
When questioned, P. Schmidt stated that she had been instructed to ride SPARKLING SOUND back in the field, however rather than being caught wide, she allowed the mare to settle further back than anticipated.
Race 7: NOVOTEL BRISBANE AIRPORT 3YO FILLIES PLATE - 1400m
Trainer T. Gollan was fined $100 for presenting SATIRICAL LASS to the parade ring without blinkers as part of the filly's approved gear.
SOME CALL HER WILD (B. Stewart) began very awkwardly and bumped its outside gate.
MOON AND THE STARS (R. Jamieson) shifted in at the start and made heavy contact with PALOMINE GARNET (J. Taylor) and then shifted out, causing inconvenience to RED OCEAN (S. Galloway).
FAIRYTALE BELLE (T. Bell) and LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill), which were both slow to begin, then bumped.
HURRICANE CASSIE (G. Cooksley), which was three wide without cover, raced very keenly in the early and middle stages.
Near the 600m, as RED OCEAN attempted to shift to the outside of SEA RED (A. Allen), it was then steadied when SEA RED shifted out slightly.
Near the 500m as QUEST FOR PEACE (C. Munce) shifted to the outside of the heels of HURRICANE CASSIE, which was weakening, MOON AND THE STARS was taken out, resulting in SEA RED being taken much wider on the home turn.
Leaving the 400m HURRICANE CASSIE, which was weakening, dipped and shifted out slightly on to QUEST FOR PEACE, resulting in QUEST FOR PEACE being taken out on to MOON AND THE STARS, which was crowded slightly.
When questioned, B. Stewart cold offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of SOME CALL HER WILD. A post-race veterinary examination of SOME CALL HER WILD revealed no significant findings.
A post-race veterinary examination of HURRICANE CASSIE revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Andrew was advised that a veterinary clearance for HURRICANE CASSIE will be required prior to the filly's next race start.
Race 8: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BM85 H’CAP - 1200m
On return to scale jockey B. El-Issa, the rider of 2nd placegetter MORE LEVERAGE, requested to view the film to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge a protest against NICKIERA (L. Tarrant) being declared the winner. After viewing the film, jockey El-Issa lodged a protest, alleging interference near the 600m. On the evidence it was established that leading up to the 600m NICKIERA, which had been inclined to lay out slightly and which was racing ahead of MORE LEVERAGE, shifted out marginally and then near the 600m MORE LEVERAGE, which was travelling well, improved up into a position inside the heels of NICKIERA, where in the opinion of the stewards there was insufficient room to do so. As a result of this, MORE LEVERAGE was crowded and shifted in, resulting in BRIBIE being checked. As the stewards were of the view that there was not sufficient room for MORE LEVERAGE to improve inside NICKIERA, the protest was dismissed. In this incident EMERALD DUKE (G. Colless) and ALDINI, which were following BRIBIE, were checked and shifted out abruptly.
Near the 800m BRIBIE ((T. Harrison) became unbalanced and struck the fence when racing tight inside of MORE LEVERAGE (B. El-Issa), which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NICKIERA. ALDINI (R. Jamieson), which was following, was inconvenienced.
Near the 500m COMMANDARE (S. Payne) struck the running rail when racing close to the heels of WHO WILL (P. Schmidt).
Approaching the winning post TICKET TO DREAM (J. Byrne), which was closing the race off nicely, got close to the heels of the tiring JEFFERSON PARK (M. Cahill).
A post-race veterinary examination of EMERALD DUKE revealed no significant findings.
A post-race veterinary examination of BRIBIE revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Heathcote advised that the horse will be sent for an immediate spell. Mr Heathcote was advised that he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance
