Byrne stated that the horse resented racing inside other runners and failed to respond to his riding as a result. Trainer B. Guy confirmed his disappointment in the run and agreed with J. Byrne's assessment and further reported that TARTAN WARRIOR had pulled up well following the run.
GENERAL
As S. Galloway was indisposed and G. Killen was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: BOQ FINANCE SERVICES QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1500m
As M. Cahill was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of CASTANITA. M. Cahill was fined $100.
On jumping, KEEP ON ROCKING (D. Browne) lost ground when inconvenienced by FIXATION (R. Wiggins), which shifted out.
LITTLE FIGHTER (T. Bell) began awkwardly.
ELJETEM (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.
LITTLE FIGHTER (T. Bell) shifted in approaching the 1000m when not fully clear of DIDDY WIN DIDDY (J. Taylor), which had to be steadied. T. Bell was advised to exercise more care in future.
From making the turn near the 900m until straightening DRAGSTER (T. Harrison) hung out badly.
Near the 600m CLEMMENSEN (R. McMahon), which was overracing, was steadied from the heels of JUMBO PRINCE (R. Ride), and when doing so shifted in and made heavy contact with CHILLIN WITH DYLAN (A. Allen).
In the straight CHILLIN WITH DYLAN hung in and proved difficult to ride.
R. Wiggins (FIXATION) reported at scale that his mount was under pressure prior to the 800m and only finished the race off fairly. An on-course post-race veterinary examination of FIXATION revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan later reported that the gelding had coughed a number of times in its stall. He advised that he would have an endoscopic examination carried out on the horse, the results of which he would report to stewards as soon as practicable.
T. Bell reported that in his opinion LITTLE FIGHTER did not appreciate the quick back-up from its last start and also that it may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer S. Kendrick advised that the filly will now spell. A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE FIGHTER revealed no abnormalities.
D. Browne reported that KEEP ON ROCKING was under pressure from the 600m and in his opinion did not appreciate racing amongst horses as it had previously led at its last two starts. A post-race veterinary examination of KEEP ON ROCKING, which finished a distant last, revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Duncan indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell and would trial prior to returning to racing.
The veterinary surgeon reported that CLEMMENSEN lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 2: HORIZON SUPERANNUATION CLASS 6 PLATE - 1800m
Shortly after the start LEONARDO EXPRESS (D. Browne) was checked when crowded between BEAU BOY (R. Ride) and JEHANNEDARC (T. Harrison), both of which shifted ground.
HI SON (R. Jamieson) was steadied and shifted back in to avoid the heels of TANGARA (R. McMahon), which shifted out shortly after the start.
In the early stages ENDLESS SHADOW (P. Holmes) overraced, refused to settle and got its head up for a considerable distance.
TANGARA raced three wide without cover.
Near the 600m ONGOING VENTURE (B. Stewart), which was laying in, blundered, shifted in and brushed the rail.
In the straight, when placed under pressure, ROSEY JOAN (T. Bell) hung in.
Trainer D. Kelly's representative Mr M. Potter advised that it was always the intention from the wide barrier for HI SON to try and find cover from the start but was disappointed that the gelding got further back than connections had intended. Apprentice R. Jamieson was questioned regarding the tactics she adopted on HI SON. She stated that she had been instructed to find cover and had elected to follow ONGOING VENTURE from the 600m, which did take her into the race, however approaching the 200m had to be checked off the heels of the tiring JEHANNEDARC and was then disappointed for a run between JEHANNEDARC and ONGOING VENTURE. The explanation was noted.
Race 3: PMP BRISBANE TOWN PLATE - 1400m
The start of this race was delayed when YEAGER (T. Harrison) proved difficult to load.
The start was further delayed when LULIN (M. Cahill) was removed from its stall, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

Also near the 900m BRANDED (C. Munce) had to be checked off the heels of HOMEHILL (R. McMahon), which shifted in when not properly clear. After this BRANDED then continued to overrace and hung out. R. McMahon was severely reprimanded.
YEAGER, in the middle stages when racing wide without cover, raced very ungenerously.
On straightening, IF EVER (J. Morris) was checked off the heels of LULIN, which was beginning to weaken.
In the straight, YEAGER hung in.
A post-race veterinary examination of MALIBU WOO WOO (J. Taylor) revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised that she would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for MALIBU WOO WOO prior to it being permitted to start again.

Shortly after the start KINGTANTES (K. Wharton), RIDEONABIGJETPLANE (A. Allen), MR JETSET (R. Wiggins) and SMART HUSS (V. Colgan) were all crowded for room when WALKIN' TALL (T. Bell) shifted out.
L'ENTRECOTE (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.
INTERLUDE (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.
In the early stages ABU BEN ADAM (J. Johnson) was caught three wide and therefore it was allowed to stride forward by its rider to cross to the lead near the 900m.
After the 900m, when the pace steadied, WOBBLY BOOTS (C. Munce) had to be restrained from the heels of ALLHAPPENINGAGAIN (R. Jamieson). SMART HUSS and INTERLUDE, which were following, were steadied in consequence. After this SMART HUSS then continued to overrace badly at the heels of WOBBLY BOOTS.
Just prior to straightening SMART HUSS was inconvenienced and shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring HEARTBREAK HARRY (J. Taylor), and then in the straight was unable to obtain clear running until approaching the 200m.
For a considerable distance in the straight KINGTANTES was unable to secure clear running until inside the 200m.

In the early stages MAC'S ADDICTION overraced badly.
EXTREME MOVER raced three wide without cover.
For a considerable distance in the home straight SPURS AND SASHES (T. Bell) was held up when disappointed for a run between JOINT INITIATIVE (R. McMahon) and EXTREME MOVER and had to be shifted in to find clear running.
Apprentice S. Payne, the rider of BILLY AUCASH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 250m he permitted his mount to shift out when not fully clear of BUSHY (E. Wilkinson), resulting in BUSHY having to be checked. Apprentice Payne's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 12 July and expire at midnight on Saturday 26 July 2014.
Trainer J. Thompson's representative Mr G. Thompson advised that in his opinion FERMENT was ridden more patiently today which may may have enhanced the gelding's chances.
BELIEVE'N'RECEIVE lost its off fore plate in running.
BUSHY lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 6: PMP LIMITED ASCOT H’CAP - 1200m
Trainer J. McLachlan advised that it would be the intention to have FACILE TIGRE (E. Wilkinson) ridden closer to the lead today if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, FACILE TIGRE was then ridden along and eventually crossed to a forward position with cover.
BYMONASHEE (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly and struck its nearside gate.
In the early stages THEFT (J. Byrne), which was racing very keenly, was steadied near the 1000m when crossed by SEEKING MORE (M. Cahill), which shifted in when barely clear. M. Cahill was advised to exercise more care when his mounts shift ground. Shortly after this occurred, SEEKING MORE blundered. THEFT continued to overrace, resulting in it racing three wide without cover.
R. Wiggins reported that other than the firm track, he could offer no excuse for the performance of BYMONASHEE.
A post-race veterinary examination of LA TIKKA ROSA (G. Colless) revealed the mare to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for LA TIKKA ROSA prior to it being permitted to start again.
Race 7: BMAG QUEENSLAND CUP H’CAP - 3200m
BRAYROAN (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

DODGING EDDIE then shifted out and on straightening was again checked severely to avoid the heels of the tiring WAZN (A. Gibbons).
A post-race veterinary examination of ASTRO AVALANCHE, which finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Near the 300m STAR SAMMY (B. Stewart) endeavoured to improve into a narrow run between CENTREPET (R. McMahon) and LUCKY BAA (E. Wilkinson), and when doing so, CENTREPET shifted in slightly at the same time as LUCKY BAA shifted out, resulting in STAR SAMMY being disappointed for the run, clipping the heels of LUCKY BAA and blundering. Stewards were of the view that the incident was accidental, however B. Stewart was warned to exercise more care and ensure there is ample racing room when improving into runs.
