ADJOURNED INQUIRY

Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into Jockey M. Dale being overweight as the rider of
GO RADAR in Race 4 and as to the reason Jockey M. Dale left the course without Stewards permission.

RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES (12 STARTERS)
Stewards allowed Apprentice C. Bryen to ride SARRY KAN at 2kg overweight as no other rider was available.
As the start was effected GRAND FAVOUR (J. Stephens) jumped inwards and bumped COVER MY TRACKS ( G. Bell ).
HYMOA (R. Hall) was slow into stride.
Shortly after the start GRAND FAVOUR (J. Stephens) lost ground when tightened for room between COVER MY TRACKS (G. Bell) and STARTACUS (R. Barone) which shifted in.
Approaching the 450 metre COVER MY TRACKS (G. Bell) dipped slightly as a result of having to check off the heels of WOKE UP BROKE (S. Quick), which was racing very greenly. BRAWNY JACK (W. Bell), which was racing behind COVER MY TRACKS, was pushed outwards onto MAJOR MICK (G. Booth), which was inconvenienced.
Rounding the home turn BRAWNY JACK (W. Bell) and ISLAND MISSIONARY (M. Evans) both raced extremely wide.

RACE 2: QTIS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 METRES (12 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted M. Evans to be the replacement rider for REGAL DOWNS as Apprentice C. Bryen was unable to make the weight.
On jumping REGAL DOWNS (M. Evans) was tightened for room as a result of
CASH ‘N’ CARRY (D. Whitmore) jumping in and OUR GIRL ANNIE (S. Quick) jumping outwards.
MR CHIPS (G. Bell) was slow into stride.
Approaching the finishing line MR CHIPS (G. Bell) shifted out under hard riding taking the running of REGAL DOWNS (M. Evans) forcing it to check off the heels of MR CHIPS.
Stewards issued Jockey G. Bell with a severe reprimand under terms AR137(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear to do so.

RACE 3: CLASS B HANDICAP 1300 METRES (13 STARTERS)
Stewards allowed Apprentice C. Bryen to ride TURF BLAZER at 2kg overweight as no other rider was available.
COCKY AFFAIR (S. Quick) performed poorly in the race and finished tailed off.
Stewards questioned Jockey S. Quick about the poor performance and she stated that the horse performed badly and there was no sign of soreness and recommended the horse be spelled.
A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities with COCKY AFFAIR.
Stewards advised trainer S. Godfrey that COCKY AFFAIR was banned from racing under the terms of LR36(b) and would have to pass a 1000 metre barrier trial to Stewards satisfaction before being able to be nominated again to race.

RACE 4: OPEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted G. Booth to be the replacement rider of GO RADAR as Jockey M. Dale was unable to make the weight.
KEEP COMING (C. Bryen) was a scratched at 3:30pm at the barriers by Stewards acting on Veterinary advice after lashing out repeatably in the barriers. Prior to correct weight being declared Stewards ordered all monies invested on KEEP COMING to be refunded and deductions ordered of 42 cents face value of all win bets and 24 cents face value of all place bets be declared.
As the start was effected THE FALCON (T. Mathieson) jumped outwards and came into contact with AWESOME LAD (R. Barone).
On returning to scale THE FALCON (T. Mathieson) who was second past the post lodged a protest against the first past the post KALINGA HERO (S. Quick) for alleged interference at the 500 metres mark. After taking submissions from both riders and viewing patrol footage Stewards dismissed the objection as they felt the margin was to great to reverse the placings. The placings stood as the judge had semaphored - KALINGA HERO 1st,
THE FALCON 2nd, KAPITZA 3rd and AWESOME LAD 4th.
At a subsequent inquiry Jockey S. Quick was issued with a reprimand under the terms of
AR137(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear to do so.
Stewards advised trainer C. Smith that KEEP COMING was barred from racing under the terms LR36(b) and would be required to pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.

RACE 5: CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1300 METRES (7 STARTERS)
On jumping PRIDE OF CASS (W. Bell) threw it’s head in the air and was slow away.
VISIBLE STAR (G. Bell) was slowly away.
