EMERALD JOCKEY CLUB
STEWARDS REPORT
28th JUNE 2003

STEWARDS PANEL: G. MEEK (CHAIRMAN) G. McDONALD G. WUST

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD

GENERAL
Stewards conducted an inquiry from a complaint lodged by Jockey Geoffrey Booth in that he had an agreement with Trainer Bill Wormer to ride MY OLD CONSULTANT in Race 2 and that Trainer Wormer subsequently booked Jockey Tracy Mathieson to ride the horse.
Stewards found in favour of Jockey Geoffrey Booth and ordered Trainer Bill Wormer to pay the riding fee for Jockey Booth and also any percentage if MY OLD CONSULTANT ran a place.
Trainer Allan O’Sullivan was fined the sum of $50.00 under the terms of AR8e for negligence in that he engaged a Jockey James Baker without his knowledge.

RACE 1: CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000 METRES (8 STARTERS)
No racing incidents to report.

RACE 2: CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
As the start was effected MY OLD CONSULTANT (T. Mathieson) jumped outwards and bumped PUISSANT (R. Graham). KENNIFF COUNTY (J. Dagan) was slow into stride.

RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 METRES (8 STARTERS)
YARRAMIN NURI (G. Bell) raced ungenerously from the start until the home turn. On returning to scale Jockey Glenda Bell reported that YARRAMIN NURI had got its tongue over the bit.
Approaching the 50mtr mark LONELY CHARMER (E. Hooper) was tightened for room and shifted inwards as a result of ROAD TO DARWIN (S. Quick) shifting in. Further to the inside of LONELY CHARMER, TURF BLAZER (N. Coyne) was placed in restricted room.
Stewards conducted an inquiry into the incident and charged and found Jockey Shayla Quick guilty under the terms of AR137(a) for careless riding in that she allowed her mount ROAD TO DARWIN to shift under hard riding when insufficiently clear of
LONELY CHARMER (E. Hooper), causing that horse to shift in and tighten
TURF BLAZER (N. Coyne) who was racing on the inside of LONELY CHARMER.
Subsequently Jockey S. Quick’s license to ride in races was suspended from midnight Thursday 3rd July 2003 up to and including Saturday the 12th July 2003 which covers a period of 2 CRA race meetings.

RACE 4: OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES (12 STARTERS)
As the start was effected DEMON JACK (M. Evans) jumped inwards and bumped WILKE’S JOY (J. Dagan). STEFAMA (C. Bryen) and VOLCANIC SPARKLE (G. Booth) were both slow into stride.

RACE 5: CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300 METRES (12 STARTERS)
Due to a broken steering arm on the starting barriers and been unable to move the barriers from the 1200mtr, Stewards order the last race be reduced from 1300mtr to 1200mtr and gave all trainers the option to scratch their horses. All trainers agreed to start their horses from the 1200mtr mark.
On jumping POKER (J. Dagan) dwelt and as consequence was slow into stride.
Approaching the 50mtr mark MICHAEL’S CUE BID (J. Baker) shifted out and bumped MISTRESS DANE (N. Nelson).
