WEATHER: OVERCAST TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL
Stewards questioned A. Lane and J. Oakes both of whom had been engaged to ride in various races today with regard to their liability insurance and their licences.
Both advised that they had paid their legal liability to Southern Cross and they had made the necessary arrangements to renew their licences for the 1999/00 season.
Mr. Craig Smith advised Stewards that he had also had paid his licence fees to the Downs and South West some time ago.
RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP – 1100 METRES – (9 STARTERS): At the start SYNDICATE (A. Williams) and MOZART (B. Chatteris) came together.
In the early stages of the race DANDY SOCKS (D. Bird) raced greenly.
Approaching the 800 metres SHOKA LENA (T. Williams) and MOZART brushed.
NIKKI TEE (J. Oakes) was hampered by TURRAMURRA BOY (N. Coyne) which shifted out as a result of DANDY SOCKS shifting out abruptly.
Apprentice D. Bird that his mount DANDY SOCKS commenced to hang out at the 800 metre point.
Stewards advised D. Powell the trainer of DANDY SOCKS that the gelding would have a warning placed on her relative to its greenness and racing manners.
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HCP – 1300 METRES- (7 STARTERS): At the start LADY APRYL (B. Chatteris) and DOCTOR PAX (N. Coyne) came together.
RACE 3 CLASS 2 HCP - 1200 METRES – (8 STARTERS): At approximately from the 700 metres to the 500 metres MULLAGANDI (W. Bell) raced tightly against HOST (B. Chatteris) which was racing to his outside.
B. Chatteris reported to Stewards that he felt he had been hampered substantially and was of the opinion the W. Bell the rider of MULLAGANDI made insufficient attempts to rectify the waywardness of his mount. Whilst Stewards conceded that HOST had been slightly hampered they were unable to form the opinion that W. Bell had deliberately ridden MULLAGANDI in an inappropriate manner. However Stewards did issue W. Bell with a warning that if he was placed in a similar circumstance he would be expected to show more vigour in attempting to relieve pressure to a runner which may be placed in the same position.
RACE 4 OPEN HCP – 1000 METRES – (9 STARTERS): At the start STORMY STRADDIE threw it’s head in the air resulting in that gelding being slow into stride.
LORD BUZZ (D. Rewald) jumped awkwardly resulting in that gelding being slow to begin. Shortly after NAT (B. Chatteris) shifted outwards resulting in LORD BUZZ losing more ground.
Approaching the 700 metre NAT commenced to race awkwardly. B. Chatteris rider of NAT reported to Stewards that his mount raced a little awkwardly through a softer section of the track and it wasn’t until he endeavoured to position his horse in firmer going that the gelding commenced to race truly again.
RACE 5 CLASS 4 HCP – 1000 METRES – (4 STARTERS): Approaching the 300 metres WALK THE WAVE (G. Bell) became unbalanced and lost ground.
SWABBING Routine samples were taken from all winners and forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for analysis
BOOKMAKERS: Four bookmakers fielded at the meeting with no betting disputes to report.
