Race 1: Past Members Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1030m
1st – Last Roar 2nd- Gems Tatt 3rd – Countrywide 4th – Firebird
BIG DREAMS (B. Abbey) was slow to begin and lost valuable ground.
I. Coombes, the rider of SUIME ROSE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of DEL DE AIR (T. Banks), resulting in DEL DE AIR having to be checked by it's rider. I. Coombes was issued with a reprimand. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the exemplary record of I. Coombes, who has had in excess of 1500 race rides since his last suspension.
BIG DREAMS shifted out rounding the home turn and made heavy contact with FIREBIRD (R. Johnston-Bell), resulting in FIREBIRD becoming unbalanced for several strides.
GONE FISSION (B. Derbyshire), LAST ROAR (C. Jokic), BIG DREAMS and FIREBIRD all raced wide the majority of the event.
A post race veterinary examination of IN A GLANCE, revealed the mare to have broken down in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Hudson advised that the mare would now be retired from racing.
L. Appo, the rider of GEMS TATT, was reprimanded for using an audible obscenity on return to scale.
Race 2: Top X Eidsvold Class 2 Handicap 1030m
1st – Dark Angel 2nd- Taleofthecentury 3rd- Keep Up The Attack 4th- Sindibad
SINDIBAD (C. Jokic) began awkwardly.
Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 600m where WILLYWYNYA (J. King) had to checked and lost it's position when racing between KEEP UP THE ATTACK (R. Payne) and MAGPIE JACK (B. Derbyshire). After taking statements from all riders involved, and viewing the race patrol footage, stewards could not take direct action against any rider due to inconsistent evidence and inconclusive race patrol footage. All riders were, however, reminded to afford sufficient racing room to other runners.
TALEOFTHECENTURY (I. Coombes) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
KEEP UP THE ATTACK raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
EXPLORER CLUB (L. Appo) and DARK ANGEL (A. Badger) raced wide the majority of the event.
J. King, the rider of WILLYWYNYA, reported that the gelding travelled well in the early stages, however, after suffering interference approaching the 600m, the gelding did not finish the race off as expected.
Race 3: Star Hotel Class B Handicap 1200m
1st – Tent Harmony 2nd- Jewel of Cashel 3rd- Gold Record 4th - Tigerlicious
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of the 2nd placed runner, JEWEL OF CASHEL, to view the photo finish print of first placing. After viewing the print, connections were satisfied with the Judge's placings, and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.
BUTCH (C. Jokic) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
CHAMPAGNE CHANNIE (S. Apthorpe) was slow to begin.
After passing the 1000m, and for some distance thereafter, EIGHT CARAT GIRL (T. Banks) had to be steadied from the heels of LAGO BEN (L. Appo).
L. Appo, the rider of LAGO BEN, reported that after beginning well, he elected to take up a position closer to the fence just behind the leaders. He added that LAGO BEN then commenced to lose ground as a result of not appreciating the kickback from today's surface.
S. Apthorpe, the rider of CHAMPAGNE CHANNIE, reported that the mare did not appreciate the kickback from today's surface, and that the resultant dust from the kickback also affected his visibility during the race.
Race 4: Bruce Chiene Pty Ltd Open Handicap 1200m
1st – Tictacs 2nd- Ima Joker 3rd- Seventh Heart 4th- Dom Paolo
Stewards considered a request from J. King, the rider of UNDERCONSTRUCTION, to be declared a non-starter on the grounds of being denied a fair start. After taking evidence from J. King, and reviewing the race patrol footage, it was established that the near side front gate did swing back and strike that runner, resulting in the gelding losing ground at the start. Acting under the provisions of AR 134A, stewards deemed that UNDERSONSTRUCTION had been denied a fair start, and deemed the gelding a non-starter. Stewards ordered all monies invested on UNDERCONSTRUCTION to be refunded. Further, as access was not available to the APN deduction calculator, stewards utilising the Racing Queensland Schedule of Deductions, ordered the deductions of 6 cents to the face value of all win bets, and 7 cents to the face value of all place bets.
Stewards further considered an objection lodged by I. Coombes, the rider of the fourth placed runner SEVENTH HEART, against DOM PAOLO ridden by R. Payne, being declared third, alleging interference approaching the home turn. Stewards after considering the evidence of both jockeys and trainers, and viewing the race patrol footage, established that approaching the home turn DOM PAOLO has shifted out making contact with SEVENTH HEART, resulting in that runner having to be steadied and being forced wider on the track. In considering the objection, stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered by SEVENTH HEART exceeded the head margin at the finish, and therefore upheld the objection, and declared correct weight on the amended numbers of 1st – 5, 2nd – 1, 3rd – 3 and 4th – 4.
IMA JOKER (R. Johnston-Bell) was tightened and held up for clear running for some distance approaching and rounding the home turn, when awkwardly placed to the inside of BIG IS BIG (S. Apthorpe), which was inclined to lay in despite the efforts of it's rider.
Shortly after entering the home straight, HONOUR JACKO (S. Bayliss) had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of I'M THE ONE (L. Appo).
SEVENTH HEART (I. Coombes) raced wide the majority of the event.
Trainer W. Melvin, reported that SEVENTH HEART had sustained a laceration to the off fore leg.
Race 5: Vincents Chartered Accountants Eidsvold Cup Benchmark 65 Handicap 1350m
1st – Monching 2nd- Harney 3rd- Blackgold 4th- Cobbanvilla
The start of this race was delayed when the ambulance was required to attend to a patron on course. As the runners had already proceeded to the start, they were returned to the saddling enclosure until the ambulance was available.
HARNEY (C. Jokic) and METAPHYSICAL (B. Derbyshire) were both fractious in the barriers.
SIR EMLAND (L. Appo) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of METAPHYSICAL.
Near the 400m BLACKGOLD (I. Coombes) was disappointed for a run to the inside of METAPHYSICAL and had to be steadied. BLACKGOLD was then obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running.
SIR EMLAND raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
J. King, the rider of MONCHING, was reprimanded for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.
