STEWARDS PANEL: Mr G Wust (Chairman), Mr G McDonald

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good.

RACE 1: MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS)

As W Bell was indisposed for the day stewards approved the replacement of W Bell as rider of Kendal Prince with J Lait.
Shortly after the start EDGEROI ANNABEL (D.Whitmore) commenced to race ungenerously at the tail of the field till the 300 mtr point losing ground as a result. After taking submissions from jockey D. Whitmore and trainer N. Coyne in regard to the removal of blinkers, stewards placed a warning on EDGEROI ANNABEL in that should the mare perform similarly in future stewards may take further action.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (8 STARTERS)

Apprentice Michelle Allen pleaded guilty to a charge under LR51(1) in that she accepted rides on CANADIAN MAPLE Gladstone 13.4.2002 and CAMBIO Emerald 13.4.2002. Apprentice Allen was subsequently fined $200. DE CHAMPS (G. Bell) jumped with his head in the air and was subsequently slow into stride. At approximately the 600 mtr point DE CHAMPS (G. Bell) was obliged to ease off the heels of SPEEDY COUNT (D. Hutchins). Stewards inquired into the incident and it was established that MILPACK (C. Bryen (a)) took hold of the bit and endeavoured to take a run to the inside of BURGEE (J. Lait) at that point. In doing so MILPACK applied pressure to firstly KENNIFF COUNTY (N. Coyne) and subsequently SPEEDY COUNT (D. Hutchins) which resulted in the subsequent easing of DE CHAMPS (G. Bell).

RACE 3: CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS

As W Bell was indisposed for the day stewards approved the replacement of W Bell as rider of Paxmaster with D Simmons.

STORM CALL (G. Bell) was slow into stride. WILKES’ JOY (N. Coyne) over-raced between the 1100 and 800 mtr points. At approximately the 900 mtr point whilst over-racing WILKES’ JOY shifted outwards and made contact with PAXMASTER (D. Simmons).

RACE 4: OPEN H'CAP - 1200 METRES (10 STARTERS)

SIR SOON (C. Bryen (a)) was extremely slow into stride. BERN RETURN (R. Benfer) jumped outward and made contact with HELIAST (J. Lait). Shortly after the start RYDER (A. Williams) shifted outwards and brushed BERN RETURN (R. Benfer). At the finishing post PROVEN TRUE (S. Maloney) shifted inwards when tiring and made contact with the running rail.

RACE 5: CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1635 METRES (6 STARTERS)
